Positions of power can easily corrupt people. If I was offered role I'd ask for time to think about it, especially an officer role because they are people who manage things. . I just have very little tolerance for drama nowadays. We play games for fun, to meet people and pass the time not to deal with grown adults who should know better.

Exactly ! There's enough drama irl like in school or work or personals lives don't need drama in game as well

I find that the best people suited to staff roles or community roles are those who genuinely want to help others while simultaneously viewing the position as a volunteer job as they tend to never abuse the powers that come with it.
You also have to make sure that they're not too under enthusiastic for it, because then you'd have a situation that often happens with game developers where the community managers end up hating the community they're looking after and just sit and fester in their position happily accepting pay checks while simply sitting back sneering at the community doing nothing outside of what they're told to do. In the case of volunteers who are under enthusiastic I find these ones to be worse than the nepotistic power trippers as they tend to behave like robots and enforce the rules on their community arbitrarily with zero situational awareness nor making any attempts to read the room (*cough* Stereotype Reddit mods *cough*).

This must be a common occurrence. In the first FC I joined in this game one of the friends I made there decided he wanted to branch off and make his own FC and a dozen of us went off to join it. For weeks afterwards some among us were like "Oh this is happening in that FC/so-and-so from that FC said this" and I was just thinking "why are we still talking about that FC? I thought the idea was we're starting something new here." 🤔

I appreciate that my fc are people with a grasp of social cues. I find it funny how you can willingly put yourself in a community or make one with others and just not know how to talk to people at all.

I was in an FC that picked and chose whose side they were on based on how well of friends they were. It was during the start of Materia's server creation and members had many problems, the rps that were displayed in discord threads had no trigger warnings and were actually disgusting, and the FC leaders had no problem with it (among many other issues such as favoritism and snarky comments to members).
I and some people in the group told the FC leader the issue and he got me and the other FC leader into a discord group they yelled at me, tried to tell me I was wrong for telling them that the NSFW content wasn't tagged at ALL, and when I did eventually crack and apologize for nothing, they continued to yell at me. I asked them what their goal was in continuing the argument and they ignored it and started coming after me personally.
I left right after that and a week goes by. Turns out many people had left after I did and I heard stories of the FC leader- who is trans- telling other trans members that their issues weren't valid because he didn't think they were issues himself.
Horrible. It's why I moved straight back to my original data center.

Information is never a bad thing. Maybe make a section in the discord showing facts or formal complaints and mark It NSFW so you have to consent to see. So people who don't like "drama" can avoid it. But covering up problems like Bill is never good. It just allows him to have more victims and con for longer. Conmen get found out when stories start adding up.
You mentioned thanking FC leaders that handld drama. And sure, if they do it right. But if they cover it up how many of those problems could have been avoided after the first offense?

Well, I am from the Netherlands.. and Bills behavior would also have been considered rude in the Netherlands..I think indeed the leaders of that fc were friends with him.. They way how Bill demanded the first mount drops and leave almost right after.. the way he "orders" his gear.. its just disgusting how he treats other people and their time..

Kinda off topic but are there like actual FC competitions in the game? Like could one FC compete against another in like mini games or tournaments specifically made for FCs to compete?

nahhh lol I am actually fine with Allie broadcasting that fiasco, cuz how else would I know about somebody like Bill, who I should avoid and be aware of. There'd occasionally be times where I befriend a player only to soon discover the hard way that he/she is a toxic player, all bcuz nobody in a Free Company bother to tell me about that player's toxicity.
