Thank you for sharing your perspective of the Meet outfits for the historical dolls! I prefer the quality and accuracy of Pleasant Company (1986-1999) and early American Girl (2000-2010). I understand the intention of renaming the category and brightening up the clothes for the Beforever line to up the sales. The brighter colors and cheaper fabrics are not my thing. I do like Beforever Addy’s blue dress, Rebecca’s purple outfit and Nanea’s Meet Outfit.
I do like Beforever Molly’s outfit. It would probably go in my middle row of outfits I like but don’t pay a lot of attention to. I have 3 mini Mollys in the original Meet outfits. If I buy another one, it would be in the Beforever outfit.
I spent my childhood in the 1970’s and have always lived in the Southwest. Ivy’s dropped turtleneck shirt was a popular style It is a cowl neckline. There is a photo of me around 10 years old with a cowl neck shirt and gauchos! Josefina’s camisa (long top) and skirts were the fashion influence of the Spaniards claiming the northern territories of the Southwest. Josefina’s empire waisted dresses would have been the fashion influence of the Americans coming to Santa Fe for trade after 1821 and the Santa Fe Trail.

The quality for dolls like Josefina went downhill as they retired the majority of her collection. I agree that Julie’s Beforever Meet outfit is not representative of the time period. Kit’s Beforever Meet outfit also falls in the category of leaving an impression of the 1930’s while not being historically accurate as her original Meet outfit was. These colorful changes were meant to create a renewed interest in these dolls and increase sales. They were not based on educational accuracy. They did do a better job with Maryellen and Nanea as new dolls released during the Beforever time period. And as I stated, I like Addy’s Beforever dress. It maintained some quality and detail. Molly was discontinued and then brought back in her new Meet outfit (I believe it was originally through Costco). Courtney, Claudie, and the Hoffman twins are post-Beforever. With the post 1980’s dolls they are also targeting sales for the people with the money who were alive to remember these time periods.
I enjoyed this video! I was waiting for Emily to be in your top list because she has such a cute meet outfit, but I think you missed her! I also love Molly's BeForever meet outfit (except for the thick glasses). I was lucky enough to grab it while they were selling it briefly as a separate outfit in the sale section. I think Felicity's BF meet would have been better if they had actually made it into separate pieces so it could look like proper layers, but that yellow is ghastly. Marie-Grace's meet is my least favorite because not only is it hideous looking, but the fabric is like the material from a parachute! I hate it! I also obsess over Rebecca's purple shoes. I'm like, do I need to buy her or do I just want the purple shoes?

You know I love my Felicity and Caroline... but yes, Caroline's is "too pink", but her higher dress is appropriate for younger girls and it would get longer and even have a train for fancy occasions. Her collection I drool over though and have gotten a dress made for her that I love too. Regency/Jane Austen id my favorite era to wear personally. Maryellen I just am obsessed with. Rebecca I love too, but not my top tier like Felicity and Caroline.
Caroline's work dress and birthday dress are really nice. We used to have them both but parted with them when we weren't really using them. I've mildly regretted it a few times but mostly I'm glad someone who loves them is probably getting much more wear out of them than we were.
Kit does have sooo many outfits, which makes sense from a selling stuff perspective- and I love and want basically every outfit they made for her- but in-universe it certainly doesn’t track. And thank you, Molly beforever meet defense club! It’s such a cute outfit. I think a lot of people who are really into Molly just don’t like that it’s a different outfit, but I’m a bit of a Molly hater so it doesn’t bother me, and it looks adorable on Emily who I do love 😂.
This was a very interesting topic. And got me thinking about how I would rank them. I am a huge Samantha fan, agree that her Beforever meet is not accurate. The style of her historical meet is accurate to her time, I like it but wonder if a solid color would have been better. Kit and Samantha I think have the largest wardrobes possibly because they were both very popular and sold well. A girl in Kit's time may have had a fair amount of clothes, but she likely would not have gotten much that was new. And as time progressed during the depression those dresses would have tended to get shorter as she grew and new clothes weren't in the budget. I haven't seen Molly's Beforever outfit that much and I do like it better than her historical. I am with you about that sweater, it is so cute. As for Julie, being in my teens in the 70's I thought the styles were cool then but I shake my head now and cringe Lol. Addy's historical meet is in a color that was very common at the time, it's called a double pink. There are a lot of Civil War reproduction fabrics out now that use that color. I love it.
I think my absolute favorite outfits out of these (equal, not ranked) are Josefina (meet), Maryellen, and Kaya. I think I agree with 2/3 of your worst choices! I know Julie's beforever outfit is very costume-y and not historically very accurate... but I still kind of love it. Addy's meet dress and Mollie's Beforever dress are in my top 10. My other top 10's are Josefina's beforever, Rebecca's meet, Claudie's, Melody's, and Nikki's... I think. I love a lot of them. 😅
I'm never gonna *love* Julie's BeForever meet, but I will say that with the exception of her jeans, I could use all the elements of it in other outfits. So not bad mix and match potential.
My Addy, Rebecca and Julie came in the BeforeEver outfits I love Addy's and Rebeccas but Julie's not so much. i hope to have the original meets someday.
My top three are easily 1) Historical Julie, 2)nicki and 3)Caroline Bottom 3 are 1)beforever Samantha, 2)Cecile (I hate how the satin fabric looks after it’s been played with, it’s so easily ruined) and 3) beforever kit. I actually don’t mind beforever felicity, I think the shape is not too wild for a panier era gown. Samantha’s is just such a down grade history wise, so it bums me out to see it. I love the turn of the century fashion especially children’s wear. It’s like you took Nellie’s outfit and made it pink and modern 😭
