I was blessed to see Thomas Whitfield live in concert in Kansas City a few months before his death. On stage he was excellent of course!! But then I saw him behind the stage. He looked so very tired - actually worn out. He left us too soon!! All of my choirs in the 1980's did his music. Such a great influence on my music ministry.
Yes he was. There was an elderly lady in my town name Pearl Barnes, she could play a piano and she did a lot if his songs. She was a trained musician from Julliard. And she had to b in her late 60s when Whitfield's music came out. She could play all of them very close to his style. The church would b packed on the Sunday's she played. She too has gone to b with God in 2002 she died she was in her late 80s and was still playing. I believe she just died in her sleep.
Funny to watch people back then just sit and watch and no response and even some walk out while he's singing.... And today if that song comes on its a standing room only or people laid in the floor in the spirit...smh
tmz3000 , that's an interesting point. What doesn't translate in one generation, tends to set another generation free! I grew up listening to Thomas Whitfield, and his impact is timeless!

Sure don’t! Gospel music just isn’t what it used to be!
