  • Another episode of project clean up the backyard 😍
    This hubs and I got a lot accomplished with yard clean up. We removed over 70 baby trees that have taken over our yard and a little more leaf clean up.
    Of course we put our new mini chainsaw to work to help with the cleanup! And we made a ton of progress and cleared out a lot of space ❤️
    I hope this video helps you if you have an overwhelming project that is going to takes weeks and weeks to get done. One step at time and one area at a time creates big results in the end.

    When I first met my husband, I told him I preferred being outside doing yard work than cleaning house. He asked what tools did I need. I now have zero turn John Deere mower, push line trimmer, battery operated leaf blower and chainsaw plus a John Deere Gator with the lift bed. Got a Troy Built tiller this year. Love all you’re doing!

    Great work Jodi! I used to be the same about birds, I’d watch my mother in law go crazy about her birds especially the yellow finches! Now we have a finch feeder, regular birdfeeder(2) and our hummingbird feeder 😊. Now I’m constantly watching them from my kitchen window😊my husband fills the feeders every other day! We live in the country so we see a lot of wildlife, last week I woke up one morning, looked out kitchen window before I let the dogs out( thank god) there was a fox with its head caught in our fence!! Thankfully my daughter lives 7 minutes away so my son in law came, cut the fence and freed the fox😮 love what your doing in your yard! Hard work!

    I love sitting on my porch and watching my humming birds and other birds. I have one mean humming bird that likes to run the others off even though there are 2 feeders. We have squirrels too-my husband throws out all our old bread and the crows come by and pick that up. We have a birdhouse that is frequented by several bird families. This season we've hatched out 2 sets of babies so far.

    Hi Jodi, you are doing a great job in your yard. You have some huge obstacles with your forest. A lot of great playthings for your grandkids when it gets done. I bought a teeny tiny playhouse for my 15 month old granddaughter. I read the dimensions but it did not compute in my brain. I bought a little couch and table which when I put together the house did not fit so I took down the indoor pen and put the couch and table there. Put shelving and a little chair in the house and put my vintage Fisher Price toys in….sink, stove, food and dishes. She needs a little fridge, they all look cheap but cost a lot. Of course I want it in aqua😃. I went with a small can fridge that looks retro, in aqua and half the price of the cheap looking toy fridges. Put up window boxes, kitchen curtains, wallpaper (contact paper) and window trim for the inside. Looks darn cute. I thought I spied a little house in your forest. 🙂Decluttering my porch which is like a huge junk drawer but making progress. Thank you for your encouragement in tackling big jobs bit by bit.

    You're making great progress. Just remember that it didn't all grow in a year 😁
    Regarding the prickly bushes, can you lay a tarp, open a brown bag flat, lay the branches on top, and then jellyroll style roll it up. The tarp would give add'l protection, the branches would be wrapped in the brown paper, which you could then slide into a new bag. Just a thought.

  • @jylromain6439
    @jylromain6439 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hi Jodi. Usually, a butterfly will rest with its wings up and a moth lays them flat. Of course, Mother Nature doesn't like the word 'usually.' Happy to see the birds. I was raised in NJ and we had Robins, Jays, Cardinals, all the beautiful birds. Here in the desert of Arizona, you just don't see them. Hummingbirds and Mourning Doves is about it.

    Hi Jodi 👋 more back yard. Let's go.
    Remember to count the positives before the negatives!!! Poison ivy is just a minor issue given the difference made!!! Yay!!!!😊 I see you are later into video !!!😊First take the poison ivy and treat it. Then mark it with some stakes you paint bright orange with spray paint. Then you can pull whatever you want without touching the p.ivy!
    I reuse bigger pots all the time. You should in future go up 2" in diameter of pot AND 2" in height of pot for best results. Especially for the larger plants.
    Still working in my dining room...our tv has been there for years with the DVD player. So working on the massive DVD & CDs collection. Sorting for the kids to determine if they want to keep or not. If nothing else they can be turned shiny side out and made into a mirror "wall" to magnify light in a dark space.
    TODAY...they are FINALLY starting to get ready for putting in the central air. And today I am able to put the fans in the windows...only going to get between 89*-90*f today. Tomorrow will be hotter but he thinks they might be able to finish by then. A blessing as tomorrow the humidity levels will be going up with the heat levels!!!!

    As a fellow bird lover, the winter is really the most important time to keep your feeders filled. Especially the suet cakes. There’s less food in nature for the birds to eat when it’s cold and the ground is frozen. I’m so crazy, I have a bird bath heater so the birds still get fresh water when it’s freezing outside! 😂
    I’m in Indiana, so our hummingbirds start migrating south in September. With you being further north, yours could start in August. So the next month or so, they need as much nectar as they can get. They are fascinating little birds! Now that they have found your feeder, they’ll be looking for it in the spring! 🙂

    I don't miss buying those bags in MI to bag yard debris. But while living in IL, I was pulling weeds around some hostas and tulips in a flower bed beside our house. I screamed, my kids came running. Things started leaping out of the ground. Come to find out, a mama bunny hollowed out around the plant, made a nest and had her babies. So, about 6 or 7 baby bunnies went scattering out running for their lives. We managed to catch them and rehome them. Scared the you know what out of me. Now we live in GA, so I have to watch for all kinds of venomous and stinging things. Velvet ants, yellow jackets like to burrow, good snakes, bad snakes, scorpions, big spiders. Walking into spider webs. haha Plus it is sooooo very hot and humid, it is hard to stay out long and you have to be careful being out in the middle or hottest part of the day.

    Excellent progress on your yard cleanup! 🎉 The trees in your backyard are beautiful! Are you going to keep some?

    I’m glad I don’t have to bag up yard waste. I can either put it in my burn pit or just put the waste itself by the road without bags and they pick it up.

    Have you thought about using a push mower with a grass catcher for the prickly bushes

    • @jodidunnmymessylife1847
      @jodidunnmymessylife1847  ปีที่แล้ว

      No I hadn’t. Isn’t that bad for the mower? Hubs always clears any sticks before moving so I honestly don’t know. But that should would make it easier 😊

    The changes you make little by little are just amazing! The ripple effect of the family pitching in is such a blessing too!❤❤
    I know how much you love suggestions, but here goes….
    Since you plan on doing an overhaul of the backyard and it had so many weeds for so long I will share with you a trick farmers use when prepping a new area. Lay down the black fabric. Get the expensive stuff that won’t tear. Dewitt Pro is THE BEST and its at Home Depot. Lay it down on the areas you clear and leave it for 2 full years. All of the seeds that were once there will have died and you won’t be fighting a battle every year after that trying to maintain the spaces. This works especially well in areas where there are invasive things. Like burdock, vines, etc. After 2 full years take up the fabric and you can do a happy dance and fill up the space with whatever you love and enjoy the area for years to come. Don’t use the fabric under the garden bed though and put mulch on it in a few years. When mulch breaks down and turns to dirt you are left with layers of the black fabric and any weed that spreads by rhizomes will spread twice as fast. If you want to use something under the mulch many gardeners use cardboard instead of the fabric.
    I had a 3 year battle with canadian thistle until I just couldn’t anymore and did the black Dewitt Pro for 2 seasons and let me tell you how enjoyable it is to be out in the yard this year and enjoy the plants I’m filling up the garden bed with. Although it’s hard to leave that black fabric there it’s worth it in the long run.

      Oh Michelle 2 years??? Wowzers that’s a long time. Thank you so much for sharing!! I’m new to all this yard stuff and I definitely want to control the weeds. My mom is having a tough time with thistle so I’ll share this with her ❤️

      @@jodidunnmymessylife1847 it does feel like a long time. While I was riding out the really bad areas I just focused on the good areas of the yard and other outside stuff. Invasive weeds are brutal to get rid of. Let me tell you not being able to touch that area was like going on a diet and waking into a donut shop 🤣
      You are doing such a wonderful job! I really enjoy watching you

I'm in country. I do about 2 hours worth a day last 2 days just till I get to hot and decide I've had enough for day. Unfortunately my arms are all scratched up, ugh. Should of worn long sleeves!!
