My parents took us to California on Route 66 in a 1951 Hudson with a canvas water bag hanging on the front end for the hot states. Still have some pictures but remember stopping in many small towns along the way and looking for motels with swimming poos. A great time to remember, but due to the many small towns, it took a long time to get to there.
One of my all-time favorite cars! Fitting, since I even lived in Radiator Springs for 3 years...before the movie, and the entire town going "Cars crazy"! About those canvas water bags...remember; Saturate Before Using!
Berma-Shave signs....The Rabbit emblem with the remaining miles till you reached the desert oasis tourist trap....& yes, a swimming pool at the motel was essential
This was so cool!! I loved learning about the hippie guy!! There's a house up the street from me that has a couple of those VW vans in their driveway and I have no doubt that Bob would be so proud to the point that he'd want to visit with them and want to talk with them for hours about traveling in his. Holy smokes, I swear this series is one of my favorite so far. I can't wait for the next video!! I'm literally on the edge of my seat for it!!

Born and raised in Chicago, proper. Back in the late 50's, early 60's we traveled Rt 66 to visit my mothers aunt in Kankakee. The "good ol' Days". Mover to Michigan in summer of '66.
Once again you prove we must have the same upbringing. I completely agree with your assessment of coleslaw! I'll be in Pontiac next year for a car event. I'll definitely be stopping by the museum.
In 1964 my Step-Father, who was in the Air Force, received orders to Japan. We left from Prince George’s County, Maryland and picked up Route 66 in Missouri, I think, and took it all the way to California! We were in a 1963 Chevrolet Station wagon, with no air condition, of course! What a trip and quite the adventure for a 15 year old!!! Going across the South and the western desert, with all windows down was very uncomfortable, as I remember. Looking back to that time and knowing I got to travel Route 66 when it was great, is a solid memory. I have seen it since but it wasn’t the same. I hope you have a great trip!
Absolutely love this series!! Always been fascinated by Route 66, primarily because of all the small towns with personality and charm and cool things to see. Im from small town off Route 66 and now live in Chicago and have been dreaming to do this trip
As someone that was born in, grew up in, and currently living in Oklahoma, I'm excited for this series. We still have sections of the original Route 66 that's still used to this day. Mainly the parts that are in several of our rural towns.
Wowww, I've accomplished one of my dream journeys: Normandy, but that one: route 66 is, I would say, almost impossible!!! Enjoy your ride and we'll enjoy it through your eyes!! 🎉 You are a heck of a storyteller!!! Thank you for sharing your experiences!!! 👍👍
This is sure to be a fantastic series that will hopefully give many small businesses along the route a much needed boost. Hope to see plenty more classic cars and history as you go on your way. Thanks for doing this for us here in the rainy UK!
Hi JD really looking forward to your take on this journey on Route 66 after watchng Jacob the Carpetbagger and Adam the Woo's trip a few years back now. Really liking the humour you throw into a more light hearted subject video. Having had the privilige a few times to stand in the American Cemetary on the cliffs above Omaha Beach, I cannot help but think about how many of those heroes came from some of the towns you will be traversing on this trip. Just goes to prove how history is never far from our daily lives and travels. Safe travels to you from the UK.
I remember Route 66 running through Amarillo, Texas, in 1955. There were hundreds of Tourist Courts and Motels each ablaze with fantastic Neon Lights ect. Long before Vegas, Amarillo's light show was something to see.
Greetings from southwest Washington state! I'm looking forward to your adventures along the Mother Road. I hope you have your family to share it with. I think it is your channel that is first got hooked on to when you went through Colorado, if memory serves me right. Keep pressing on....🙋♂️❤️☝️🏍💨
To preface my comment, I need to explain that I am HIGHLY influenced by seeing or smellling food. Sooo It's 10pm when I'm watching this while doing some computer work. Already had supper and a healthy low carb dessert and sipping on a low cal probiotic healthy soda and was so proud that I'm not hungry. Then I glance over when you said they had an extensive menu at the chicken place, and I see 'Chicken Pot Pie' GLARING at me..... you've GOT to be KIDDING me.... now I can't stop thinking about having chicken pot pie......!! Guess what I'll probably fix for supper tomorrow night?? 😂😂 (thank GOODNESS I have all the ingredients to make it, too!)
I've always wanted to learn more about Route 66 and see it. I can tell this series will be a great way to do that. Thank you very much for sharing this trip! 👍🙂
Man this sure is going to be an awesome series! I've always dreamed of one day doing a trip like this, driving accross the expanse of the American West. This part of American Culture and history has always fascinated me, and i'm looking forward to you sharing it with us!
I'm a native Chicagoan, living in Atlanta the last 35 years, I grew up in the western suburbs of Chicago and our family often went to Dell Rhea's on Sunday's after church. My wife and I often go to Dell Rhea's when we're back home visiting, they definitely have some great food!
My wife and I drove 66 start to finish in 2023. You'll have a blast. True living americana. Make sure you stop long enough to talk to everyone. You'll make lifelong friends. And you'll still likely meet some of the real people that inspired the characters of Cars. Favorite stop- Gay Parita in Missouri. Talk to George!

I first found you on a similar journey to out-of-the-way historical (and "road trip" tourist sites!) places all across the mid-west. I was a cook for most of my time along the road, and you are absolutely going to get some really good food along the way...almost sorry I'll miss you on your way through, it'd be a pleasure to whip something up for you! Maybe you should modify the food rule to include only places with parking lots! LOL! $35/half-hour to park!!!??? The thing I loved most about my time in Rt. 66 was meeting folks from all over the world...Germans were the most numerous...and LOTS of fun to drink beer with!
This was fun! Can't wait to see more of it. Growing up you heard a lot about Rt 66 but really never heard why it was so famous. Now I know!! Thank you.
