I feel like us small businesses are held to unreasonable expectations sometimes. I think you have every right to share as much or as little as you are comfortable with. You are already more then generous with helpful information. 💖
People that aren't motivated enough to research their own materials and manufacturers aren't going to make it as small business owners tbh. I can't even count the amount of times I've had a manufacturer change on me or sell out and I've had to research something new. By just blindly copying what others do you don't build any skills to be able to deal with this when it inevitably happens to you. Not to mention that something that works for one person might not work for you. Your printer might behave differently, your work environment (humidity, etc.) might impact it differently, and in the case of a manufacturer a different rep can make a huge difference. I'm proud of you for standing up for yourself regarding this too. I see artists get pushed over by guilt because of people claiming this is "gatekeeping" when it's not. Anyone could find these products if they tried (how do they think you found them). ❤
Not to be rude, I do understand your opinion BUT some people just dont have the budget to try around a lot of materials when starting their own small shop - so it is very helpfull to them to get something they know will work and even if it is a little more pricey! (I dont even wanna know how much money I spend on trying around with different sticker-papers, its a lot, since u mostly cant just buy 5 sheets for a couple euros..most things start at like 10 and gives you at least 15 sheets which you have no use for anymore if they arent working so it is basically money thrown away! :c)
@Moongirl_Sally when I started I used the only paper available to me from my local OfficeWorks. You don't need a big budget to start and you don't need the "best" materials either.
this!!! 🙌🏻 I can totally relate to the printer behaviour - I finally found a great paper-stock I used to use for my wall art prints that I loved but my printer just absolutely hated it, resulting in more testing to find the same quality in a paper that my printer would take, too! So much trial and error involved to find the perfect materials for your individual needs and wants, it's not one shoe fits all. Thank you for sharing your view on this! 😊💖
Your response was completely appropriate and you don't owe anyone, anything. Like you said you have to protect your business and I thought the comparison with the chef was spot on! Keep up the good work!
You are absolutely valid to not share every single supply that you use for your products. I feel like some people online forget that, at the end of the day, creators are not required to give you information. Most of the time we are more than happy to help, as I have done many times for my friends and others that have asked me about getting started in an art business, but we are also allowed to protect our own businesses as well! Personally, I'm more than happy to tell people the sticker paper I use, since it is widely available (if a bit expensive), however I do not tell people the exact lamination I use since it took a lot of trial and error to find the exact type of matte finish I was looking for and the particular brand is smaller and doesn't always have much stock. That being said, I will absolutely point out similar items for that person to basically figure out what works for them, as you said. I feel like so many people don't understand that particular part of owning a creative business tbh.
I completely agree about keeping some secrets of your business to yourself. I'm getting ready to do a TH-cam channel for my products. I don't plan on mentioning specifically where I get my materials. I understand giving people tips to start a business but every business needs their own secrets. Your new products are so cute. ❤
I love watching people’s small business shop/collection launches, it’s always exciting to watch the reactions 😊 Well done for the launch and love the tracker! 😍
Thank you so much for addressing this! This is a really tough topic to talk about and as a small business owner, I run into this often. You addressed this with so much class and I just wanted to let you know that! I’ve always admired how much you share and help out other small business owners and it is so unrealistic for people to share every unique and wonderful 💗
Hi Milly! Always stick to your guns and never let others make you feel bad for wanting to keep your own comfort. You do not owe anyone on the internet anything. Thank you for your videos and studio vlogs 😊
You should not feel bad about not wanting to tell all your business supplies or secrets. You are absolutely right about you working hard to find your supplies, and it's up to us to find our own. It's what makes each business unique. KFC don't spill their recipes for their chicken recipes, and you should have to either. Thank you for showing us what you do show and wishing u the very best
I was one of the people who asked about sharing your materials. I respected your answer and given the description you gave of what you do use, I went on my own and tried to find simular products.
I think your reponse about sharing your suppliers is VERY fair. You DO NOT have to share everything. A big partnof being your OWN business figuring some stuff out yourself. ❤❤❤
I am proud of you and stand by your decision not to share your materials for your stickers!! You owe nothing to anybody!! You did the work and spent the time and money to find the perfect combo! People need to realize small businesses to not share all their secrets and owe the public nothing! Keep going girl! :)
Congratulations on such a great launch, and congratulations on redesigning your website! I know how much time and work goes into that, and your new website feels fabulous. I also want to give you major credit for keeping parts of your business private. I also make stickers - I get them professionally printed and cut - and I do not give out my manufacturers to anyone. I spent so much time and money researching and ordering samples to find the perfect sticker quality for my business, and I have the right to keep that information private after so much work. Don't let anyone tell you otherwise!
ahh wow thank you so so much!! I'm so pleased you like the website :) exactly! It just doesn't feel right sharing the information/materials etc that you've spent years perfecting for someone else to just get it handed to them on a plate! Xxx
I completely agree Milly about not sharing everything. Part of the process of starting your business is trial and error and finding what works for you, of course the odd recommendation is great but people shouldn't expect to get everything handed to them on a plate - new website looks great x
Ahh Kerry thank you so much for watching and commenting, I’m so pleased you think the same!! 💕 Exactly, any recommendations are great but shouldn’t be expected all the time - love that way of putting it 😊 thank you!!! Xxx
Hi Milly, Spill the Tea!!!! No ~ you are open, informative and give such a lot to your subscribers, including me💗. I don’t think many of us really expect you to share all manufacturers of your products and supplies, you may as well run our business’s for us then - however Katnip has broached this topic before about her reasons for not disclosing all hers as like you she’d never get any stock!! Thanks for all you do 💗
I completely agree with your reasoning Milly. It takes alot of time and effort to source certain products. I’ve been going to trade shows for at least a decade, looking to find suppliers for products. Seeing what the change in trends are, reconnecting with suppliers, year in year out. I had another maker at a Christmas market, ask me directly, while we were at the market, what supplier I used and I managed to politely avoid answering her question. They’re not hard for anyone to find, as I found them online, but for some things, I agree, you need to do your own leg work and experimentation for certain things x x
OoOooO yes yes yes! 👏🏻 1. Loveee a long vlog yey! 2. I am so proud of you and so happy your launch went well! Congrats angel! 💖 Also the shopify counter is one of the main reasons I want to eventually move over to shopify so I complete get the thrill of it 😂 3. THIS! (In terms of people demanding information) - I’m exactly the same, I always say you wouldn’t go to NIKE and demand their patents, designs, info etc so why do it to small businesses? Sure, ask away because you never know what you might learn but the high expectation and entitled attitude that appears to be about these days is awful! You don’t owe anyone anything like that! Well said! I can’t upload a video without getting loads of messages asking where I get x, y, z from and for my measurements 😂 💖
You are definitely not obligated to share your materials! You have a business to protect so I totally respect your decision and am grateful for the knowledge that you do share ☺️
Given me the motivation I need for my website relaunch in the next couple of weeks! I’ve been selling on Etsy only and launched my website in 2022, got only 1 order and financially chickened out 😅 but I’m ready to commit to the unpredictability 🤣 love your vlogs while I paint 🎨 ❤
oh my goshhh how exciting!! 🥰 the unpredictability is what makes it so exciting, right?! That's what I tell myself anyway 🤣 heheh so excited for you! I love watching your vlogs too - thanks so much for watching 😊💖
You have every right to safeguard where your materials are from, you have shared so many details with us and a lot of your own money goes into trialling new materials as a small business, many small businesses that have massive sales do not even share simple tips such as how they photoshop most of their designs let alone the brands they use!
Congrats on the launch!! Don’t worry about the sticker thing, Milly. I totally agree with your reasoning. I love how Otis was also excited about the shopify counter 😂
as a small business owner who just opened my own shopify store and also sell on etsy i got super excited and emotional seeing that counter tick to 1 !!!!!!!!! congratulationssssssss
TH-cam did a greta job recommending your video to me! Now I'm going to go back and binge watch videos lol. Random question (and of course you dont need to answer this) but how old are you? You're such an inspiration for us small business owners ❤
I don't know if this is already an idea of yours, but wanted to suggest it now that you have apparel. In one of your previous videos I watched you said something like "You'll never know if you don't give it a go" and it has stuck in my brain. I think this would be an awesome tshirt! I'd buy it 🥰 (I recently opened my own t-shirt making business so I was going to offer to make them for you, but I see you've already got production for your apparel 😊) I'm loving your videos and the theme of your updated website is beautiful!
You are absolutely correct. You don't have to share where you exactly got anything from what you exactly use and you don't owe anyone explanation of why not, as a creator myself we are in this business to be unique to be different and If we share what we do to an exact we will no longer have that Uniqueness about our business. I thank you for sharing the things you do share because you don't have to do that either. I love your Vlogs. I love your channel. Keep doing what you're doing.😊
A knew someone with a food business. A person asked them for the recipe for their certain food item. 😅 the thing is they took so long to come up with the perfect recipe, sell it as their livelihood. It's like India asking for Coca Cola's secret recipe to pirate it 😅
Hi Milly ~ I’m so happy that I received an e-mail yesterday reminding me I had items in my cart. Payments from the U.S. gets blocked and I had to use other means of payment. But I cannot wait to receive my items. 💜 On another note, I understand and agree with you 100% with regards to sharing some of your product info. As a former cake decorator, I had someone who wanted my recipes for their gain. This person is making good money in their business and yet wanted my recipes. It was a definite NO from me. You work hard to improve your business and it’s not fair to just give everything away.
Ahh that's amazing! Another great thing about using email marketing 😊💖 Thank you so much, I'm so pleased you agree too and sorry you had to go through that! X
Congrats on the big sale. Imso happy for you. I can't wait to get the highland cow not in the mood hoodie ❤ I would live to see a Q & A hehe about running a Art buisness in specific.

It really sucks, and I'm really trying behind the scenes to find a way around this! 🥺 Thank you so much for your lovely words - I'm so pleased you're enjoying the videos! ☺💕 Your English is amazing!!! :) xxx
I think experimenting and trying new things is just one of the stages in opening a small business. Trial and error, while to most is the worst part, can also be the most rewarding when you finally figure it out. I still don't understand why some people expect small business owners to share all their secrets. Would KFC reveal their secret? No. If you want to make your own stickers then you will just have to put in the time and sadly expense to achieve the kind of products you want. Hi Milly, congratulations on your successful launch. Your products are very cool. You are not obligated to reveal your business details. I am curious though why you didn't sell the old stickers as seconds instead of throwing them. Lovely video. Thanx
I just found you. I am a small business as well. I completely understand you not giving all the details on the materials. You don't need you excuse yourself. Those people are lazy and expect everything ready for them. I did a lot of trial and error myself too with my products. And I did lost money by doing that... I am not gonna share everything either... try for yourself as I did :))

There is a lot of information on the internet. You do not have to share specific brands of anything. if I write a recipe on now to bake a cake. Im not going to tell you the exact brands to use. You use what you prefer.
Thr fact that you have your defend yourself from some absolute muppet getting mad at you not sharing your business details. That's like them insisting you share your financial accounts with them! The only reason this person would get so annoyed is because they want to copy your product. You are under no obligation to share any of that information, shame on them!
Don’t let people gaslight you into giving all of your trade secrets away …they can spend money and the I’m researching and testing out different products just like you can ….there is a is something strange about homemade crafters that makes people entitled and feel as if someone has to do all of their research and work for them
I feel like us small businesses are held to unreasonable expectations sometimes. I think you have every right to share as much or as little as you are comfortable with. You are already more then generous with helpful information. 💖

Hi Milly, I was inspirated by your video, went to shopping to your website but I was sooo sad, that you did not shipping to Portugal, after checked etsy, and your new collection are not there. I like so much your characters, your stickers, your videos, short and long 🙂

Thr fact that you have your defend yourself from some absolute muppet getting mad at you not sharing your business details. That's like them insisting you share your financial accounts with them! The only reason this person would get so annoyed is because they want to copy your product. You are under no obligation to share any of that information, shame on them!
thank you Nicola 🥺💖 xxx
This is because some people are very disrespectful
Don’t let people gaslight you into giving all of your trade secrets away …they can spend money and the I’m researching and testing out different products just like you can ….there is a is something strange about homemade crafters that makes people entitled and feel as if someone has to do all of their research and work for them
thank you so much 🥺💖 xxx
