I know this will sound weird but I have had Magnums for the last 4 years and I actually find them incredible in the bumps and trees as well as being fantastic carvers. They are just so quick and responsive edge to edge.
t\They want to hold onto the turn so you just have to actively release, no smearing... I frikkin LOVE these skis! I got my head Kore 93 for after lunch skiing :)
Hi Bob, Thanks for the review! I'm seriously doubting between the e-originals and the e-magnums. I tested the originals a while back and loved the flow I got into carving turn after turn. However, as soon as the snow started to get a little bit less compact I noticed a decline in the enjoyment. I feel like the Magnums should be a bit better equipped to deal with "Less than ideal" snow due to their slightly wider base. Do you feel the same way? And do you think I could still find that sweet spot carving wise with these magnums as well?
I totally hear what you're saying. With skis as specific and narrow as the Original, it doesn't take much to make the snow too soft. Magnum steps it up a notch in terms of width and balance without sacrificing the nice short turn capacity of the Original. The Rally takes it up one more further at 78 mm underfoot while keeping that mid-radius flow firmly intact. Magnum is a nice middle ground though for sure.
I own an older version of the Magnum's. They aren't happy with anything more than say 3" of fluff on top. Depending on where you live you may just want to go originals. If it's predominantly hardpack conditions where you live get the ones you know you like. If you live in a higher snow area they are better wide carvers than anything in the Supershape line. See Skiessentials recent video on wide carvers.
Hi Bob, thanks for this. I also note that the new model comes with a new "Better Balance"-plate, replacing the "Superflex"-plate. Did you feel any difference from this new plate when testing?
Not really, probably for two reasons. 1. They also added Crossforce Carbon laminate to the underfoot zone, changing and stiffening the build of the ski. 2. With no real opportunity to A/B test last year's vs. this years, plus the carbon, it was very difficult to tell any difference. That said, the Supershape skis certainly felt very very solid underfoot and incredibly confident--more like race skis this year than ever before.
@@SkiEssentialsthanks for your video and help. i hesitate between the 23/24 model or and the 24/25 model. i want to buy it as a gift for my father. a 68 year old expert skier. he skied 'old school style with his boots almost touching each other all the time. any tips which one to choose? there is a 150 euro difference. Many thanks!
@@SkiEssentials Update: bought the 24/25 eMagnum with the Protector binding. Fantastic ski! Using it for slalom gate practice and works great. Also very stable when starting to get choppy at the end of practice.
Super review!:-) I saw in other review it feels that radius is more about 16 in reality instead 14,3 (177 cm), what do you mean? It makes a sense for me.. I don't understand how is possible to get the same radius with the change of tip/tail width and the same underfoot..:-) How do you feel the radius the new ones vs older version?
I believe the narrowing of the tips and tails makes for the longer turn radius. The older version was a bit too responsive for the target audience. This puts the overall footprint of the Magnum closer to the Rally and the Titan in the Supershape realm. I think it works great, especially if you're not looking for a slalom arc.
@@SkiEssentials Thank you! So do you mean that radius 14,3 (177 cm) is not simply right? I like previous version and combination 72 underfoot + radius about 14m.. This was a big exception on the market.. When radius will be about 16, there is much more brands on the market..

Great feedback! Nothing wrong with enjoying a ski slightly outside of its intended zone.
They definitely are not good in bumps and trees. You must be a very good skier to make these work in those situations!

@@c6moneypit8interesting. I was actually thinking of picking up a pair of Head Kore 93s for west coast trips.

@@mart11 The new one, unfortunately for your bank account, is going to be a better fit for a classic style as the tips are narrower in the new skis.
