  • Jared's emergency endoscopy hospitalization video • 🏥 HOSPITALIZED AFTER E... First off, we want to thank you all for all of your prayers, kind messages and comments, and well-wishes that you have sent to both of us, especially Jared. We really love and appreciate your sweetness and kindness towards us. We lie in bed reading your comments and it means the world to us and has helped us tremendously!! Thank you, thank you! We hope that by sharing this new disease diagnosis that it'll help someone else out there experiencing the same issues. Eosinophilic esophagitis (e-o-sin-o-FILL-ik uh-sof-uh-JIE-tis) is a chronic immune system disease. With this disease, a type of white blood cell, called an eosinophil, builds up in the lining of the tube that connects your mouth to your stomach. This tube is also called the esophagus. This buildup, which is a reaction to foods, allergens or acid reflux, can inflame or injure the esophageal tissue. Damaged esophageal tissue can lead to difficulty swallowing or cause food to get stuck when you swallow.
Eosinophilic esophagitis has been identified only since the early '90s, but is now considered a major cause of digestive system illness. Research is ongoing and will likely lead to revisions in the diagnosis and treatment of eosinophilic esophagitis.

I am a GI dietitian who specializes in EoE in pediatrics. Definitely meet with your GI provider about medication options and reach out to a dietitian who could help you navigate food elimination trials properly. Sometimes medications are all you need though! Wishing you luck in this new health journey, although this can be very manageable!

15 years ago , I stopped eating dairy, gluten, gmo, grains, nightshades, and many other food groups.
I changed my "Diet" since 4 years ago and I have a list of foods, I follow.
Last 4 years, I woke up with a host of health issues, and not a day that goes by, I am researching
with my health issues . I been lucky where I can have an "EGD" test to keep up with my esophagus ,
my worry are Barrett's Disease and Esophageal Cancer .
I have Acid Reflux, GERD , Erosion Esophagus, Gastritis, Hiatal Hernia and Low Stomach Acid.
Yes, I have an GI doctor and I closely keep tracked of my health .
In the last 2 months, I have found out 20 people , family or friends who had Acid Reflux and one of them
have "EOE" . Having this keeps me aware to what's going on.
Plus, I knew of 2 other people who died from Esophageal Cancer , days apart , back in 2021 .

@@debbiec6216 I know what you’re going through. Sadly, my husband was diagnosed with cancer of the oesophagus, he passed three weeks later. He had been wrongly diagnosed for years. You are always told to be mindful regarding your health, but it doesn’t help if you have a doctor who is neglectful in your care. I would advise anyone going through anything similar to have a second opinion, just to be sure

I was diagnosed with Functional Neurological Disorder 4 years ago. At the time, it was considered a psychological disorder, which took 2 years to diagnose. Since then, it has been realized that it is actually in the same type of diseases as MS and Parkinson. It is so frustrating to be at the beginning of a disease. Just hang in there and take it one day at a time. You are so much stronger than you know! Sending continued prayers.

My husband has that too! He started taking Prilosec every day and an allergy (over the counter) med every day. He is doing great. You would never know he has anything wrong. I don’t think it is as scary as you are worried it will be. He eats anything he wants and has had no problems since his endoscopy they diagnosed it. The allergies that might affect it could be environmental and not food. That’s why the allergy pill is helping him plus the Prilosec helps the acid reflux which also effects it.

My daughter and husband have had these issues in the past. My daughter was diagnosed with EOE and “swallows” medication everyday. My husband had his esophagus stretched several years ago. I’m happy to say both are doing well and have not had issues in the past 5 years. You will be okay; just follow the doctor’s orders and rely on their guidance and all will work out just fine.

Hi, I was diagnosed with EoE 16 months ago (after 3 endoscopies with 12 biopsies); experienced symptoms for about 40 years. Things that have helped me: Keeping a detailed food journal noting any discomfort or changes in stomach or digestive system. Also noting what triggers an almost instant reaction (coughing, headache, hives, rash, itching, ...) or a longer term reaction (up to 2 weeks). I've been prescribed a proton inhibitor which has helped a lot; however, what has been the biggest help is identifying and avoiding the triggers. For me, it's a long term process and I have identified about 90 percent of my triggers. Good Luck, keep the faith!

I am so HAPPY you have been diagnosed, EOE is manageable. I’m a school nurse and have worked with several students with EOE. With you, because you’ve tested negative for many food allergies you will need to eliminate foods you react to and I’m thankful they have also given you a list of foods to avoid. One little guy I cared for always had an Epi-Pen with him just in case. If you get an Epi-Pen it is not heat tolerant so don’t toss one in your car, esp. in Florida heat! Praying you can learn to live with it! ☺️

I also have EoE and was diagnosed two years ago now. I have had to be dilated twice but I must say not every day is a bad day. Once managed I can almost forget I have it. They actually just told me after my second biopsy and dilation that mine is now in remission! Peanuts was also one of the allergies that I was told I have which I was shocked because I ate some sort of peanut product everyday but I truly believe that once I completely cut out peanuts that’s what really helped my EoE be managed. I also have really bad environmental allergies but take an allergy pill every day which helps. Omeprazole has also been a life saver. But I understand what you’re going through and it will get better and become less scary! Hang in there!❤

Please see a functional medicine doctor or nurse. As a nurse for 30 yrs, I’ve just taken a serious study of medicine this way in the last couple of years, we look at root causes versus just treating symptoms! Labs check histamine levels too!! Check out low histamine foods! Let me know if you’d like me to reach out privately. It’s really amazing to find out the reasons. There are reasons that traditional medicine doesn’t look at. I’ve had esophageal reflux and esophagus dilated twice too. I’ve choked on rice before. Big mistake chasing it with water. How scary for you. Blessings. 🙏🏻

Is the root cause of all this called Acid Reflux ?
I have Acid Reflux , Erosion Esophagus, GERD, Gastritis , Hiatal Hernia and Low stomach acid .
Is esophagus reflux close to acid reflux ? Thank you
I changed my diet 15 years ago , stopped eating dairy , gluten, grains, gmo, nightshades, Sugar,
      Sugar addictive's and some vegetables. I eat slowly ( for each bite , I eat , I'll count to 50 ) , I sleep
with an Wedge in my bed , I don't eat Fried, Spicy or Greasy foods, I don't drink soda, stopped that 15 years ago . I don't eat junk food either stopped that too. I try and sleep 8 hour a night ,
I keep up with my health issues daily , I do alot of research . Sure I see my GI doctor and I have an
"EGD " test every 6 months. I feel like I am missing something that I'm not suppose to do .

I'm a medical student and more and more everyday I've been seeing people talk about their rare diagnosis on youtube that in school they often describe and glance over. Thank you for sharing your story. Because of you I will absolutely be researching this more so that I can recognize it earlier in my future patients. Based on what I've seen, though it's rare, it's autoimmune so there are options for tx available to help reduce the autoimmune effects initially. Once you have explored those options given by your doc, something some folks have tried based on literature out there are clinical trials for new drugs which can help you and future people dx with your condition. Good luck on your journey!

@@debbiec6216 There are some topics that cover the biochemistry of disorders that develop from eating habits. We then talk about the treatment which includes the nutrition aspect. But is definitely not to the same level as if I were to get nutritionist certifications etc. My school is a DO school so we probably get more nutrition discussion because we have a more holistic approach compared to MD schools though I dont know that for sure.

I had my esophagus stretched because of GERD. That was nearly 10 years ago and haven't needed it since. I do take prilosec twice daily and I believe that keeps my esophagus open.
In the past 4 years, I have been diagnosed with 3 separate autoimmune diseases, one being Sjogren's disease. Dry mouth is a hallmark of that disease so I don't make enough saliva. I'd like to mention an analogy. A high percentage (probably over 90%) of childhood asthma is caused by an undiagnosed allergy to cow's milk. Those children are tested right away for milk allergy and usually it never indicates on any test. There are so many alternatives to cow's milk (all the delicious plant milks, for instance) and coconut yogurt, cashew yogurt and so on. Even if dear Jared needs to avoid beef / cow products for the rest of his life, there are just so many absolutely delicious alternatives. Keep strong. I am so happy you are home Jared! Not only do you have Brit and Finn cheering you on, but you have all of your followers sending you well wishes, prayers, and love. I was diagnosed with Barrett's esophagus three years ago, and I was relieved just to have a diagnosis! People thought I was crazy and the hospitals wouldn't believe me when I told them that something was wrong. I was in the emergency room numerous times with food boluses! The pain was so intense that I thought I was having a heart attack! I finally got my diagnosis from Johns Hopkins in Maryland. Love, prayers, and good vibes from Pennsylvania.

My thoughts and prayers are with you . I hope you are doing well .
I know your feeling about going to the hospital "many" times. In the last 4 years, I been to the hospitals,
more than 12 times. My chest would hurt, I thought it was an heart attack , they would test me, and found out , I was having acid reflux pain .
My biggest concern is Barrett's Disease , I don't know what to expect from it .
I have an "EGD" test every 6 months . I don't know what else to do. I'll ask question to the GI doctor
but he won't answer my question . If you have any suggestions, I sure would appreciate it .
I have Acid Reflux , GERD, Gastritis, Hiatal Hernia, Erosion Esophagus and Low Stomach Acid .
      Thank you, Debbie

I had a similar issues for years. Finally we did a food allergy path. Started with one food for about a week anything just chicken. Then slowly over 3 or four days added new food one at a time. Once a food was identified as ok I stopped eating that and moved on to the next. Slowly identifying foods that caused an issue with swallowing. Then groups of the good foods where put together and tested for a few days to see what worked. this took about a year but was well worth it and not that big a deal. Many years later I was diagnosed and had surgery for a hiatal hernia that the Doctors thought was caused by food allergies. So it's a journey. But it was actually fun and ver satisfying to figure out how to eat safely and feel better. Oh and I had the esophagus stretched as well no tear but its sore for a couple of weeks but helped a lot.

I have this, and I've had my esophagus stretched. Rice is actually one of the foods that actually gets stuck frequently, and it hurts so bad until it passes (I don't eat rice very often because of this). I have GERD, too. It is one of those things you'll need to find which foods are your "trigger" foods. I found out after this happened to me the first time that I have several second cousins who have this same issue. I have a great gastro doctor who has taken great care of me over the years, so be sure you have a great doctor, and they will help you along this journey. Having your esophagus tear is very scary, so concentrate on healing first, then work on possible lifestyle changes to help keep things in check. I'm keeping you in my prayers during this time.

I just want to say I used to work for a rheumatologist, and you may want to look into one to see if a connective tissue disorder (which eoe is highly likely with ppl with connective tissue disorders). So glad you’re doing better Jared❣️ Despite your esophagus tearing due to the surgery, I’d like to think the chicken getting lodged in your esophagus was a blessing in disguise, cause that made the doctor do the biopsy, and now knowing you have EOE I think in hindsight it saved your life going forward❣️ Hugs to you and Britt.🫂🙂

I just left a comment on your video where you went to the ER and you being admitted. It’s great to know it’s not cancer but that definitely has to be very scary. Also as an fyi, if you’re ever in the hospital again and you don’t feel ready to go home, just talk to the doctor and tell them how you feel. I’ve been there and I just told them I didn’t think I was ready and in your specific situation, that could be the difference between life and death. Sending prayers and lots of love. I was diagnosed last May with EoE. One of the scariest things thinking I was choking but was food stuck in my esophagus and had to travel an hour to have surgery to remove the food. Keeping the acid reflux down has been the best thing so far. Don’t eat close to bedtime. I went through all the food allergy testing and nothing showed up. Smaller bites is best as well! Pork or many protein based foods I have the hardest time with. Oddly carbonated drinks helps when pushing food down. I just take double/triple time to eat compared to everyone else as to not have it happen again. Eggs is also a big trigger for people and I rarely have them now just in case!

Sweet Jared, I will put your name on the prayer list at my church in the morning. Lean on Britty, she's a good, strong woman. Your love and genuine kindness you show one another, is so endearing. My husband and I will be married 25 years this year and I have a very serious genetic chronic illness that has been a challenge since 2004. It made it impossible for us to have children. Biological or otherwise. We have weathered it all by being kind to one another and having grace for things beyond our control. We understand a scary diagnosis, we understand the loss of ability to have biological child and we understand having only one another to depend and lean on. Stay positive, live in gratitude and leave the rest to God. Also, it is important to learn everything there is to know about your condition. You must be your own best advocate. I love you both so much, even though we've never met. Love to sweet Finn too 🙏✌️❤️🇨🇦 You've got this!!

Brittney I totally understand and agree with you it’s hard to watch your loved one’s go through things like this. Both sides are hard. Lots of prayers and love being sent your ways.
