  • Hints and useful information for anyone contemplating building a circuit using a conventional microprocessor device, especisally the Zilog Z80. Made in a short series of videos, this is the first one and discusses what processor to use, what type of wiring to consider, plus suggested and essential features of the project.

This reminds me so much of a computer a friend of mine built early 80ies. Also a Z80 and hand wired. My contribution was owning a soldering iron and proof reading the hex machine code for the monitor program :D

Ah yes. The days of REAL computers :-) This was build about a year after the release of the Z80. I only worked with the old 8080 before that. At least one could use all of the standard op-codes from that processor on the Z80. Yes, those times were fun - and still can be today!

Liked and shared with an I.T. recently retired from H.S. This was his meat and potatoes, once upon a time.
    Here's an anecdote.
He gave me a 5.25" floppy with some basic editing and game apps for a cast off Telecheck Machine my office cleaning girlfriend had passed along. That same buddy programmed my 286/88 IBM, worked together with another buddy to craft my 386 and its P90 clone upgrade from parts laying around their shops.
It's 40 years on since that and I've written 10,000,000 words in novels, posted hundreds of blogs and vlogs and a hundred original songs to YT. Now it's 2022 and I found your post, so I sent it to him. Bet he gets a kick out of it. Hope he does. He's a big reason I'm fulfilled as an artist.
