  • One week after Hurricane Beryl caused death and destruction in the Southern Grenadines on July 1, 2024, Prime Minister Ralph Gonsalves says Mayreau has not been forgotten and is “very much at the forefront of our concerns”.

Words cannot express how sorry I am for the loss everyone has suffered due to this catastrophe. I empathize with this gentleman's feeling when he said that he is wearing a lady's shoes that was given to him because he has lost everything. God knows your pain. You will recover it all, my country folk, by God's grace in Jesus Mighty Name. Keep the faith. Don't give up. Once there is life, there is hope.❤🙏

Where are the press conferences?? Where is transparent organization. This government could learn lessons from Grenada's response to it's people. This PM seems too relaxed, too focused on money and assessments and letting volunteers, charity, and outside army forces to respond to it's people immediate survival needs. Not impressed. People FIRST money LATER!!

@@Frostytemp83 no. But I have visited many of the affected islands, spent a lot of time in the lesser antilles, and I hate seeing deserving people not get the response and urgency they deserve in such a crisis.

@@subltesinner35 I just asked if you were a Vincentian, could’ve been a yes or no answer. The reason I asked if you’re Vincentian is because you’re putting in your mouth or fingers where it doesn’t belongs. 1 you don’t know what the gov of avg is doing, you’re just going off of what you saw on yt. 2 you’re comparing svg with Grenada. You’re on the outside looking in. If you don’t have the facts you can’t make any judgement on what’s happening.

I would say the costumes display yes as they were already built and some visitors would have already payed money for this. As relates to calyspo shows and other competitions of this sort could have been rescheduled as far as August or even to Independence. #Loveroftheartform

A lot of people on the mainland had prepared for carnival for months...hotels, taxis, hotels, vendors and other services were depending on that income, which in turn is beneficial to the country's economy...there were already people in the country for the festivities. As it is, six days activities were cancelled. Also, the CDC has pledged a percentage of the moneys for the 4 days of carnival. Cancelling carnival would have been a foolish thing to do, and would not have benefitted the southern grenadine islands any more than they did by carrying on. I remember when after 911, George Bush encouraged people in NY to continue shopping and living.

@@knicknackpolly5754 For sure, but SVG has a contingency fund and only first 15 million released on 10th...10 days after beryl hit. He relied on/asked for charity for imminent and immediate need instead of acting. Contingency fund has 60 million+ in it. Doesn't sit right with me that people waited for days for basics. People's basic life sustaining needs must be first priority 💯

They put out a report a few days ago that they were OK other than some external damage...I imagine like landscaping and other things that can easily be replaced/renovated.
