Can I please be honest and say, it feels better and more authentic when a German person reviews a German car. A bit like when an Italian reviews a Ferrari. Something translates better in the dna maybe? 😜

Nice car! I had already the Tiguan R and the concept works well!
Volkswagen cars are made so precisely that their panel gaps are so fine, minimal and accurate being this a small compact crossover.. I dont think I find this kind of precision on other car brands... well done Volkswagen 👍

Great review as always and the car seems to be quite capable as seen in the launch control start which looked like a Rallye car on loose gravel.

Inside? From what past decades. Thirty years ago? Its the same hard molded plastic from that era. Unacceptable today.

Great review! Well done! I'm between this and the cupra formentor and I must say the interior quality for the price is not the best. The engine is the newest ea888 gen 4 as in Golf R or is the previous generation?

@@autogefuehl Thanks for the reply Thomas 🙏 As far as I read the newest Golf R, has upgraded injection system and different catalytic converter. I cannot confirm official with any dealer😜. It's a little thing though, realistically no different feel

I mean, we have the Taos here which is just slightly bigger than this. You can get that. Either way, we don't get the full R versions here. We only get the Golf R. They refuse to give us the the Tiguan R, Arteon R, or any others which is total bs!

A great looking car and with performance to match. It was above my budget so went for a Puma ST which I'm really enjoying but it is a class below.
Thomas, is noise insulation comparable with Tiguan? Are the seats as comfy as AGR in Tiguan?

People don’t need to buy expensive exotics anymore these cars are quick enough and probably more fun too.
Interesting how the back wheel arc looks so low, especially if one compares it to the position of the front wheel arc. Sed for example at 2:00 into the video.
That is because the front wing has an arch line in the metal higher above which the rear doesn’t. Optically raises the front arch.

Hello from Canada Thomas. I really enjoyed the review. I recently bought a Mazda CX-30 primarily because there was no option from VW here. Do you know why VW provides the North American market with so few models? The only R we get is the Golf, the only Golfs we get are GTI or R, we only get the Tiguan "AllSpace", we do not get the Passat, Amrok, T-ROC, Polo, Taigo, Toureg etc. How can VW expect to compete in this huge market with so few models? Thanks...Jim

@@longform Agree I think it is a natural competitor for Formentor although I understand Thomas's position as the Formentor is only 5cm shorter than Tiguan whilst being longer but lower height wise than Ateca. Ateca best matches up with the Karoq rather than Tiguan.

Nothing wrong with a sporty SUV. In American we've had sporty pickup trucks for decades.
Pros:
Seats
Design
Chassis
300 hp
Cons:
Cheap high gloss black
Capacitive buttons
Slider temp control
1980s shifter
Hard plastic door trim
No rear torque split
Whomever came up with those capacitive controls should be taken out and drawn and quartered. I can understand cost cutting, but these cuts are so obvious you can see them a mile away. The Koreans can't match the fun-to-drive aspect, but their interior are miles above VW which used to be a more premium brand than Kia/Hyundai.
I much prefer these sport seats to those horrible integrated headrest (one size fits all) type they include in the other R siblings. These should at least be an option. However, @6'4 with a long femur, I just wish there were more thigh support. On cross-country road trips my right leg goes numb.
Anyway, there is far to much cheap exposed molded plastics from the 1980s (especially the steering wheel cap), so the cabin is not at all a warm or inviting place to be. We Californians spend a lot of time in our cars and this one reminds me too much of steerage.
On the bright side, I love the sportiness of all the R variants, but I could never live with any of their interiors. I can see why this car isn't available in North American; it would never sell well here. Its just too depressing.

its simply wrong how you call it. Inside its much more space than in a Golf and the Polo SUV is the T-Cross. Maybe you should learn a bit more about the range of VW cars.

Not specifically talking about the R variant, but in general it baffles me why people buy these things. Barely evern bigger than a compact car, a standard non-wagon focus already is 14cm longer and has a lot more kneeroom in the back, yet the T-Rock or other similar crossovers are way more expensive. What's the point? They only looks bigger.
What's the point? Short answer, other people apart from yourself like them.
What you are really saying is that you don't like them or they don't fit your needs, so you don't see the point, however, they do meet the needs of others and plenty of other people do like them. It's like saying why do sports cars exist, they only have two seats and are more expensive than cars with four seats. Pretty boring world if everything was the same.

I'm guessing Thomas is quite tall, but even so, he absolutely towers over the T-Roc in the shot at 01:54. Seriously, why would you choose this over a Golf R? You sure aren't buying it for the increased ride height.

I hope VW are listening. I wouldn’t buy any car that doesn’t have directional alloy wheels. The alloys on this T-Roc aren’t that bad but it’s still a manufacturer cost cutting exercise that they hope nobody will notice. Unfortunately more and more manufacturers are designing non-directional alloys which look fantastic, but they are too cheap to make tools for near side and offside. My car brand options are narrowing!

I think the Peugeot 2008 is a better car, not compared to this R spec model of course, but compared to the rest of the T Roc range. Still Audi said the Q2 will cease to exist when the current model stops, so you’ll have to argue which small SUV is the most premium then.
This car is the worst nightmare of any driver, you must be sadistic to buy so much GLOSSY ! Won't even imagine in a summer sunny days what will happen to your eyes.
As nice as this car is, I can't help but be turned off by all the piano black exterior trimmings. Scummy move by VW.

Very mediocre design. It has a lot of the visual elements of the popular suv/crossovers but they´re put together in the most uninspiring way.
the t-roc (tcross as well) never made sense to me.
gauges are from Skoda? looks like it. not a fan. GPS as always too slow
