In a report broadcast by Myanmar’s state media on February 11, 2024, the ruling junta said it would enforce mandatory military service for all men aged 18-35 and women aged 18-27 to serve for at least two years. Specialists, such as doctors, are required to serve for at least three years. The move comes as the Tatmadaw faces its biggest challenge to its rule yet, suffering heavy losses while battling a coordinated attack between several ethnic armed groups allied with pro-democracy fighters.

@@Ramxie35 They actually wanted this policy from the very beginning but they couldn't because it will be like a free military training for the rebels. Now they habe to do it at all cost cause they don't have much personnel left.
He just spent 150 political power to change to "Service by Requirement" just to get the 10% recruitable population without realizing it increases training time by 20%. Average HOI4 player here lol.

@@tafrihulislam9753 As a Myanmar citizen, I consider Rohingyas as my fellow brothers and sisters . It’s the military that is brainwashing people and trying to separate Rohingyas from the other ethnic groups.
Those new conscripts who still support the democratic government could easily switch sides and join the rebels with their weapons... Mandatory conscription is only applicable to countries whose citizens share the same ideological views as the government they elected to power or believe in. This is a historical replay of the Afghanistan and South Vietnam national armies, it's destined to backfire.
A Junta is a military dictatorship. Literally the opposite of a democratically elected government.
South Vietnam was never a legitimate nation anyways.

It's not military service. They are activating a militia decree. Recruits will be given rushed basic training and to the front. Basically cheap slaves and cannon fodder.

Once the soldiers abandon the military the Junta’s days will be numbered.
Soldiers will only obey officers, unless the officers defect and then they will end, just look everywhere as long as the officers are still loyal to their bosses, not democracy.Then dictators will remain in power.

I think this shows how desperate the Myanmar government is, so in this case rather than being forced to serve, this would be the best time to run away or join the rebel forces..
yeah alot of young kids who on the fence are now no longer on the fence and any soldier that they did get will not be performing well and will do the utmost minimum some of them would even surrender there weapons and supply to the rebels or frag there commanders given the opertunity.
I guess many of these forced recruits will give up without fighting or even change sides.

Sadly we can’t. We have to join military forces for 2 years and then leave or if we want to go to school in another country it’s the same.
Brother, it isn't as what you think, they may say you can leave teh country after serving for 2 years but it is, for now, emergency state so we will have to join for 5 years. But you know that junta is cruel some people were forced to join the military many years ago, they had to serve for like 30 years without even a contact to their family. I think the same scenario will happen but hopefully the revolution is at a turning point so we are gonna win pretty soon.
They may enforce Military mandate on young people but the cracked within Myanmar is already happening as more young man and woman are not happy with the junta.

This is going to backfire. If I were a young Burmese and the call for conscription came up, I'd go join the rebels considering if I was going to be forced to fight anyway, might as well fight for the better side.

In this manner the junta will going to destabilized itself. You are only giving more arms to citizens that would be pointing at them and would also causes division inside. This sounds like a desperate move.
Junta army probably gonna give them only 1 magazine and force to storm the front line along other conscript, to see if they being coward or try to pull fast one on the army. Either way, it's just bad move to be honest. Asking people who are not into military, serving the army, told to fight, leaving family and home behind. It's just bad.
After the training, it will have backlash from the young ones.
