Hello DanAnna. Greeting to both of you. At the Siti Khatijah market all the restaurants were situated at the top floor. You must climb upstair to the top floor to dine or eat at the restaurant. You must ask the people that were selling dried food and clothing to show you the way to the restaurant. Usually they all were very friendly and would assist you to find the way. By the way, the restaurant that you had food there name is “ Kak Lah” and the fish soup is called “pindang Ikan tongkol” or “singgang ikan aye” . Normally people don’t eat the “asam Keping” it is used for its souring flavour taste. That’s why they were laughing when you ate a piece of “asam keping”. Singgang is healthy water based spiced dish with many local veggies and is good for health with oily fish that is full of Omega 3 like tongkol (tuna) or tenggiri (mackerel). But I hate it😅. The clams or lala, if its closed don't eat them, cos they mave have sea mud like what you found. Usually, if the clams are cooked well, they open up. I'm from Singapore, and last time I went to Pasar Siti Khadijah, I was 11 or 12 years old, more than 30years ago. Might be time for me to go up to Kelantan again.😊
Anna ate assam keping which is not eaten. It comes from a tree. The fruit is sliced and dried before it is used. It is added to give the dish a bit of sourness. The internal organ Dan ate is the chicken gizzard.
General rule of thumb when eating clams of any kind is not to eat those with unopened shells after cooking as they are “bad”. The asam keping (tamarind slices), the woman was alarmed because normally people don’t eat as they could be too sour (masam).
