In this video I show you how to play Ed's rippin' 1976 live solo in ZZ Top's Beer Drinkers and Hell Raisers. I Originally heard it on TH-cam on the Roots compilation. It's from a soundboard recording from a performance in Norwalk CA that you can find on TH-cam.
If you haven't checked out any of these early recordings, I highly recommend that you do. Ed's playing is inspired, fiery and muscular. His plexi is screaming too.

This is remarkable. Ed’s early days playing style is almost never discussed beyond ‘they were a cover band’. Great work!
Right. I thought they had to play lame Top 40 sets just to get gigs, not "Man on the Silver Mtn." I would see early pics of Ed playing a Les Paul or a V and wonder what he sounded like then. Now we can hear some of it--and he ripped!
Thank you! That means a lot!
They also covered "Tush" but the audio quality is pretty bad from what I remember.
Are you a fan of White Lion? Vito Bratta was another phenomenal player.
This Tush sounds pretty good:

Ed quotes T. Iommi's Fairies wear Boots solo in the second solo.
White Lion was happening in the late 80s. I was more into G N' R at that point, and Soundgarden was right around the corner.
