    As a 1000 hour commander the best piece of advice I have for you is whenever possible, station all of your most vocal and cooperative squad leaders on the defensive cap. That way you will have a much better chance of knowing whenever an airhead or enemy supplies are dropped so you can act accordingly and also there is a much higher chance their squad will stay with them. Having squad leaders who don't communicate much on the offensive is no where near as bad as having squad leaders who don't communicate on the defensive.

      OMG so Truu. I also realized that when you relay commands like “Fall back” to squad leads. Also do it in text chat. For those members who don’t talk they sometimes looks at the chat. Gets them to check the map and fall back.

      Really still trying to figure out what possesses people to attempt to play a pretty Sim version of a WW2 game where comms is ABSOLUTELY ESSENTIAL. Kinda blows my mind to be honest. I get people just wanna vibe sometimes, but the game is so much better when the chaos is managed with great comms across the whole team.

    I do agree with everything mentioned here, GREAT "how to" but one thing I would like to highlight more that you barely hit on, Squad Leads can be the driving force for Garry placement as well. So long as you have good squad leads. I do wish HLL would put a cap requirement on players being able to be SQLD or Commander, or put tutorials in that are required prior to being able to do these things. Too many teams of good players get let down by poor leadership. And as someone that is a good player, I don't ALWAYS want to be a SQLD or commander.

    • @dollazNzentz
      @dollazNzentz 2 ปีที่แล้ว +15

      Same. I’ll end up being SL because most time I can’t rely on other squads to place garrisons all the time. When running command it’s like pulling teeth sometimes to get a SL to place a garrison for me. Also don’t understand why engineers aren’t building nodes. It’s the simplest thing and you get hella points at the end for it.

    Lvl 115 and still haven’t tried commander. I’m pretty good at squad lead and comfortable with what needs doing. Mostly find myself having to take the roll cause no one else will. I get a buzz though when I have a good squad and find other players thrive on encouragement and praise. I always give instructions and look for alternative options from the squad if somethings not working. Communication is vital for a cohesive squad if the commander issues instructions I always relay them to my squad even if it’s not directed at us, I find once everyone is clued in it makes for a much better experience.

    • @wileecoyoteee9416
      @wileecoyoteee9416 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      You can't build them without supplies though, so as a SL I build my outpost and then am basically just like 🤷🏻‍♂️ with no supplies around anywhere to build one. I basically have to ask the commander to drop me supplies. You can mention it to your squad, but I've yet to have anyone play support and throw some down for me lol.
      As a support, I drop them down in a good spot for a garrison, hoping a different squad's support will match mine, so that a squad leader somewhere can make one, but that just.. seemingly never happens lol.

    • @singleproppilot
      @singleproppilot 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@wileecoyoteee9416 That’s true, but I’ve seen squad leaders walk right by supplies on the ground and NOT build a garrison. They must not know how. When I play as Support, I’ll actually remind my squad leader that my supply box is ready to drop and ask them where. Some of them can’t even answer that simple question. When that happens, I’ll either drop them where I think they would be needed, or join a different squad with a better Officer. The level of basic competence in this game is terribly low, and I think it’s because of the lack of tutorials or instruction for new players.

    • @wileecoyoteee9416
      @wileecoyoteee9416 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@singleproppilot Yeah that seems to happen sometimes too. I often let them know where I dropped it, and I try to drop it 200m away from other garrisons (1 map square is 200x200m to anyone reading who wasn't aware), so a new one can be built, unless I think we could use a barricade or something for an engineer to build.
      I've only been playing for 2 days, but it's crazy how many games will only have 2 garrisons built, when you can have 8!

    • @gordon9821
      @gordon9821 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I just left a frustrating match and came to watch this video instead. None of the squad leaders would put down any garrisons even though support players were dropping supplies. They just kept running forward endlessly because it seemed like we were winning caps. Then we all died and were stuck back at HQ. We didn't have a commander to help us build garrisons either.
      I really hope in a future update there's a super specialized loadout for support that allows it to build garrisons or something.

A perfect example is the road east of town center on Carentan. It's easy to get upwards of 10 kills using this method and it can turn around the start of a match

    Just had my first game as commander at lvl 80 and won against a lvl 200 commander who I know is good at it. Obviously I didn't know it was him until the end. Both teams were stacked evenly too.
    Best thing to do when starting out is tell the command chat straight away you're new and that you'll listen to them. The higher level SLs will be patient with you and appreciate that as well - which helps heaps with any frustration than can happen when playing with an inexperienced commander.
    Basically this game is about having good communication skills. If you have that you're set in any role.

I liked the feed back my squads were giving me so I started being the lead most of the time. Got to play as spotter and recon once. Tank twice. And then tonight I was pushed into commander role for the first time never watching any videos like this. I lost the game but my SL’s didn’t fault me. The enemy team had us horribly and I stepped into commander after ours quit. I did pretty good and my SL’s taught me how to do it. Then the next game the same thing happened. We lost again but we still fought HARD and I’m so glad I got to get that experience in and get to commander level 2 after 5 days of playing. Another golden tip for anyone in a Commander or Squad Lead position is: keep communicating and giving orders or even tactical information at all times. Sometimes people will not talk back for any given reason (e.g. mic broke or family matters) but they will respond and listen. Of course if you notice that’s not the case, kick them from the squad or join another squad/game.

      Keeping your communication concise and to the point makes sure the important messages get through.

So i would propose perhaps without a minimum of a level 50 (maybe 75) in the server on your team until someone with an appropriate rank takes over. But i think thatd be cool. Was also thinking itd be cool if commander could promote 1-2 squads for some sort of buff. And maybe getting promoted as a squad might earn a motor role or marksman (with like springfield without scope or gewer or stg44 with one, for the russians you just get an lmg that works lmao jp about the last one). I also like maybe if, for example, a recon sq gets promoted they get a third role that has a satchel or something like that. Or tanks would have more ammo or be a variant that isnt used yet or something. Itd make more squads want to please the commander thus bringing teamwork more into priority category by incentivizing sl’s to interact more and follow orders and his subordinates more of a reason to follow orders and stick with the group. Endless possibilities really. They have a solid game here. Hopefully it stays that way lol.
    Also great video and channel, i love it. Keep it up.

    Organize your team and come up with a game plan. Find out immediately who your good squads are because you are going to need them when shit goes south. Pay attention to combat score on all present squads. If you got a squad playing defense and they always are getting their ass kicked, they only have like 200 score collectively after a period of time then you need to swap them out. The other scores DO NOT MATTER, the offensive and defensive score just means time in the zone. The combat score represents how well they are eliminating enemy players and maintaining cap weight/out capping the enemy. It also means they are more likely to fight their way to eliminate garrisons on the opposing side.

    I’ve played many many games, and only experienced a commander use dismantle in one game. It’s a great problem to have, the real struggle is getting your guys to make garrisons.
    You can join a game that’s already on going and determine immediately if you’re on the losing side, if you see no or 1 garrison then just quit. More garrisons mean victory, like in any conflict every, map control is everything

    Garrisons on every point on the map , nodes, transport trucks , just spawn tanks no one likes sitting around 10 mins to then take another 15 mins to drive to the front , manage your 3 resources , save that bombing run for critical moments ,recon alot ,use the supply drop a ton , and just use airheads to get behind enemy strong points or tanks while defending ... And very important use reinforce when losing a point but your teams is close by trying to recap,.... Side note sometimes leadership comes don't work even when going to the scoreboard and picking it so you might get screwed and need to run around and proximity chat with squad leads to get things done

      Sometimes is quite common to get a place like that dismantled.

    A few tips from my experience:
    Commander best serves their team from the HQ, where they can focus on the map more than their surroundings, coordinate artillery and deal with squads requesting armor off the leadership chat. Plus, its good to have someone defending the HQ from enemy recon teams trying to sabotage the team.
    Let your Squad leaders coordinate the attack and give commands to each other, only jumping in when a request goes unheard. A commander should focus on delivering assets more than actually commanding their team.
    Dont take criticism too seriously. Most people have never played commander so they dont know how assets work and how much cooldown times you have to deal with. Just apologize/shit-talk back to them and deliver their request when you can, or just mute the squad leader to get your message across lol.
    Tell everyone in command chat to shut the fuck up when it gets too loud and make them give their request one at a time. You're gonna have guys try to talk over each other a lot, most of the time unknowingly. Just pay attention to their names and ask them to repeat one at a time so you can effectively deliver assets. Remind them to keep casual conversation to their squad, leadership chat is for players who actually want to win the game.
    Friendly fire should be avoided, but sometimes you gotta seize a good opportunity to use offensive assets while friendlys are in the kill zone. Best thing you can do in those situations is give your team a heads-up, location and some time to seek cover. Luckily it's just a videogame, so dont feel bad for treating your team as cannon fodder. Defending a position is more important than a few TKs, especially when it buys time for your team to reposition themselves.
    Get your team talking. Not an issue most of the time, but when your squad leaders arent requesting assets or making callouts for long periods it can cause you to lose a position. Remind your team to make those callouts and annoy you with request.

    • @monoespacial
      @monoespacial  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Dude, I disagree 100% with the HQ thing. If a commander spends most of his time at the HQ, I would consider him an absolute failure at commanding. You don't need to be looking at the map 24/7. Staying around the backline defending garrisons, driving trucks around to get some key garrisons up or driving half-tracks up to reinforce a point are the bare minimum a commander needs to be doing.

    • @s0vReign
      @s0vReign ปีที่แล้ว +1

      So your tips in a nutshell are...
      -Sit at HQ being semi useless when you could be establishing garrisons
      -As Commander, don't command- let sqld command
      -shit talk your squad leads
      -tell command chat to stfu
      -use own team as target practice.

Short, clear sentences with a purpose like explaining why we should defend and how for example: "I need either Baker or Charlie squad who are over at B2 to redeploy back and push north, we're losing that area but we can counter attack if we do it now"
      Something like this every 2-3min unless it's something alarming like an airhead.

    10sec and the Guide is bad.. The Commander have no Time to drive away. U Spawn and Open the Map and thats Only!
    Spawn Tanks, Spawn Supply Trucks and then speak thats the way. And then Drop Air Supplies for the Leader to build Garisons After that the Squad Leader give the Cammand that Pioneers build Material Points.
    And than look the long Game on the Map! Where died Guys and commicate that..
    And in Offensive Mode give the Command that all Pioneers build Bunkers etc. by the Second or third Point.. and thats from the beginning. When u Start this and u have a Full Equiped Hardpoint u must Only defend and thats easier a Lot of Games are Lost when u have nothing but a lots of Games are Victory when u build defend buildings and mines around the streets and fields around.
    All Combat Commanders are useless. All Commanders and Squad Leaders under Level 30 are useless. Play the normal Classes to Rank 3 4 and then u know how that Game works thats important for a Squad Leader and for the Commander.
    The Commander is the Brain and the Squad Leaders Hands and Legs and all others in the Squad the Muscles.. Work together communicate and Win thats they Key for Victory in HLL.
    And a important Point to start.
    1.Spawn Supply Trucks and Air Drops
    To Build Garisons and Material Points
    2.Spawn Tanks and look its a 3 Man Squad or a lonely Tanker dont Support the Last one!
    3. Dont make a Stalingrad Maneuver.. Set no Air Bridge behind the Attacking Objective!! Because then the Guys Spawn between the Enemy by the Objective and the Enemy Spawn thats the baddest thing what a Commander can make.. Set the Air Bridge over, under or in Front..
    Communicate with the Squad Leaders for a good Place for a Garrison.. and then After that set a Air Drop of their Marker.
    Say to the Squad Leaders that they build Spawn Points for their Squad to have a Back up when the Garrison falls!
    And say to the Leaders that they use the Marker System. Its important for all..
    Set Artillery Marker on the right place to stop or Destroy garrisons.

    Honestly with all of the other forms of spawning I feel like half-tracks should instead be used how they were used during the war, which is supporting infantry. As it stands now infantry cannot do anything to advance on MG's set up in good positions other than smoke and advance (Which despite what some might think is a terrible way to advance), or wait for armor. And realistically the tanks you are given in game were way too valuable to waste against a single well-placed MG; the MG comes out way more cost-effective in this case. Half-Tracks would fill that perfect middle ground of being a cheap armored means of providing infantry support while also doubling as a troop transport. I know they are adding MG's to the half-tracks but for a cost of 300 the half-track really shouldn't even be putting itself in situations where they have to use their MG.

    I'm lvl 29 and I had a match where not a single person was willing to be a commander, so as a private I decided to take up the job. All I did was sent supply drops, supply trucks, and the occasional tank. And after a few minutes quickly realized that we were going to lose because the squad leaders were not communicating and I was a shitty commander that only took up the job because no one wanted the responsibility.
