Peppermint is so incredibly eloquent and well-spoken, and while I agree with her points on responsibility to be politically correct in the larger world of mainstream media to an extent, Bob made a great point, one that I've been speaking on since the viral Hater's Roast videos debacle -- the Hater's Roast is the very occasion to make those off-colour jokes, the ones that normally go unsaid, but the problem arises when people film and share it. Everyone in the room -- the performers and audience members, the hosts of the venue, and likely the people working it -- agreed to the situation and are complicit, compliant and willing. Everyone there has agreed to this situation. With social media, you're inviting numbers of people into the situation who would otherwise not be there because they are already opposed to the content and unaware of the circumstances in which the event is taking place. It's pulling it all out of the context and the setting that was created for those jokes and remarks, and was never meant to leave the room afterwards. On the flip side, I think if there are performers who truly want to be treated as contemporaries to the performers on a mainstream stage and contend for the same awards and achievements, what comes with that is mainstream fame and recognition. Therefore Peppermint has a point about accountability and stripping away a lot of what may have been acceptable in niche environments to play to a larger audience, a mixed audience, and ultimately set an example as a representative of that minority community by behaving in a way that doesn't diminish or belittle members of that community. I don't think it does and should apply to all performers, but certainly ones that would like to be on larger mainstream platforms. It might make you less likeable to fellow performers, peers, and long-time fans once you drop the dark humour, but responsibility to become more accessible and PC is the trade-off for success with the masses.
Well, drag queens are subversive, thats the point. The point isn't to dress up and make socially acceptable music, the point is to tear down society's walls and open it up to inclusiveness by being rebellious. Times are changing. TBH I'm not a huge fan of Pepper, she tiptopes and fence rides from time to time or at least that is my view of her.
@@caligulalonghbottom2629 Yeah as long as there's nothing malicious in a joke it's also up to everyone to have some sense of humor I guess... You can expect backlash with some risky jokes as they say but if folks are super-defensive with jokes that aren't meant to belittle them they can also expect to hear more of these in future.. It works both ways. The whole world doesn't stop cause X "didn't think it was funny" to make a joke about this or that.
@@juliencastle2953 Couldnt agree more, the paradoxical superiority/victim culture is really unfortunate. Everyone is offended by everything, you cant please everyone and the appeal to PC culture will be the death of comedy and potential careers .
@@jge2673 Exactly! The gay community often kiss the ass of a funny lady like the non-PC Joan Rivers yet if she was alive now she would get her fair share of polemics from some of the gay community members because of her gay jokes.... It's adversarial. Even out of the gay community... Folks act like if they were fans of risqué stuffs to look edgy and feel rebellious but start getting moralistic over every joke that is a tad dark even when it's merely a joke and not that serious at all... That's our era sadly. We're expected to not joke about this or that cause all journalists recycle the same 4 offended tweets they found which are supposed to proves "there are plenty of people hurt by these joke" when it's actually not even true sometimes lmao.
I came for Bob and Peppermint, I stayed for the genuinely interesting conversations and the fact that Gia, who I was not a fan of in S6, has definitely matured and she seems so much happier now that she is living authentically. Same with Jiggly.
I largely agree with Peppermint's points on comedy - you can say what you like, but you should expect a backlash if you say something offensive. But I find it slightly troubling to suggest that drag should reduce itself in order to suit the mainstream - the mainstream needs to be challenged!
Yep. Pep cares more about Grammys than the subversive nature of drag it seems. I've personally never been a fan of her and always considered her to be a bit contrived and purposeful. She fence rides and tiptoes around, even with the Ru trans statements. Not really a fan. I see what she's saying but drag is 'meant' to be subversive. You don't assimilate to get your point across, you get it across by tearing down the walls, not begging to be let in.
I’m sad no one mentioned Sharon or jinkx’s music :( but everyone they did mention is amazing, there’s so many wonderful musicians amongst the drag race alumni!
This is the first comments section I've seen in my life that doesn't mention "I would like to see this person added, or i don't like this person on the cast". So that means they literally picked the perfect cast for this

I absolutely love this series and these girls. These conversations are so important, and to have opposing perspectives like Bob's and Peppermint's but to still have kindness within the conflict is so refreshing. I wish this was a regular series. These queens just work so well together.
With due respect to Valentina (whom I stan), I think Miss Congeniality should be an award different than Miss Fan Favorite, and both should be awarded at the end of RPDR's season, being the first based on the contestants' votes.
I love the show and I love this combination put together It's great to see girls like myself getting along relating to things that they do very similar or the same keep it coming
