Epic Boondocking Campsite On a Cliff | Badlands National Park

- We were eager to get west of the Mississippi River, so we drove for 14 hours straight from Milwaukee to the Badlands. We found an epic free camping spot overlooking a cliff right outside the Pinnacles entrance to Badlands National Park. We had bighorn sheep and coyotes roaming right outside our front door.
The wind was intense there and kept us up both nights as it felt like the trailer was going to roll right over a cliff. so this is your warning! We moved on after two nights but it was definitely one of the coolest places we've camped on this trip.

Take 207 exit heading south from Wall, SD. There are a couple entrances - enter through one of the gates on the left just before Pinnacles entrance. Make sure to close gate behind you as there are cattle roaming.

It was in Wasta, SD right off the i-90!
It is a 24 Express Gas station, it is no longer a Mobil Station.
Staying there tonight. Lots of campers here. Got to be a popular spot.

I was out in that area about 10 years ago on my motorcycle but I did not take the roads you did. This time, I will be out there in my RV and my little toad will take me in that whole area. Thanks for sharing!

Looks like you found the same location as Hebard's Travels! I have marked that gps coordinates down for the next time we are out in SD. Wall Drugs is a tourist trap per say, but we enjoyed the novelties and of course the ice cream!
Haha yes definitely a tourist trap but a fun one :-) And hope you get to check that spot out sometime. Its WINDY there but its so so cool. I'll have to check out the Hebard's channel!
I didn't just ohh ahh when I saw the GC, I hiked to the bottom. GC is my favorite Nat park....but I haven't done the Badlands/Black Hills yet. I am going in June. Loved your video

Ya, all sounds great. You give us great tours but not the info, names of cg, etc that I would like to stay at... at least the good places, haha. Grateful another asked for the name of the $5 place and I was able to jot it down in my Tour of the U.S. State by State notebook. Safe travels. Mo in NJ
Keeping notes like that is a great idea. I think we didn't mention name because it didn't really have a name. Just remember Wasta, SD! It was a great spot - wish there were more places like that along the interstates.

Lived in Wall in 2004 thru 2006. What you drove was our typical "Sunday drive". Miss that place. Oh... and if you need anything let me know...
As for the cattle ... very unusual to be aggressive. But what they will do is scratch themselves on your rig and dent the heck out of it :)
I'm heading out to SD this summer. Would love to camp in the same location.
What do you do with your RV while sightseeing? Can you leave it at this location all day long while you're out and about? That's the only thing I'm nervous about....that and the severe weather that rolls through.

Question... On this boondocking spot do you think it is possible for this area to fill up since more and more people know about it..... We are planning our trip next year and I was counting on staying here atleast one night. Thank you for your input
I was there two weeks ago and there were a lot of people, but still plenty of room for everyone. It's beautiful, go for n it!

What was the name of that campground for $5? That would be the perfect place to stop and get ready to boondocks on the ride.
I don't think it really had a name but its in Wasta right off i-90 behind the Mobil gas station.
