Great job. Its also important to note to have a different build for PVP, and pushing high CR contents, others might salvage items with high CR just because they have reach the 11% cap but later on they might need it when they will go higher difficulty and high cr is also very good in PVP you can never go wrong with high cr because most of the time there will be a player with higher cr. So before you salvage something check different game contents if you will need it on PVP, challenge rifts, raids and also events. Also for necro you have to consider freedom and devotion gem it doesn't give direct damage but the duration of your clones from echoing shade, golem and mage/reapers which ever you prefer will be increased and will give you consistent high damage.
Nice breakdown of the buckets. D4 vids showed me how key that was for multiplicative damage, good to know what DI uses. I outpunch a lot of higher res players, but I know of a couple similar res who then beat me by similar margins, they really stack the gem bonuses, now I know why that adds so much more for them when the total % bonuses on our sheets look very similar. Ex their cutthroat is doing more than me having similar %s coming from my reforges.
Would love to have a shortened video which showcases the Priority of attributes that we should look for when equipping items. (i.e. 1st: Attributes, 2nd: Magic, 3rd: CR, 4th Invocation/Curse). Since it's almost impossible to find a "perfect" item, I often struggle when deciding between a Triple Stat item that doesn't have Str/Intel, vs. a Double Stat which does.
A very good guide to damage. I agree with your sentiment that it's better to know why something works rather than just be told what to do and not understand. So, I appreciate the breakdown. I also like how your build is very similar to mine. It lets me know I'm on the right track, using my own instincts. One criticism though; You keep saying that CR is not relevant at all, but I feel that is an end game mentality and not the mentality of a new player who is struggling to meet the CR requirements of Helliquary raids. Being below CR for things like that will nerf you by a factor of 100. No dmg modifiers will matter when you dmg is in the double digits and you are getting 1-shot killed. Once you meet the minimum CR requirement for a difficulty, then YES a little more CR doesn't matter. But, if you're below the minimum then you're going to be struggling. As a new player who just hit the minimum CR for Inferno 1, I find it unthinkable to be using an item from Hell-7. Probably because my gem resonance is below 500 and most of my gear is around tier 11 and not max tier/awakened items. So, I just felt that advice wasn't the best thing for a new player who has spent little to no money on the game. They are not having the same experience as someone with awakened gear and high gem resonance.
I really appreciate you taking the time to explain everything. It's been very helpful and I'm grateful for the clarification. I used to rely on those green arrows to determine when to switch my gear, but now I realize how silly that was. I won't be doing that anymore. However, I do have one question: As a monk, I understand that you advise prioritizing CHC over any other attribute. However, I am curious to know if there are any situations where it would make sense for me to focus on attack speed or primary attack damage instead. Or would you say that CHC should always be the top priority for monks? would you say that CHC should always be the top priority over any/all magical attributes?
First of all thank you for your positive feedback! I would say that my thumbrule is to go for ChC bit ofc there are cases where some other attribute could compete for the top spot. Attack speed should always be focused on but there is a cap on attack speed and u can often, as mentioned in the video, reach the cap through different kind of buffs. If attack speed is not capped then AS can be as important as CHC. Remember that all brackets still matter and that the general thumb rule is that 1% in the bracket with the least % in it is most impactful. I will make more videos in the future where we dive even deeper into the numbers. Please subscribe if you are interested in that type of content and please share with your friends 🙏
Wow, I finally finished watching this guide, and now I’m kicking myself for not having done so sooner, eg before I first started gearing up in i4. I probably should not have been so quick to salvage my i3 gear, but better late than never! One question I have is: are there any exceptions you’ve become aware of to the “damage buffs and debuffs don’t stack” rule you state here? For example, I believe there’s a newer necromancer essence that grants your golem a damage debuff to the enemy. Does that stack with the poison golem’s base debuff?
Yes there are some things that do stack. That essence u are refering to will stack with a lot of other debuffs. There are also other examples. Thanks for watching! Edit: Yes it stacks with the poison golem. For sustained dmg prong is very important though (if u see my 10m dps build u will understabd why) I actually managed 12m dps since then 😍
Thanks for the great video, maybe the best breakdown of the dmg formula I've seen. One question for you: Would you still prioritize CHC as highly for crusaders? With high banner uptime CHC is often just CHD. I still run mostly CHC/CHD pieces, but I wonder if you think it's excusable to for instance use a piece without CHC but a good invocation roll.
Thank you so much! As long as your chc is below 65% each point in chc should be better than chd. I am not a crusader expert though so take this advice with a grain of salt 🙏
@auroth great work here - have seen this 'maths' before, but your detailed presentation of it and real world examples really tops anything... ANYTHING that I have seen. You should virtually team with @vk - another youtube necro doing detailed work and see what you can do to further educate us. I do have a question for you and your readers: Around the 1:12:35 mark you are talking about your 'real world' dmg based on the exponential effect of your bonus' you have detailed in this section. Having see a similar damage calc before and running the numbers and repeating it again using your steps and formulas - I just don't see this Damage being Exponential. When you wander out of a town and use a primary attack on a random monster - Do you SEE 230k as your regular damage? Because I don't and wonder if I am reading the dmg right (White number relating to the regular attack). For Me, I see Dmg Numbers more in line with a Base Dmg * (4 column totals as you present added together) - so more of a linear calc - Base*bonus % = real world dmg calc - not an exponential one. I am a 2k Necro with a base dmg around 16k, bonus' related to this section of video of about 250%. Exponential Dmg would be around 117K using your calc but I am seeing around 40k (on avg as I have a P&C r10 and of course my primary dmg changes as it cycles) and crits around 110-120k. I know that these numbers move up and down (I have several reforge bonus like dmg to enemies below x health, or dmg to shielded enemies, ect), But in General I have never seen regular damage anywhere near what 'should be seen' based on an exponential calculation. My Crits are in that ball park (orange/yellow on screen). So (sorry about the long winded post) - wondering what I should be seeing - am I reading the on screen dmg correctly / other factors in play? - Is this purported dmg Visible? Does anyone see thier Calculated reg dmg x bonus being in the exponential range? - will work on the calc of you next section - Crits - and review. Your thoughts and comments are welcome.
Remember that avg dmg takes critical hits into account. To make it simple. If your normal hits do 10k dmg and your critical hit damage is 200% then your critical hits will be 30k. If your chc is 50% u will hit 10k 50% of the time and 30k 50% of the time. This gives an average damage of 20k. Since my chc is so high during lament my avg dmg will be closer to the crit value compared to if my chc would be lower. Does this answer your question or did I misunderstand something?
Also please feel free to add me in discord. We can go through your build and run it through my spreadhseet @aurothkuro Also remember that the calculations in this video converts the base damage into real avg dmg. Each skill has a different value from the start so keep that in mind. If ur base dmg is 10k and ur primary skill does 5k at base value it will be 50% lower than the results from the calc in this video (if u calculate all modifiers that affects primary atk dmg)
simply great! guess some points are a little bit focussed on pve and necro but every player in DI should watch this video. do you know the exact amount of +CR to reach 11,3 % increase?
Yes this video is main focus PvE. Many examples in the video is coming from a necro point of view but I think the logic is still the same for all classes 😀 Thanks for your kind words and stay tuned for more videos like this in the future!
Can you help me understand, why the resonance formula is (1+Resonance/2000)*base item damage? Does this means, you're not getting your full item base damage until you get to 2000 Resonance?
Imagine you have 100 item base damage at 0 resonance. Then you add 20 resonance that will increase your item base damage by 1% (or 20/2000 = 0,01) To calculate your new item base damage you can’t multiply 100 x 1% (or 0,01) You have to multiply 100 by 101% (or 1 + 20/2000 = 1,01 I hope this helps 🙏
I main a crusader cuz i like padding my clans numbers in raids.... i use banner almost 100% uptime. Since thats the case i can just focus crit dam right? Since banner offers 100% crit chance
Potency is important for PvP but less important for PvE. My personal preference would be to focus on PvE because there your choices will be more impactful than in PvP where resonance matters a lot more. Therefore I would not focus that much on potency. Try to get as much fortitude as possible and blue sockets on your rings. On your attribute screen you can see what the recommended Armor and Armor Penetration is for the difficulty you are currently in. Try to have armor at least at par with recommendation and then try to increase armor penetration as much as possible.

At pve level 500- hell 7 combat rating is more important that critical chance. Maybe critical chance is more important if you are way high level. I tried your method and couldn’t survive hell 7 with using crit chance over combat rating.
Auroth is it worth it to replace my rank 5 fervent fang and rank 2 star fire shard with a bloody reach and followers burden considering that followers burden is useless in pvp???
If you are a necromancer you should replace fervent fang. If not then u should keep it on. If u list all of your gems I can advice on which ones to switch out.

Just insane really. Would you focus on different stats for pvp? I know you mentioned this being strict pve setup. Would CHC and CHD stacking work this well in pvp?
@@Auroth_DI thanks for the timely response and the honesty. I know CR has a Cap aswell so i do not focus on it for pvp. @@Dieterpittroff Thank you for your kind words. I do play a lot of PvP and I might upload some videos in the future focusing on different playstyles. In PvP there are so many factors that has nothing to do with your items or gems. Ofc the correct build will help you perform better but it is even more about factors like map awareness, positioning and more. I am also planning to make a lot shorter DPS tutorial for those who do not feel the need to understand all the logic behind everything. I will also probabky upload some speedruns. Especially when gauntlet 3 goes live. :)
Prong is indeed strong. In endless defense or challenge rift I recommend prong but in most content I can think of most fights are over within one exploding skeleton buff 🙏
@@jonathanbenoza8136 Yes those are very good gems as well. I use both berserkers eye and freedom and devotion in some cases. I do a bit more dmg with bile compared to berserker’s eye. My "actual damage" goes from 601k to 615k with berserker’s eye equipped but I lose the bile dmg and a dead keen tick. The difference is minor but it is still noticeable. My bile is at rank 6 and when you have almost maxed the dmg modifiers u can get from legendary gems each point in base dmg will have a greater effect compared to when the dmg% from gems are not that high. Let’s say that I have kind of reached the reso/dmg modifier break-even. I hope this makes sense 🙏 Just to be clear if anyone else reads this it is for most people better to use Berserker’s Eye rather than Bile and it is also cheaper. When it comes to freedom and devotion I do use it from time to time. In gauntlet i switch it in depending on which boss is next. In some dungeons the "event rotation" is also suitable for freedom and devotion. If I notice that golem tend to die a few seconds before a fight starts in a certain dungeon I switch in freedom and devotion. Thanks for your input. I have also watched your videos. You make awesome content! :D
@@Auroth_DI you do? -_- aww shocks now I am embarassed haha. Anyway, consider this, the reason that you might be doing better dps with bile is maybe because it adds an additional DoT that makes dead keen trigger 2 dot golem buff. But in raids and dungeons, bosses gets a lot of debuff from other members that dont need bile to trigger dead keen. Which is also why bile or dead keen showing you better results btw. Berserker eye if you think about it is actually +19% damage and 2% crit because rank 10 awakened berserker eye has +3% primary attack damage. This beats even follower burden, that's all just some input, sharing experience only hehe
as for the prong, i tested it vs dead keen with target having 3debuffs, even when dead keen is fully maximized, for some reason prong is still performing better (i suspect its because living skeletons means more damage, compared to dead skeletons) It's also just more fun to have non stop skills, it becomes viable outworld too, and in raids, elder rift, long dungeon, you do explode skellies all the time, just my experience to share. ty ty
I would say that most stuff in this video applies for all classes but I am not an avid monk player myself so I am perhaps not the best person to answer this 🙏
I first so excited and then so disappointed in the DI target dummy and have some questions on how useful it is. I wanted something like WoW meter break downs, %crits, hit size, hit count, etc. Instead it just gives vague buckets, sometimes lumping a ton of stuff together. Also, and most crucially, it appears the target dummy is considered like lvl 0 or 0 stats. For example, according to the dummy, my sustained dps after 1min is 1.5mil/sec. First day dummy was out I ran a group with some of the whales in my clan, easy assumption that whole group should hit same or better, so 6mil dps. We get to a dungeon boss with 8 million hp. Boss does not die in 1.5 seconds, more like 6-8 seconds. Fast sure, but, wait, why is it like 1/3rd the dummy number? My inferno2 armor pen says my crit bonus is 52%. Even if the dummy had 0 armor and I was getting the 63% cap that's nowhere near a tripling of damage. Where is the rest of that dummy damage coming from? It also clearly can't be that high vs real targets. If I really did 1.5m dps (and that is sustained, not my spike 5mil like your 8s intro), even with a 30%*40% melee pvp damage reduction I'd still be putting out enough dps to drop a 300k hp whale in a second and that's so not happening. Why they do not have the dummy scale to the difficulty you are on is beyond me.
I am sorry you experience this. I actually kill for example Fahir solo in less than two seconds so I have not experienced the same issue as you. I hope you figure it out 🙏
@@Auroth_DI I think you are. I went back to your Tomb video, for example. It appears your combat lasted ~4 seconds to kill the front 2 legs and the head. The numbers are fuzzy, but I think I read a leg as 2.x million, so call that maybe 8-9mil hp total. Your burst video showed you doing 7mil dps on the dummy and then you've also got the bk there attacking as well. If you really did 7mil+bk's dps to the boss it would be dead in 1 second. It seems you did roughly 1/3rd your dummy dps as well. From some rough comparisons killing a world spawn on inferno2 vs on hell6 my hell dps was nearly double, and which was still lower than the dummy numbers. So, while I'm not quite sure how that 0 stat dummy vs 2000stat inferno 2 translates into triple the dps as armor pen caps at +63%, but I'm pretty sure that difficulty change is the cause.
Correction on Fervent Fang for Necro summons. It does in fact increase damage for summons. You can easily test this out yourself by going to test dummy like I did. I removed all gems and just let the skeletons attack and got base line damage. Then I added Fervent Fang and it did in fact increase damage done. Here is what you need to know. The summons themselves do not stack your Fervent Fang. You have to use your own Primary Attacks to stack Fervent Fang. When you do your summons will also benefit from the damage bonus. Also there are diminishing returns on critical hit chance so adding up all the crit hit you have from all sources does not really equal the total amount so you saying that you have 82% crit hit most the time is incorrect. You can check this out for yourself when hitting test dummy and opening up your stats page to check your crit hit.
Are you sure it was not the extra resonance that increased the dmg of your summons a bit? At what % do you start getting diminishing returns on your critical hit chance?
Hello, As mentioned in the intro this is based of my own research and there might be details that are not 100% correct. What in particular is it you do not agree with since there are a lot of things mentioned in this video? 🙏
It's not very accurate, but is interesting. for example, claiming 82% crit at all times.....ROFL. LEts see that dummy parse again, but this time click on the details and lets see how often you crit and how much for, and it will totally unravel his entire theory of how crit works (that's all this is remember, theory and theory needs peer review)
@@conandude76 U can watch dummy run at start of video :) Since posting this video I have found out that there is diminishing returns on chc from paragon effect. The chc should be 77% not 82% 🙏 If chc is 75,5 u get 6,5% of 24,5 with weaver

Thank you! Also great input! 🔥
Amazing video. Thank you sir!
autist lvl of detail makes me want to play again
Nice breakdown of the buckets. D4 vids showed me how key that was for multiplicative damage, good to know what DI uses. I outpunch a lot of higher res players, but I know of a couple similar res who then beat me by similar margins, they really stack the gem bonuses, now I know why that adds so much more for them when the total % bonuses on our sheets look very similar. Ex their cutthroat is doing more than me having similar %s coming from my reforges.
Thank you, man! Most comprehensive!
Nice work! I appreciate the video and definitely have me rethinking my build.
Thank you! Will make a video with a magical attributes tier list in the future 🙏
Thanks for putting this together

Hero from habo, enjoyed ur content too much, hoping for more..😃
A very good guide to damage.
Thanks for your input. You are 100% correct. I believe though that I say that CR matters a lot when you do content above your recommended CR. 🙏
Please subscribe if you are interested in that type of content and please share with your friends 🙏
great video! thank you
Wow, I finally finished watching this guide, and now I’m kicking myself for not having done so sooner, eg before I first started gearing up in i4.
For sustained dmg prong is very important though (if u see my 10m dps build u will understabd why)
I actually managed 12m dps since then 😍
I'm now thinking if I made the right decision to shift my DMG reforges to Block Chance and Maximize Life for PVP.
Great video
Thanks for the great video, maybe the best breakdown of the dmg formula I've seen.
One question for you: Would you still prioritize CHC as highly for crusaders? With high banner uptime CHC is often just CHD. I still run mostly CHC/CHD pieces, but I wonder if you think it's excusable to for instance use a piece without CHC but a good invocation roll.
Thank you so much! As long as your chc is below 65% each point in chc should be better than chd. I am not a crusader expert though so take this advice with a grain of salt 🙏
Very Good! 👍👍
Here from Habo, staying for the content =)
You are welcome! 😀
Felt like attending some maths lecture 😂😂😂😊😊....awesome depth analysis......soory technical analysis 😅😅❤
@auroth great work here - have seen this 'maths' before, but your detailed presentation of it and real world examples really tops anything... ANYTHING that I have seen. You should virtually team with @vk - another youtube necro doing detailed work and see what you can do to further educate us. I do have a question for you and your readers:
Around the 1:12:35 mark you are talking about your 'real world' dmg based on the exponential effect of your bonus' you have detailed in this section.
We can go through your build and run it through my spreadhseet @aurothkuro
Also remember that the calculations in this video converts the base damage into real avg dmg. Each skill has a different value from the start so keep that in mind. If ur base dmg is 10k and ur primary skill does 5k at base value it will be 50% lower than the results from the calc in this video (if u calculate all modifiers that affects primary atk dmg)
Well done
Thank you 🙏
simply great! guess some points are a little bit focussed on pve and necro but every player in DI should watch this video.
do you know the exact amount of +CR to reach 11,3 % increase?
Yes this video is main focus PvE. Many examples in the video is coming from a necro point of view but I think the logic is still the same for all classes 😀 Thanks for your kind words and stay tuned for more videos like this in the future!
Well done 🙌

And thank you 🙏
Can you help me understand, why the resonance formula is (1+Resonance/2000)*base item damage?
Does this means, you're not getting your full item base damage until you get to 2000 Resonance?
Imagine you have 100 item base damage at 0 resonance.
Then you add 20 resonance that will increase your item base damage by 1% (or 20/2000 = 0,01)
To calculate your new item base damage you can’t multiply 100 x 1% (or 0,01)
You have to multiply 100 by 101% (or 1 + 20/2000 = 1,01
I hope this helps 🙏
Good job !
I tried to do the calculation, but I mess it up.
May I have your calculate table?
Add me on discord @aurothkuro
I main a crusader cuz i like padding my clans numbers in raids.... i use banner almost 100% uptime. Since thats the case i can just focus crit dam right? Since banner offers 100% crit chance
Yes as sader chc is less important on gear 🙏
Bro ty for this. should a low spender summoner (bp+boon) invest in potency?
Potency is important for PvP but less important for PvE. My personal preference would be to focus on PvE because there your choices will be more impactful than in PvP where resonance matters a lot more. Therefore I would not focus that much on potency.
Try to get as much fortitude as possible and blue sockets on your rings. On your attribute screen you can see what the recommended Armor and Armor Penetration is for the difficulty you are currently in. Try to have armor at least at par with recommendation and then try to increase armor penetration as much as possible.
@@Auroth_DI thanks papi appreciate the response

My next video is about PvP but it takes some time because I am very busy IRL atm 🙏
I’m new to necro. Can you post a few builds? Pvp, pve and summons build? Ty
Hello and how happy I am to meet a fellow Necromancer. Here is a video where me and Habonis showcase a great summons build: th-cam.com/video/34AWhh-Yr5Q/w-d-xo.htmlsi=rHwt_lVpTzIRDebd
With the build you were using on the training dummy, bottled hope does not proc. Is this correct? It does not for me.
Are u referring to the 1 min sustained build or the 10 sec burst build?
Have you equipped no rest no peace?
The immediate dummy fight of the video, i see it procs for you, however it does not for me. I will see if no rest no peace is the issue. Thank you
What about atack speed? I found it benefits more on dh or bk compare to critical hit.
I talk a lot about attack speed in the ”other inportant factors” segment. Attack speed is indeed very important 🙏
At pve level 500- hell 7 combat rating is more important that critical chance. Maybe critical chance is more important if you are way high level. I tried your method and couldn’t survive hell 7 with using crit chance over combat rating.
Yes you are correct. CR is most important if you are below the recommended lvl but in some time that will no longer be an issue 😊🙏
What about CR in PvP? If a player has higher CR than another does that give 10% extra dmg?
This is correct. CR cap in PvP is 10%
Auroth is it worth it to replace my rank 5 fervent fang and rank 2 star fire shard with a bloody reach and followers burden considering that followers burden is useless in pvp???
If you are a necromancer you should replace fervent fang. If not then u should keep it on. If u list all of your gems I can advice on which ones to switch out.

Just insane really. Would you focus on different stats for pvp? I know you mentioned this being strict pve setup. Would CHC and CHD stacking work this well in pvp?
Thank you! In PvP I tend to focus more on CR. All modifiers are heavily nerfed. In all honesty I have not made as much PvP research though. 😊
@@Auroth_DI thanks for the timely response and the honesty. I know CR has a Cap aswell so i do not focus on it for pvp. I’m a 5K reso 3K secondary stat player and all i really know is stacking as much survival as possible is working for me. Cheat death, beneficial effect, block, max HP, I’ve completely ignored any kind of damage modifier and I’m still coming out ontop. But I’d love for you to dig deeper into this with your kind of skills. Looking forward to your findings one day
@@Dieterpittroff Thank you for your kind words. :)
check out the prong, it offers more dps than dead keen. (if its just 10 seconds, dead keen will do more) anything above, the prong does more
check out also berserker eye and freedom of devotion, they offer better dps compared to seeping bile and followers burden
I hope this makes sense 🙏
Just to be clear if anyone else reads this it is for most people better to use Berserker’s Eye rather than Bile and it is also cheaper.
Berserker eye if you think about it is actually +19% damage and 2% crit
because rank 10 awakened berserker eye has +3% primary attack damage. This beats even follower burden, that's all just some input, sharing experience only hehe
as for the prong, i tested it vs dead keen with target having 3debuffs, even when dead keen is fully maximized, for some reason prong is still performing better (i suspect its because living skeletons means more damage, compared to dead skeletons)
It's also just more fun to have non stop skills, it becomes viable outworld too, and in raids, elder rift, long dungeon, you do explode skellies all the time, just my experience to share. ty ty
any tips for monks?
What your class and resonances?
@@billtodd2194 in the tomb video I dont launch my burst until 2nd leg dies
@@billtodd2194 also fahir is not the last boss :)
You can check this out for yourself when hitting test dummy and opening up your stats page to check your crit hit.
what paragon tree did you use to test fervent fang?
Are you sure it was not the extra resonance that increased the dmg of your summons a bit?
At what % do you start getting diminishing returns on your critical hit chance?
It seems like there actually is a diminushing return on chc. It is 76.6% not 82%
After minor testing there def seems to be some diminishing returns after 65% but not that much 🤷
Tested again just for the sake of it and fervent fang does not work with summons.
Am i the only person who doesn't think this is accurate?
there is now a dmg dummy you should use to verify findings
The chc should be 77% not 82% 🙏
