quick tip!! always put a paper towel/towel of water near you when doing anything involving onions! I don't know the science behind it, but it helps 100%. You should really try it out.
(The paper towel absorbs the juices of the onions while you chop, which is why that helps, since the juices are the parts that make you cry :D)

Tips about onions- if they're cold they barely have an effect on your eyes. When you cut the onion in half and peel it, rinse in water before dicing (washes some of the juices off.
Either that or just buy vidalia onions- they don't hurt near as much
