Mercedes C230 Sport 6-Speed M272 - Horrible Exhaust Mod

  • This is a 2007 Mercedes C230 with the exhaust cut off. The engine sounds excellent, but don't do this. Just get a real exhaust system, or a performance muffler at least.
    MODS:
    -82mm throttle body
    -SLK350 Sport Composite intake manifold
    -K&N drop-ins
    -OETuning Stage 1
    Lots of suspension

    I did a muffler delete and got tips welded on, it looked good but was loud when I accelerated normally. I put the stock muffler back on until I got put my megan exhaust on it.

      If the engine is M272 or m274 ,276 you can install expipe and its not expensive like others

    Cool video. I want to get a C230 or an SLK230 myself, preferably a manual. But I wouldn't mind an auto. Maybe if I get the V6 C230 I'll put just a muffler and an intake on it for sound. But if I get the C230 Kompressor or the SLK230 I'm leaving the exhaust stock because then it'll sound like garbage if it's loud.

      Had a 4cyl C230 years before this one and left it bone stock. Great cars, just lacking some of the features the late sport models had. The autos are totally liveable and loveable, but there is that little bit of rareness that goes with a manual Benz.

    I had the chance to drive a C320 cupe from 2003 that has a M112 3.2L manual with a akrapovic exaust. that thing is sweat sweat sweat, the downshifts sound so deep. sadly the engine was at the end of its life, burning oil so its sitting now parked in a garage waiting for a rebuild (450 000km, the prev owner really did drive it)

      Love the C320 Coupes with a manual! Very very rare around these parts, I've only ever seen two for sale in the past.
      Just picked up another fun M272 car. You'll see it posted here soon

    how’s the support for the c230? looking at one currently in perfect shape, stock, but i’m curious as to how the support is and what all can be done for build around the 400whp range

    • @danny_playswithcars
      @danny_playswithcars  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      If that's what you're targeting, you won't be happy with any of the W203 non-AMGs. The M112 is stout but a bit antiquated at this point, the M271 shakes at merely the suggestion of overboosting the supercharger, and the M272 will not tolerate boost. If you can find a late-model C350 with the 3.5 M272, you'll have a pretty quick car, but they're rare with an auto and one-of-a-handful with a manual.
      If 400 or anything close is your number, you're going to want a C32 with it's supercharged M112 or a C55 with the M113. Neither make 400, but are close enough that they can be massaged into the vicinity. The C55 will likely do so more reliably, given it will have less issues with heat management.
      Alternatively, I'd propose buying a W209-chassis. It's the same footprint as the W203 (widened a bit, but even uses the same struts/suspension parts as the car in the video above), but you can get it with a 5.0L M113 at 300hp in the CLK500, mid-300s with the M113 in the CLK55, or 380ish in the late-model CLK550 with its M273. Personally, I find the M273 CLK550 to be the best all-around performance bargain out there.
      Hope this helps!

    How does the rest of the installation went, like maf sensors, injectors, airbox, and how does it feel now?

    • @danny_playswithcars
      @danny_playswithcars  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The maf and airbox were super easy, all just unclips and pops off very easily. Injectors were also easy, as I pulled the entire fuel rail off of the old manifold (just unplug the injector pigtails and disconnect the fuel pressure hose and it all pops straight off) and just popped in straight into the new one. Be careful to either lube your injector seals before you put the rail back in, or buy new injector seals if your old ones are questionable; it's annoying to get to the rail, so if a seal tears and you have to get back in there you'll be unhappy. The hardest part of the swap is taking everything apart, because there's a lot to get out of the way before the Mani comes out.
      The car drives great. With this muffler delete, the car is definitely a bit slower with the decreased backpressure. Putting on a new muffler as soon as I go through my evap system to track down the check engine light seen in this video. Otherwise, runs well and it screams.
      Love your car. Looks fantastic

      @@danny_playswithcars thank you for all the information! I replace my intake manifold like w months ago and you are right there is alot to move out of the way to get it out but it's not hard, at least for me it was a fun project replacing the manifold and upgrading the lever flaps with the aluminum ones jaja
      I like what you doing to yours and i can't wait to see it all put together without any issues, i was just wondering if you had to do any mods to fit the maf senskr and airbox since the throttle body is bigger than the oem, but you just use the oem maf sensor and airbox that came stock with your car right?

    • @danny_playswithcars
      @danny_playswithcars  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Low end actually gained a bit. It lost midrange, which I think can be remedied if I tune it on a dyno a bit, but gained a ton of top end.

    Feel stupid saying it, but I didn't think the states got these with a 6mt. My sister has one but with the 7g. I love the size/feel of that chassis. Probably great as a manual

    • @danny_playswithcars
      @danny_playswithcars  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Coming to you live from Connecticut! They're out there with the 6MT, just a bit more rare. You can find them with the 1.8L, this 2.5L, and even in the 07 C350 with the 3.5L if you're insanely lucky. Then the W204 chassis had a ton of manuals sold.
      Best part is, nobody really knows they're out there. So they're cheap!

    • @RothBeyondTheGrave
      @RothBeyondTheGrave 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@danny_playswithcars very true, people aren't really shopping for those with a 6 speed the way the they are for e9X's or something. I knew they were around, but figured like most things the states got like 3 of them & the rest went to everyone else hahah
      I have a c207 chassis (2010 e350 coupe) w/ the 3.5L which I'm not sure had a 6 speed w/ the m272 but the smaller e250 diesels did which the states never got

    i deleted mufflers on a w204 c350 2008 model. it sounds good outside the car and it's not obnoxiously loud. However inside of the car it sounds absolutely fucking terrible. Inside the car the sound is very monotone and it's basically always droning, even at very low rpm's. I also can't hear the engine anymore and it sucks because i used to love hearing it. Will100% either put the original mufflers back on or i will replace those with some aftermarket ones that wont break the budget.

      The Megan Racing MDT dual tip I had on this car afterwards (in a couple of other videos) was exactly what it needed to smooth the tone, make it a daily again and still sound good. You may struggle to fit it on both sides though. I was lucky to only have a single exit so a dual tip was an easy fit
