Since City were bought United and City have spent about the same. United hadn't spent the most in the 90's or 00's apart from a few seasons. City even spent more than United one season in the 90's and got relegated.
Now the gulf between them is huge, but the argument isn't about whoever spent more should be winning, the argument is about who spent legitimately.
City are being accused of spending more than they were allowed to, so the figure we think we know (that is comparable to United's spending) could actually be much, much higher. The problem is that we may never know because City have probably spent the same amount on lawyers to make sure they can either cover it up or make it difficult to find out.

If we were to have a boxing match, and you are a better fighter, you have a better coach, better training facilities, better promoter to make more money, but you have also taken illegal substances and steroids to increase your stamina and strength for the fight and you end up beating me like expected, did you not still cheat? When you use 'net spend' it's an inaccurate gauge for a few reasons. For example Man City spent huge amounts of money before pep came and had accumulated numerous assets that post peps arrival they could sell and thus heavily reduce their 'net spend'. Arsenal on the other hand have sold extremely poorly which impacts heavily on there net spend, but if you look 'gross spend' or what was 'actually' spent in the last 10 years Man City have spent nearly double what Arsenal have spent

Let's also bring up Pep stars after City. Sterling went to Chelsea, with no impact. Gundogan went to Barcelona and flopped. Zinschenko and Gabriel Jesus went to arsenal, no impact. @@123duelist to a point I agree to some of the points you raised but you did not put context into it.
Messi was washed at PSG without a doubt, he doesn't count, ko one wanted him. Neymar and Mbappe, though beefing, drove PSG to UCL final but lost to Bayern. That's still commendable.
AND - this I cannot emphasize enough - PSG plays in the farmers league. The standards don't compare to say EPL, La Liga, Serie A, Bundesliga.

Also united may have spent a lot of money and done terribly but they also spent that much without allegations of 115 charges…. Also you spent 300 million in your second season like what are we talking about. Pep has spent crazy amounts it’s wild. This is why everyone is turning on city it’s obvious they weren’t deducted points because they have money😂 an investigation started 5 years ago and we are only just in 2025 getting the start of a trial mainly because nothing can be done if city don’t communicate… the prem don’t want city to be deducted and seen as frauds obviously because the amount of money they pull in from city. The fact is every other top 5 club doesn’t have these accusations. Like the other managers spend modest amounts if you look at arteta and klopp they are spending maybe on average 30-40 million a signing with an occasional player being 60m+ then if you see city their whole bench and reserves are worth more than most teams they have hundreds of millions of players sitting chilling tell me how they could afford this 😂 yes they have had huge success but they wouldn’t of been able to have this much to buy everyone they have bought

-Why didn't you stay in Barcelona then?
-All the club's that you mentioned got it at times when there was no FFP. Stopped getting it when FFP was introduced. Yourselves, are still under investigation, though I'm not very optimistic about it. I mean, you managed to get away from UEFA.
-And you forgot Liverpool, who got it by spending much, much, much less than each single one of you(those you mentioned, including your club of course).

Hatred is blindfolding. Why not deal with the facts that all these other clubs spent more with almost nothing to show for it. A kid knows that has nothing to do with 115 charges vs City.
Let the accusers of City do their work. Let the clubs who spent more than City go do their homework as to why money still couldn't get them anywhere.

Imagine saying "Why don't u stay at Barca then" as if it's not a childish argument. Or why doesn't he have the right to leave any club anytime he wishes? U see why that stmt is meaningless, n only meaningful if the driving force is nothing but the fact u can't cope with his success?

Spent more money in the last 5 years??? so what about the other 5 before that then?
so lets look at the context...peps man city hyjacked every top clubs "A" Signings forcing these clubs to spend more. there were a few seasons where he had a bench which was basically a second football club. pep is a very good manager but he will never be the greatest till he can actually build a squad from the ground up.

i respect him and his players they're not the cheats here. its the owners flaunting the rules, the fa and uefa not punishing them and the media not covering any of it properly. mostly it's whatever's going on between them and PGMOL that means they get very few bad decisions against them while their rivals get hobbled by refs and var every opportunity. yes they've been the best team and they should be winning most of the titles but 4 in a row?!? 6 out of the last 7? come on they're not that far clear that was only possible with some very
"lucky" decisions by a few very very dodgy refs. it's been close between city, liverpool and now arsenal but paul tierney howard webb and co have robbed us of a competitive league.

The difference is that Pep inherited a strong side with Aguero, David Silva, KDB, Sterling, Kompany, etc already there. Even then he had to spend £300m to bring Man City to title winners. Once you have a strong team, there's less need for you to spend. Arsenal and Man Utd were both dreadful five years ago (one of them still is) so they had to spend more.

PSG had Mbappe, Neymar and Messi, no UCL. The players that leave City become average. Sterling at Chelsea average, Gundogan at Barcelona average. Gabriel Jesus and Zinschenko, at Arsenal average. Average, average, average. It's Pep that makes all the difference. If Pep went to PSG, I sincerely think PSG would have the ability to get them the UCL with average players.
