The simple fact that this song and “Ashes to Ashes” are on the same album is why I love Bowie so much

Bowie himself said that it's "a light throwaway song, much like fashion itself".
I think that's funny in itself. Nothing light or throwaway about this song, just utter brilliance.

My suggestion is that if you want to react to his song “Lazarus”, get to know him and listen to another bunch of his songs first.

You should finish the "major Tom" sequence by reacting to "Hello Spaceboy" and the finally, the very dark "Blackstar".

that song is from 1980 album Scary Monsters (and Super Creeps), and there are quite a number of sombre reflections on the part of Bowie on some problematic momemts he had around 1974-75-76, when he stayed in America and was having a diet based on green peppers, milk and an astronomical consumption of cocaine. By that time he developed a character known as the Thin White Duke, and had a fascination with occultism and nazism, stating that Britain needed to have a fascist dictatorship and that Hitler was a rock-star, but fortunately he never really meant those things seriously. He later denounced these statements as he was out of his mind because of the drug abuse; and in Scary Monsters he makes remarks against fascism like in the song It's No Game (the verse "to be insulted by these fascists is so degrading"); and Fashion according to Bowie's producer Tony Visconti was in reality an actual reference to fascism.

Hi! I really like your reactions on Bowie ^^ ! My opinion on this song is, it's not only a comment on "Fashion turns you into a sheep, making you do this and that, and the contrary the day after!". It's not just a statement of how hollow fashion can be :This song dates from 1980. Bowie had been an avant-garde and a pioneer for quite a while, at this time. I think he meant that avant-garde and marginal ideas of daunty explorers in arts tend to be swallowed, recycled and then regurgitated for the masses, but with their very substance removed. All that's left is just fake eccentricity and business (you can think of how true fans of Nirvana or Joy Division may feel when they see the covers of their favorite albums on t-shirts, bags, surfboards, etc... Same applies to true comic books fans, by the way ;-) ).
Musically, it reminds me a lot of the "death disco" from bands like PIL did around this period (if you never heard it, try "This is not a love song" or "Rise").

For Bowie, I strongly recommend Young Americans, Sweet Thing / Candidate / Sweet Thing (Reprise), and Teenage Wildlife.
If you prefer live tracks, Rock 'n' Roll With Me from the Moonage Daydream soundtrack, Rock 'n' Roll Suicide from David Live, and Wild Eyed Boy From Freecloud / All The Young Dudes from Ziggy Stardust: The Motion Picture are great choices. I would also say that Somebody Up There Likes Me from I'm Only Dancing (The Soul Tour '74) is amazing but, along with Rock 'n' Roll With Me from Moonage Daydream, it is a controversial pick with the vocals dividing many fans.

Hi Seph, Im so happy that you did another David Bowie song. Im sure this works with the others as well and you wont get blocked anymore. 🙂I would love to hear next all these live version (none of them should get blocked):
Heathen (The Rays) - Live in Berlin 2002, i don't think this would get blocked as its live!
Dead Man Walking ~ Acoustic Live 1997
Wild Is The Wind - Live Glastonbury 2000
Life on Mars (Tonight Show 1980)
Thank you so much! I Love your Bowie reactions! 😀
Trust me, every song you will hear from now on will sound totally different than the other and is a masterpiece. With a different music style, a different sounding voice, a different David Bowie. 😉

Fashion is a sort of mocking of fashion and fashions of people who do something only because other people do that of the "sheep mentality" many people have. You didn't understand much.
