Referees don't write the rules, but they choose which ones to enforce by exercising common sense. You've fined him, you've given him under an hour to go out and find a nice pair of pants, and you've made him forfeit a game. Players spend money and time (which is also money forgone) traveling to this event. Magnus has said he can come back tomorrow with better attire, but your response is sanction after sanction. Please pick your battles. It sounds more like a group of people are having a little bit of a power trip and it just reflects badly on FIDE, in a world of chess where FIDE is increasingly trying to remain relevant. (And it's not like Magnus was wearing sweats, flip flops, or shorts. He actually looked quite fashionable. Please get with the times).
Magnus knows the dress code very well, it’s nothing new. He chose not to change because he’s in bad form and didn’t mind the possibility he’d be booted out. It’s a shame because I wanted to see him on Monday in the blitz.
Yep, Magnus had found an excuse to quit after dreadful first day, same as he did at Saint Louis after losing to Niemann. Childish behavior. He could have simply complied with the rules after getting warned, but instead knowingly went for it.
@MagicSmoke11 understanding this sarcasm. I suppose you don't like what Magnus or did I misunderstand the context? Well Magnus just did not give a Flying Fck and is the best thing right now in the chess world and its for the better
Why doesn't FIDE make a uniform from clothes, pants, to shoes for the players? If given a sanction, it would be unfair, this dress code regulation really limits people's freedom of expression
I understand chess is just a game but it has some history,I just can't listen to Candy using all those tiktok terms or whatever. "Sheesh", "he's cooking" etc. Less entertainment and more GMs showing concrete lines.
Having a dress code for playing chess, how stupid is that, and then kicking out the best player ever for not relating to their dictatorship? How stupid is that?
@@badboyop007 Magnus was wearing jeans and FIDE kicked him out and forced him to pay a fine since he didn't follow their dress code. Rumours say FIDE will migrate to become a fashion organisation.
Chess is the only game which does not need to adhere to any stupid fashion codes, and disqualifying the world number one for such a stupid rule, is plain stupid.
Dress codes??? Kinds reminds me of devil wears Prada movie!!! We all support you dear Magnus, well at least who know the rules of logic, freedom diligence

@2:59:50 is when the drama starts
@3:06:30 is more drama
@3:37:05 drama continues
@4:39:25 the magnus bomb
FIDE shot themselves in the foot.
People want to watch Magnus Carlsen, not FIDE.
I understand telling him no jeans tomorrow. But demanding you change now is a bit ridiculous
Yeah that what i thought, they already fine him 200, demanding to change immediately is ridiculous
His hotel is likely 500 feet away
Magnus just decided to go on vacation instead of dealing with FIDE XD

@3:07:25 Look here, his bum is showing. I can understand now a little bit why fide has these dress regulations. It looks completely unprofessional

The biggest drama queen in all of chess Magnus Carlsen.
