I am involved in the nest count over the Spring and it is fascinating looking and listening out for woodcock. The woodcock tracker is a great bit of kit. Showing a Yorkshire bird that has never flown more than 5km from her nest, sharing her range with a migrant that flies 3,500km to enjoy the pleasures of a Yorkshire winter. They're great little birds, make fantastic sport over dogs and taste delicious...
The only meat that I have tried that I'd not voluntarily eat again, and I have eaten quite a few different meats. I'd love to hear the courtship flight. I assume that snipe taste similar.

Why not just put a birds per day limit until numbers become sustainable..? What we do in my part of the world and has worked fine...

I enjoy the taste of woodcock. Snipe are sort of similar but somewhat less "meaty" in flavour.

If you actually listened to the podcast you will see that it actually states shooting is not affecting woodcock numbers.
