Mike I’ve saved and learned an immense amount thanks to your videos. Went from glorified oil changer to amateur mechanic over two years thanks to you. Cheers from Phx AZ
Good video Mike for anyone who has not done this job yet. I took my 90 tank off after removing the sill, the floor stiffener and rock slider. There was no other way to be able to wriggle the tank out. The reason I had to have it off was just to be able the take metal filler tube which was rusty and I could not get the clip off the pipe. Anyway a good excuse to paint tank, and the chassis behind the tank and fit new rubber filler tube and breather pipe and all new stainless clips and bolts. Well worth the trouble and done during the summer.
Another good video Mike, Sikoflex or Tiger seal are better than silicone though. If your ever unlucky enough to get a hole in a petrol tank, a quick fix is to soften a bar of soap and push it in the hole. My mums first husband was a GI mechanic and it worked on bullet holes just fine!
Mike, I did something very similar a number of years ago - sealed the cradle to the tank but left a hole near the top - then I pumped it full of Dinitrol - then I sealed it too. I had no drain hole on my tank cradle. I then I put fibreglass over the whole tank. Not sure if this was the right thing to do or not honestly but at the time it seemed to be a good option. I know I may have a water trap but I hope that no water can get in and the fact the void is full of Dinitrol it shouldn't be able to take on any water. Anyway, shocking design and the worst thing is that they paint after they weld the cradle on - which makes sense as welding would burn the paint, but c'mon, no paint whatsoever behind the cradle! Insane!
Hey Mike. Another good video. Please do start selling your sender tool. I'd definitely buy one. P.S. I haven't had time yet to replace my p gasket, but I can see that it is the old type. Watch this space!

I need something flexible to cope with the weight of fuel bouncing in the tankThe soap works on petrol but not diesel for some reason

Appalling design - plastic Td5 tank was much better
Mike, a label on the tank says "leak tested ok". With it being a Defender tank, does that mean it does or doesn't leak ???
LolAll Land Rovers should have this sticker as they leak!
Nice one Mike 👍🏻 Love a Yorkshire man in Canada 🇨🇦 lol 😆
Cheers!
Mike
I struggled to get the tank out and in when I changed mine. Guess I should have taken the sill off.
Yeap = real easy!
Good video!
Hi, mike, it’s normally the rubber connectors under the bonnet.
Alan
Mike, count me in for one of those sender tools!
I am looking at a redesign to make them smaller for shipping - BUT they have to be long enough to get to a 110 tank

i'd buy one too .. mind you looking again a piece of exhaust pipe of correct diameter, few cut-outs with dremmel & few holes at other end would work
They are easy to make but CNC would make them even
Does that tool work for a new rangerover classic v8 3.5 efi sender unit?
Should do they were all the same sealing ring
I'll have one of your tank tools when you get a batch made up.
I am working on a new sleeker design!
If you make them tools, I'll buy ome
I have the plan how to make one for free in my shop!
