    What a Beautiful Mini, I cut my 14 year old teeth on Minis early 80s. At just 18 i had an Genuine 1275GT and life was great. My mate has been working on an R1 front Mounted Mini for over 3 years BUT he has parts from Japan, SUBBED/LIKED as i cannot even @ 51 now get enough of the old Classic Mini.

      It was for space constraints mate, I had to thin down the top so I could get the diff up higher that’s all

    That Quaife unit looks a lovely bit of kit. Would the drive sprocket go again if you refitted it upside down, so that the force on the teeth tried to pull them in the opposite direction - or is it not worth messing around with, now it's off?

    • @skidmores.garage
      @skidmores.garage ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hey buddy yer I agree it looks good inside, I didn’t expect it to look like that as Iv never opened one up. The sprocket is only about £60 so I’d just have another made up for me

  • @paulkemp4559
    @paulkemp4559 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Quaife diffs need a little grip from both wheels, if for instance you had one wheel on ice and the other in a dry road the diff would spin and no drive would go to the wheels, it would be a rare occupancy on the race track but if it was momentary it would a transient issue. I tickle of brake would cure it

    • @skidmores.garage
      @skidmores.garage ปีที่แล้ว +1

      She doesn’t spin up much at all being sun 200hp with big slicks to be honest.

    Hi, thank you for the video. I also have the same diff and mine seems to have locked up for some reason. I tried to open it up for inspection, but I found nothing abnormal. Could you please share the technical info about your diff ? I would be really helpful to me.

    With the tooth off the sprocket is there a tight spot in the chain??

    • @skidmores.garage
      @skidmores.garage ปีที่แล้ว +3

      The chain dose have a couple of tight spots just because they get worn out very fast in this car that’s why I’m trying to sores or design a drive box system

      i run a quaife and it was the chain slipping on the sprocket so a different chain is now on the car and its 100% better

  • @neilmchardy9061
    @neilmchardy9061 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Torsten diffs rely on the small gears pressing against the end plates to create friction to stop a wheel spinning. Here’s a thought. Is the molybdenum grease too slippery to generate the friction? Perhaps you need to use a different lubricant like an automatic gearbox uses? Just a thought. If I am correct you would be getting wheelspin.
    P.S. you shouldn’t use moly oils in synchro boxes as it cases the synchro hubs to baulk and have poor engagement. It’s necessary to use what’s called friction modifiers in the oil. Just my three penneth as in my trials car gearbox I use millers off road oil which is a moly added and adhesive oil. It’s difficult to change gear on the move but preserves my home made differential. Diffs get hammered to death in sporting trials.

    • @skidmores.garage
      @skidmores.garage ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Quaife told me it’s basically bearing grease like cv joint stuff and this is pretty clean and the viscosity is lovely as that’s the only maintenance Iv ever done topping it up

  • @fucksusanwojcicki
    @fucksusanwojcicki ปีที่แล้ว +1

    You're having issues because your car is too light and your motor doesn't make enough torque. You need to set the diff up as tight as humanly possible, even then it probably wont have a tight enough engagement. You shouldn't be using a helical LSD on that car anyway, a clutch type would be much better

    • @skidmores.garage
      @skidmores.garage ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I am inclined to a green mate. I’m in talks with quaife on one of there drive box system at the moment for the spaceframe build
