- this is my entry to Dominic Bender ( / @beinspiredwithdominic ) for the inspiration !
i make this olive wood bowl from a piece of wood that i had cut down 1/2016 is a normal kind of local olive wood ! The real time Video was more than 5 hour because the olive wood is very hard to turn when is wet at the end grain. Also this piece it was so wide for my lathe and this is make me to many problems but in the end was amazing !! i hope you enjoy the video !!!

Αλέξανδρε σε ευχαριστώ πάρα πολύ για τα καλά σου λόγια! Το έκανα δουλειά μου είναι η αλήθεια το έχω αγαπήσει πολύ και μαζί με αυτήν έχουμε περάσει όμορφες αλλά και δύσκολες στιγμές αλλά έχουμε πολλά να μας κρατάνε ζωντανούς!! Και ελπίζουμε να φύγει αυτή η κατάρα να μπορέσουμε να ξαναδουλεψουμε !!
Παρα πολυ καλη εγασια,και αρκετα δυσκολη ειδικα στο γυαλοχαρτισμα/γυαλισμα, οι ακρες του κομματιου ειναι λεπιδες κατα την περιστροφη.

I understood every thing you did. I just hope that I become as good as you. In time I hope so. I just got to keep turning. Right now my Pens that I turn is getting great reviews. I made 6 pens for one lady and she gave them as gifts. Her and all of the recipients gave great praise about them. Made her fell good. At the moment building a new lathe with centerheight 52cm, So no turning (only watching video's) I am happy I found your channel, nice inspiration

thanks you very much for your kind words J.Jansen !!! 52 cm is more than enough ! my new lathe turns 56cm but for me is a very steady lathe for smaller work !!! try to make yours as heavy you can because for me is the most important !!!

The heigt is above the bed, so able to turn 104 cm :-)
The machine will be around 450 kg (empty) and with ballast around 900kg
I know the stratos XL, have learned on that lathe, really good quality
what do you have now Hanger ???? tell me did you find any problems to Stratos XL i have no problem but is new right now !!!

Haha....No, not a hangar, a short of place I do have, but that is common to woodturning right ?
I haven't found any problems to the stratos, A really solid and stable machine a joy to work at (Some things I experienced as better to handle on the stratos vs the Oneway Lathe)
i see starts and Jet the one next to the other .... stratos take my heart !!!
Hello Kostas adding to prev comment. How old was the Olive because it's beautifully grained. I've been turning some young Olive prunnings in NZ and it's quite White with nice grain markings but minimal colour and clogs gouges quickly but seems to be very dense.
Hello Ray ! This was not so old tree maybe 50-60 years old ! Not always the olive us so hard ! But if they grow near ro a river can be hard like rock !!!
@@KostasAnnikasDeftereos Thanks for that. Olives are a relatively recent additions to NZ's landscape grown for the oil. Maybe only 10 - 15 years and that explains a lot. I appreciate you taking the time to respond to youe many Followers

yes bro was dangerous because those day i haven't a proper tool rest and my tool was far away !!! and one more problem is that olive are very hard to curve with the end grain !!!

Όχι Δημήτρη δεν έσκισε! Αυτό γιατί ήταν πολύ λεπτό έτσι αποδυναμοσα το ξύλο και δεν είχε την δύναμη να τραβήξει τόσο ώστε να το σκίσει! Επίσης δεν φτάνει να κάνεις λεπτά τα τοιχώματα πρέπει να είναι λεπτός και ο πάτος

why does he heat the surface before sanding?
+Patrick K. This was a piece that come from a fresh log !! When you turning fresh wood you have a lot of humidity !!! So you must make it thin an warm the surface if you like to sanding it

Για να γυαλοχαρταρεις μπορεις να το φυσας και με πεπιεσμενο αερα αντι να το καις. Τραβαει την επιφανειακη υγρασια. Και βεβαια υπαρχει και η λυση των μικροκυματων για λιγο μικροτερα κομματια....

Το ρωτάω διότι φτιάχνω ιδιοκατασκευή οπότε και η επόμενη ερώτησή μου είναι εάν μπορώ να βρώ ξέχωρα τα εργασία στίρηξης του ξύλου στη βάση του κινητήρα

This is beautiful but the video was too fast and a little slower please or am I the only one. I jut slowed it down in playback speed that better but now the music sounds like it’s drunk. 🤪😜🤪😜
