- Nintendo finally released the 2.0 update for super mario maker 2! While link from the legend of zelda may have been taking the spot light I want to focus on my boy spike and his spike balls and snowballs that were also add into super mario maker 2 in the 2.0 update! So join me as I discuss 7 tips, tricks, and ideas on how to maybe use these in your levels!

Spike was definitely my most wanted enemy addition and I’m so glad to have him.

You can use cloud blocks under the 3D spike timers to make them always loaded
You could actually make an attempt at bowling with the spike/snow ball: just throwing an idea out there 🤔
i remember i had a bowling level in SMM1 where you threw shells past obstacles to bowl down piranna plants
i didn't get enough stars to keep it up :(
it was a bit repetitive anyway
Well not really since it’s 2d so your 100% guaranteed a strike
i have a boss fight with 2 phases, it’s a monty mole tank
and you need 2 different ways to damage the boss(activate snakeblock and ground pound the weak spot)

Perhaps you could improve the Ptooie by placing a Twister over the piranha plant, making sure to have it on top of a muncher to make sure the plant doesn’t blow away. The downside of this idea, however, is that the player cannot go below it. I’ve made a level based on this concept.

6:00 I found that replacing the walls near where it would be with active dotted line blocks, and then replacing them with ground after works, at least for spines on the roof.

I discovered you can do Snowball Jumps. It only works in SMW style and in the Snow theme. If you throw the snowball upwards 2 times (the reason why is because the second time it moves slightly to the right/left depending on where u stand on), so if you throw the snowball upwards 2 times and time your spin jump just right, you can spin jump off the snowball in mid air which let's you jump 2 more blocks compared to spin jumping from it from the ground

Another Cool Use: Due to the fact that Spike Balls follow you around in the ground night theme you can make a level where you can make the spike ball a platform ( Only works in World and U because you have to spin jump on it.)
It could also work with link in SMB1 as you can down thrust on them and get a good bounce
You should try to remake Donkey Kong in the 3D world style with spike.

You could make the piranha plant a big one so the spike ball looks more like it’s coming out of the mouth, and so it’s spcentred I think you can use the centering trick with the buzzy beetle and the lava bubble

I did my best to remake world 2-castle from NSMB DS
(One of my first ideas for Super Mario maker 1)
Something I found is that if a spike ball is summoned from a block, and there is a block above and to the right of the original block, the spike ball cannot hurt any player. This is good for MP vs levels as you can create a player counter of sorts, even in 3d World.

I saw a level which used the ptooie There's a twister lifting up the spike ball but not the piranha
5:00 this reminds me of a galaxy in super Mario galaxy and u had to do the same thing just with chain chomps

Hey if you put a snow ball half way through a one way door it goes through and snowballs destroy other snowballs only if there moving
The snowballs you can use then to decorate snow levels

Do a boss fight where at the start Kramek comes on a rail in the air looking like she does that spell thing or with bowser do 2 boss fights and aftermbowser 1 is killed go through a door where it looks like the PREV. Setup with kramek on a rail and then she /he activates something and big bowser comes and kills you

Place a spike ball in the middle and steep slopes to the left and right so the ball travels back and forth.
Good video, but you didnt mention how spikeballs chase you in the night theme, i made an entire level based off of that gimmick

2:13 I made a level with this but it can only be beaten with multiplayer because you knock other players with your snowballs onto a p switch. I added a dev exit. I hope that's okay!
Here's a random idea.
So you're able to bounce off spikeballs as link, so what if you had to bounce off of the spikeballs that spike throws out to get to a higher platform?
