Just to clarify for those of you that are not very tech that you should sign in as administrators and do all the above. I didnt, i followed the instructions and did everything in my own account, still hadnt worked, then i went away and when i signed in again i thought to choose the administrator sign in option. Then it went on updating something (?) by itself and hooray it now works. Besides that I would like to express my gratitude to Tim for fixing it nevertheless. Thank you Tim.

just had the same problem with my windows. The difference was my product key is injected into the motherboard (alienware laptop). Using -rearm and then the troubleshooter on windows to use the digital product key did the job. Just typing it in case someone has a similar problem

Mine didn't work for steps 1 and 2. I've got windows 10 pro. What I did was copy the generic key for windows 10 pro instead of windows 10 home and it worked instantly maybe because this was 2 years ago and things changed. But this is a great video and a lot of help. Thanks, TimscomputerRepair!

Could be because I triple boot from Grub (Win 10, Linux Mint & Android 7) but they're all on seperate partitions. Probably could be using an old corporate activation key (I have so many different OS keys, I forget which one I used sometimes.

TimsComputerRepair yeah was in admin, tried heaps of different ways with all sorts of software but still couldn't find it lol, the machine was originally win 7 home premium, I read they had a special type of product key security system back then around the win 7 era, machine has since upgraded to 10 with new ssd etc etc, it's ok, can only do so much with my office sys, upgraded my netbook from home to pro, probably going to build a new desktop when I get the extra cash :-) just need some more computers to fix lol don't have enough advertising out there lol
The cmd code I talk about here is for a Windows 10 machine that has been upgraded with the wrong key. The command brings up the original key. If you have no issue with the key then you may not get a original key to show if that makes sense.

Windows doesn't ship a product key anymore. It is digitally licensed these days. There are methods to get your key though, like shown in the video.
