    I’ve come to see that from day to day and week to week tips have other variables such as driving area, passengers (local or vacation travelers) passengers moods, type of people, etc…. I can go from 15% to 30% in depending on where and who I pick up. I think more data needs to be collected for a true comparison, however Good work with the study. Much Appreciated.

    Tip is always appreciated however isn't it like lowering one dignity expecting and depending on gratitude? Why rather my hard work should not earn me enough? Why do I let a corporate disgrace me by paying peanuts for my hard work?😮

    EX driver here....3 years on Lyft and Uber. Had signs and a tip jar. Tip jar 3 years and 4000 plus rides $36.00, in the apps about $400.00. 2017 to 2020. I got food, bottles of whiskey and wine, hats, ball point pens, and offers of good lord have mercy (all declined).

    I always see these people post huge earnings for a week or a day - but almost universally they have very low tips like 3 or 4%... something odd. I drive about 28 hours a week and make around $650 per week...but my tips are consistently like 18 - 20%. I dont use a sign. i use friendliness....

    • @dangonzalez3505
      @dangonzalez3505 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      No matter how friendly I get, I don't get tips. I do, however, get consistent reviews of how friendly I am. Unfortunately, that doesn't translate to tips.

    100 % of tips? How can we sure of that? Unfortunately, some drivers have reported Uber/Lyft are stealing some or part of our tips. While I can’t claim with 100 % of certainty that is the case, I would say that there have been a handful of riders that have promised me a tip and then I don’t get anything and some of these riders seem to be serious and honest people…Anyway, regardless of what the problem is, whether a technical issue or are actually stealing I would say we don’t get 100% of our tips unless the riders give us cash.
    Regarding putting signs to asked for tips, for me is a no, I guess I’m too prideful to ask for it, but I’m grateful when they do give me tips. I’m also not against you asking for tips or putting signs, more power to you…I just know I can’t do that.
    Thanks for your videos.

    Jay, I saw a big bump in tips after enticing riders into talking about themselves, with simple questions, like, "Hey, what’re you up to today?" and "What fun things are we embarking on together?" or, "Where’re you flying to today?" People would tell me about their jobs, relationships, hopes, etc., and at the end of 20 minutes they feel better to have had someone listening. While before people would ask me the same questions (where I’m from; if I’m busy; how long I’ve been Ubering) now I’m the one gently probing and no one has ever said, Mind your own business. Almost everyone tips this way, and my tips often approach 30% of my take home pay. Thanks for your always interesting, and positive, slant on rideshare driving.

    Sign up with the popular payment apps. Have your QR codes printed on a small (about the size of a medium postcard) laminated sign. No additional text necessary. Many riders will use them.

    That's what it's really coming to. I don't want to work for tips. Passengers are feeling the financial squeeze just like us. I already complain about restaurants asking for tips all the time. Why should I expect a tip when I'm not getting out to help with bags? I'm simply picking you up and dropping you off. Passengers are being squeezed just like drivers, and it's unfair to pressure them to pay even more for rides that Uber and Lyft are already overcharging for.

    My tips are well over 50% of my earnings. I engage people in conversation, tell them about good places to go for dinner or a club. I wasn't taking 3.00 rides for a half a mile ride but now I do because I usually get a $5 tip. Now I get pissed if I don't get a tip

    I believe that those who tips won’t tell you and those who tell you won’t tip. I have never expected or beg for tip nor do I subscribe to “if you do X I’ll tip you”, that’s like telling a dog to perform for treats. Most of my riders tip $8 plus some even $100 and I have never had to beg for a tip.

      Begging??? My guy, these people live in a culture where tipping is not optional, and yet more than 85% of them do not tip. Reminding your customers that they have a duty to compensate you for quality service is not begging, it's the thinnest possible layer of accountability.

    • @nikidelvalle
      @nikidelvalle 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      You are the bad guy in this context, get over yourself and remember how little drivers make and how few people remember to tip even if they intend to. We live in America, tipping is not optional, it does not matter how you "feel" about that. Tipped workers don't like it either, but it's the way things are right now and will continue to be until this culture where a select few customers subsidize the vast majority of cheapskates is eliminated. Clearly many riders need reminding to fulfill their basic human responsibility to their service workers.

    • @leandromondelez1205
      @leandromondelez1205 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Tipping IS optional. Working for Uber/Lyft is also optional.

    • @nikidelvalle
      @nikidelvalle 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @omondelez1205 Let me be absolutely clear. If you do not tip, you are a bad person. It is not optional, these companies pay less because they are structured around the assumption that tips will supplement worker income. The minimum wage for tipped employees is lower because customers are expected to subsidize their income, this is an inherent part of every tipped business model. If you think tipping is optional, you are LYING TO YOURSELF. If you can't afford to tip, you can't afford the service, PERIOD. If you use a service despite that understanding, YOU ARE SCUM.

    • @BUEAU
      @BUEAU 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@nikidelvalle I'm not the bad guy... I always tip $5. But when I got in that car with the signs, it made me not want to tip him and I'm sure it has the same effect on others. It's tacky and pushy and passengers don't require a reminder to tip.

    • @nikidelvalle
      @nikidelvalle 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1
