Thank you for this useful video, Marty. I am about to get all oils changed. After watching your video, there are more stuff that I need to look at. Mong from Thailand
If you don’t mind me asking, how much does it cost to maintain this vehicle yearly? Like just the oil changes, trans fluid, tires, and other things to keep it running. Excluding gas though
Well, not much. I do about 4-5 oil changes a year at $50 each time, so that’s $250 when doing it myself. I drove about 20,000 miles last year and change it every 4500 miles. Trans fluid change cost me like $60 in materials doing it myself and I only ever did it once. Spark plugs cost around $60 as well. Tires I got for $300. I’d say yearly, maybe like $800 plus gas, registration and insurance.

@martymotoring Transmission Fluid Change: How many times have you changed it? What was the mileage when you did change it? I’ve heard if you do it and it’s never been done then it could cause slipping in the transmission so this is why I am inquiring.
If you do 3-4 quarts, not all of it, and only do a drain and fill and not a flush - it won’t cause issues by introducing a little fresh fluid. Replacing all 8 or so quarts is when there are issues. I did mine at 169k miles, and 147k on my ISF I had.
@@adamdistortion8810 Full synthetic is synthetic - the only other one is Synthetic blend which I don’t recommend. I only run 100% synthetic in my cars.
Awesome video! So I’m actually going to buy a 2006 IS 350 with 152k miles, drives great with no shifting problems but should I still change the transmission fluid?
Hello, I have a 08 Lexus IS250 and i'm having a issue, maybe someone had it. When i'm in Drive, if i press like hard on the acceleration and rpm goes beyond 2700, from first to second gear, the transmission shocks. Can this be a problem with the transmission? Could a oil change solve this ? Edit: Its a automatic transmission, I forgot to mention
This is a common issue with our 2IS. It’s a “downshifting” issue. The ECU had to be repaired. Not bad price. It’s only $100. You’ll have to take it out and send it in. I forgot what the place was called but just google downshifting I’m second generation IS
My tires don't last as long as they did leaving a little rubber on the road each time I watch one of your videos, I'm gonna have to do something about it
You will definitely want to get the 350 instead. I test drove a 250, and man, the acceleration and speed is definitely notable. I have been an owner of a 350 for the past month, and I am glad I waited to check out a 350 before getting the 250. This car really has some power, and for the price, it is worth it. As far as the specs, they aren’t much different, interior wise. Comfortable to drive, okay gas mileage, alright sound system. One thing that I have seen that is common with the 350’s, is the rotten egg smell that comes from the exhaust area when you accelerate too hard too quick. Overall it hasn’t been a bad experience. (Mine has 187,000 miles on it)
o Rebelo I’ve heard that too. But I recently have checked service records and it had the catalytic converter changed not too long ago. I’ve heard that it smells like that for a while. The smell has definitely reduced, it’s not as bad as before

I'll have saved enough to buy outright whichever model I decide on. Most likely I'll get the IS because it's cheaper but also more sporty to drive then the GS.its a tough choice considering the gs350 has over 100 hp more. The next vehicle I get will be my daily driver as I'm retiring my 02 honda accord coupe V6 200 hp stock car that's extremely well maintained and with only 124,000 miles on it. It's just time for an updated ride that will last me another 20 yrs.. and hopefully still look like new in 20 yrs as my honda does now. I believe from my research that either lexus I buy and maintain expertly will last for as long as I want it too especially since I now only average about 6000 miles a yr.

If you own a Lexus IS350 from 2006-2013 please post your miles you currently have? and what maintenance you made so for etc. Thank you so much in advance : )
Well, I wanted to try something different. Mobil 1 seemed to get pretty dark after only 4000 miles, and after trying Pennzoil out, the car runs smoother somehow and the oil is less burnt looking after the same mileage. We tried the Megan strut bar on my brothers ISF, and I just never put it back on. I should though!
@@MartyMotoring I've never trusted Pennzoil. My uncle did a valve train overhaul, and it leaves a yellowish residue on the valves and components that creates more friction. It's a dye that they use that leaves the residue. As for the color of the oil, it's normal, as the engine has direct injection and fuel injection, which leads to excess carbon build-up. The oil gets that dark because it's not letting the carbon leave deposits. There's a guy on youtube that stress tests oils in cold and hot applications, even going as far as boiling the oil beyond its threshold and seeing how well it performs lubrication.
I have a check system on my dashboard. (I have a IS 250) And Autozone did a diagnostic and said it's the Air sensor. I need a air sensor. Is that expensive? And how important is that?

From my knowledge, excess carbon build up is a big issue in the 4cyl IS250. The manual even states you should give it the "Italian tune-up" every now and again. It's the reasons most owners 1st mods are oil catch cans. So my advice to you is to check google. I'm sure someone else has run into the same issue your having. I dont know how the intake manifolds work on the 4 cylinders but it sounds like its gonna require you to take the intake manifold off. Once you take it off, I advise you to also replace intake gaskets.
I’m in the market for one of these but here in the uk we only get the IS250😭 would I be disappointed by a 250, or just embrace they’re slow and enjoy it?
use heavier oil. 5w30 should be fine using high mileage as high mileage is intended to lower oil burning. Still will need to top up every once in a while but not as much.
MrMusicweekly This actually doesn’t typically work in practice. Different oil brands and base oils will burn more in some engines than others. Heavier oil does not burn off less, nor does it protect better. This has been proven in case studies over millions of miles. If you car calls for 5w-30 simply switching to a more viscous oil will not in itself slow consumption. Maybe that 5w-40 has a better base oil, different additives?!. This is what affects oil consumption , not viscosity. Also high mileage oils contain more seal swelling agents, typically more detergents and dispersants, more ZDDP or whatever anti wear additive that oil blender prefers (zddp is still king). Often a high mileage oil will also have a semi synthetic base oil or carrier oil and or a group III synthetic base. So you can see, if you have oil ring wear or sticking from carbon/varnish, a high mileage oil will do very little for this. It can swell the valve stem seals, however typically those are viton which likely will not swell in the presence of a swelling agent. So if a high mileage oil is working to reduce consumption, it’s usually a byproduct of the oils base stock. Unless it’s puking oil from a main seal in the driveway.

Lexus dealership I should do it every 90,000km. Changed mine
The "10 Min Automatic Transmission Fluid Flush + Replacement (Most Cars)" video worked for me. Saved my van from having to get a new transmission.
Man I love this car the one thing from getting it its the gas, its too much since I have to drive 100plus miles a day, currently use the civic for that
Thank you for this useful video, Marty. I am about to get all oils changed. After watching your video, there are more stuff that I need to look at. Mong from Thailand
2014-2018 still 2GR-FSR motors currently own a 2018
I am thinking about trading in my 09 Acura TL for one of those.
You should. After 08, the TL looked horrible. I own an 07 TL-S and still looks sexier than the newer TLs.
That’s not bad! Thank you for replying!
Here in 2020 preparing to get a Lexus for my first car. Came from Scotty’s channel.
Same lol not my first car but my first Lexus of course... I’m planning to spend at least 10-15k, it’s going to be my third car and I’m excited 😆 I’m only 20 tho
Dimithri悟 nice👊🏽. What was your first and second car?
SimmyTM Mwakina first was a 2004 dodge stratus, I bought it for 2k$ then I got into an accident and while I was dealing with the insurance claim I bough a Honda Civic for dirt cheap 1200$.
Now I’m still saving money for a Lexus, I’m thinking something around 9-15k. I have 13k already and it’s going up
Dimithri悟 Nice moves bro. I hope you are able to get it before its price increases.
Love your videos Marty! Don't stop!
I got an ad for lexus maintenance.
Is it cheap for maimtenance or does it costs alot for maintenance looking to get a 2008 2g IS 350 .... please let me know
cost is thge same from the 2and 3IS
@martymotoring Transmission Fluid Change: How many times have you changed it? What was the mileage when you did change it?
I’ve heard if you do it and it’s never been done then it could cause slipping in the transmission so this is why I am inquiring.
If you do 3-4 quarts, not all of it, and only do a drain and fill and not a flush - it won’t cause issues by introducing a little fresh fluid. Replacing all 8 or so quarts is when there are issues. I did mine at 169k miles, and 147k on my ISF I had.
There is a 2006 lexus is350 for sale for $13k with 105k miles and the guy is the original owner, looks new is this a good deal?
Looking to get a 250 this video helps
185k no problems yet! but starting to burn oil should I replace the Pcv valve?
Never a bad idea - mine always consumed a small amount of oil. I switched to synthetic and it slowed down
@@MartyMotoring you switched from full synthetic to synthetic and it helped?
@@adamdistortion8810 Full synthetic is synthetic - the only other one is Synthetic blend which I don’t recommend.
I only run 100% synthetic in my cars.
Car looks so mint! With that offset and wheel size is there any rubbing at all?
No rubbing anywhere - I think I have the wheels spec in the video but it is 18x8.5 front and 9.5 rear, 35 offset
Anton Zuykov 225 Front and 245 Rear
@@MartyMotoring ok cool thanks!! Keep up the great content
180,000 miles! I bought my 2007 few months ago with 60,000 miles
I drive too much 😂
What are some things to check out when buying used 350s that have over 130,000 miles?
Awesome video! So I’m actually going to buy a 2006 IS 350 with 152k miles, drives great with no shifting problems but should I still change the transmission fluid?
Did you buy it and how has it been for you?
What exhaust setup will you recommend??? I don’t want it too loud … just want it a little deep, bold and sexy
I forgot what the place was called but just google downshifting I’m second generation IS
My tires don't last as long as they did leaving a little rubber on the road each time I watch one of your videos, I'm gonna have to do something about it
Would you recommend all of this for the 250?
Diego Camargo I was thinking the same thing for my 250, feel like most of that stuff is pretty much the same though
(Mine has 187,000 miles on it)
@@m0bgaming68 rotten egg smell its catalytic converter going bad mine has 88oookm
o Rebelo I’ve heard that too. But I recently have checked service records and it had the catalytic converter changed not too long ago. I’ve heard that it smells like that for a while. The smell has definitely reduced, it’s not as bad as before
@@m0bgaming68 my IS 350 does the same thing when I drive it hard is that the only model that does that ? nobody has solved this mystery yet? Anybody try with a cat delete see if the smell is gone
Thanks I know this video is a yr old but I discovered you from your Scotty Kilmer video.. I'm in the market for a lexus 2010ish Is or GS in Prestene condition with under 50,000 miles.
Lexus will definitely last you! If you go the IS350 or GS350, they have the same engine with 306hp. The IS250 has the 204hp engine.
do you know if any of these apply to the 3rd gen as well? lookin at getting a 2014 350 with 82k miles
Similar engine so yup!
I just bought a 2014 is 350 f sport in south Africa. 86k kms. Loving every minute in it. So does the wife. Can't get rid of her now.
@@faizeladam1404 hahaha
Have you thought of adding an oil catch can?
Wonder how many BMWs and Audis, are running with this may miles 😊
I am in the market to pick up a use Lexus IS350 from 2006-2013 year and a lots of them have like 130k to 150k plus miles on them. How reliable is this Lexus Engine or the Lexus IS350.
If you own a Lexus IS350 from 2006-2013 please post your miles you currently have? and what maintenance you made so for etc.
Thank you so much in advance : )
So 2006-2013 engines are the same? Same oil consumption problems ? Any years to go for?
Yup Sam engine with minor tweaks. Newer, the better. But full synthetic oil with additives helps with the consumption
Marty, why the change from mobil 1 full synthetic high mileage to penzoil? Also, what happened to your megan strut tower bar??
Hey bro am getting a Lexus IS 350 with a 1801km it’s a 2006 what you think about that
Man you know your car 💯
How’s the car in the winter, gunna be my first winter with my Is
Have you look into the changing the engine mounts?
Yo how did you get the trim around the grille black? did you paint it yourself or purchase it?
I have a check system on my dashboard. (I have a IS 250) And Autozone did a diagnostic and said it's the Air sensor. I need a air sensor. Is that expensive? And how important is that?
Did you figure out what it was ?
@@captinsmoke8227 Yes, it was just a battery. The auto zone worker was trying to get me to buy a something. My mechanic checked the car and told me there's nothing wrong with it. And the sensor went away.
is it possible to get 1000hp from turbochargers for is350
What fluid do you recommend for the transmission?😊
Is it worth replacing the differential fluid?
What’s the best oil to put in the Lexus is250 ??.
I would use the Castro Oil Full Syntethic high mileage 10-30 on my iS300 .
Thank you so much!!!!👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽💯💯💯
How does it sound with the f sport box and rr racing intake tube
I like it, some of my other videos have sounds of it revving, but it’s a good induction sound
Great tips. But the video was so dark. 😭
I will try to see if I can brighten it up more
Did you ever get any blow by with that crank case vent?
This video is very dark can’t really see too much on here, But I’m sure your next video will be more awesome.
Marty, can you please mention the brand of air filter? It’s not in your comments section, and we are limited for choice here in New Zealand. Thanks
Hey Steve - I just had an F sport filter from Lexus
Great video. I'm looking to install bc racing coils. I assume yours is on coils? How low do you have it? It looks great and super flushed
Thanks for making these type of videos! 🙏
You got it!
Sir its normal in is350 to top oil ever 1200 miles. My is350 has oil consumption and inwas thingking engine has problem because oil burning.
Link for the air filter?
Team Lexus #owna of a is 350 🙏
do they have a cleaner for the fsport airfilter? or can you just rinse it
my lexus is350 2006 is burning oil .. it gives me the “engine oil level low “alarm every around 300mils and i have to keep adding oil to remove the alarm + it does smoke a little bit but there are (no catalytic converters) and the smell is so annoying while driving and the windows are open .. i have been facing this problem around a year and sadly it’s not fixed yet
2012 lexus is350 55k miles for 21k... is that a good deal?
pipedesigner i do not think so
I just baught this car.. I want to do the oil change myself but it seems to sit very low to the ground.. I dont know if there's a jack I can use to lift it.. is there a jack recommended for a low car like this?... I really dont want to take it to oil stop😶
Why do you film in the evening? Can’t really see the car well😮
I need help have a lexus is 250
And it’s telling me i have a intake manifold runner control stuck open bank 1
And intake manifold runner control stuck closed bank 1
From my knowledge, excess carbon build up is a big issue in the 4cyl IS250. The manual even states you should give it the "Italian tune-up" every now and again. It's the reasons most owners 1st mods are oil catch cans. So my advice to you is to check google. I'm sure someone else has run into the same issue your having. I dont know how the intake manifolds work on the 4 cylinders but it sounds like its gonna require you to take the intake manifold off. Once you take it off, I advise you to also replace intake gaskets.
Great video, I wrote you ig in regards to the car running lean when I changed the intake
jason born running lean how
I’m in the market for one of these but here in the uk we only get the IS250😭 would I be disappointed by a 250, or just embrace they’re slow and enjoy it?
Mine burns oil what is the best solution someone help. Have the exact same car
use heavier oil.
Does this go for IS 250 and IS 300?
Great vid man!
Can you please let me know where you got the main grille matching the lower grille.
Here is a link to that product: amzn.to/3oy37SH
does the penzoil ultra platinum perform any better than mobil 1 in your opinion?
Yo guys every so often my 06 is350 will flash low engine oil i just got it changed maybe 500-800 miles ago what do we think that is itll turn off and on depending on my speed and stuff
Do the 2012 and 2013 IS350 burn oil?
