    I knew she'd be a great gymnast when I saw her pushing that quik Crete. I do some concrete work and pushing 12 bags is impressive. Great video, I'm going to use your design, with a few modifications (mostly because my daughter is less experienced) with a lower bar and a higher bar if she continues to be passionate about it. I'm also going to add some rebar in areas. But your video is awesome and thank you very much. Keep working hard!

    • @ArianaFrechette
      @ArianaFrechette  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      We used a cedar tone treated wood, so it should weather well. It has been almost a year now and a snowy cold winter and it is looking good. I like the idea though of adding a paint or weather seal to it . Good luck on yours, we hope all goes well and the video help in some way. (Ariana's Dad)

    I would like to build this, but my husband is worried about the engineering and the force our girls would put on it during giants... one is 100lb and 5'9" - will this hold? and can we go narrower than 8'8" across? are the cables an absolute must? Also, how has it held up outside for the last 3 years (we are in MN)?

    • @ArianaFrechette
      @ArianaFrechette  ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @astockton9 Hello, my strap bar has held up well. It is 3 years old now and I still use it. I am 5'0 tall and 105 pounds now and I can still do giants on it. My dad says you could go narrower, he just wanted to make it the same width as a regulation bar set. He says he has seen others without the cables but says the cables give it more support. We are in MN too and it has held up great over the winters. My dad says because of the treated cedar-toned 4x6 post. I hope this helps. 🙂

  • @eforti
    @eforti ปีที่แล้ว +1

    @ArianaFrechette, did you wrap the PVC with tape? Doesn't look like plain PVC in the video. Also, how wide were each of the holes for the 4x6 posts? In the video it just references 8'4" wide for the overall footprint, not the hole size.
    As the gymnast using this, do you feel the flex in the bar is similar to what you use at a gym? More/less?

    • @ArianaFrechette
      @ArianaFrechette  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @eforti, yes my dad wrapped it with the white medical tape. My dad can't remember the hole size, he thinks it was 12 inches. I would say there is a little less flex than the bar in the gym, but it does flex some, giving the same feel as set.

    Is there a way I could do the PVC thing if my bar is already secured. Because I really want one

    • @ArianaFrechette
      @ArianaFrechette  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hello, My dad says you would have to saw a cut from one end of the PVC to the other. Then try to open it open just enough to fit over the galvanized pipe. Then tap the PVC pipe good to close up the cut. See this video to better see what I tried to say. th-cam.com/video/WuIMKmQG_F0/w-d-xo.html

    Where did you buy your straps? My mom and dad will not let me do this because it is permanent in the ground.

    • @ArianaFrechette
      @ArianaFrechette  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      We made the straps. here is a previous comment about how we made them.
      We used 1 inch nylon strap material. You can buy bulk strap material at most hardware stores. I used one of my dads extra 1 inch tie down straps. We cut 2 (for making two straps) 30 inch pieces. Take your first strap and make a loop, you will want to safety pin the ends together to get the right size. Once pinned at what you think is the correct size for you, test it by wrapping the strap around the bar and put your hands through the strap and wrap around your wrist (see video at 8:34). Once I had the loop the correct size for my wrist my mom sowed the ends together. After the ends were sowed together we cut off the extra length and used a lighter to burned the ends so that they would not fray. My straps ended up being 12 inches when the loop is folded down. I hope this helps. 😀

      @Lego made - Yes, straps help keep my hands and wrist tight. Does your strap bar have a PVC pipe over the bar that helps you go around?

    • @MyHealthyPlate_recipes
      @MyHealthyPlate_recipes 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@ArianaFrechette no, I use gloves and straps like some other people use it. It’s too much work putting the pipe in since I use a pull up bar and if I decide to put it on, I would have to split the pipe in half. We also have a tiny backyard so we wouldn’t be able to fit the huge bar in. When I put on the gloves it is really slippery with the straps. I saw some other gymnasts use gloves and straps and they make it look easy like it is not slippery, but it actually is. Do you have any advice on the strap with the gloves??

    • @ArianaFrechette
      @ArianaFrechette  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I would guess you would have no problems. The bar can hold a good amount of weight. My brothers did pull ups on it and they are 160 to 185 pounds. My dad says if you build one that is not as wide as the one we built you would get less flex on the bar when doing giants. Hope this helps.
