As a Brazilian who's never lived anywhere else, I'm actually quite impressed with how intact her Portuguese is, considering she only lived in Brazil for three years! Only slightly accented in some words, and even then, barely noticeable.
I'm mozambican and I lived outside my home country for most of my life so I can assure you that if the parents make it a rule to speak Portuguese in the house its not hard at all

as a weird (totally amateur) linguistics person I am sitting here entranced by the cognates between Brazilian Portuguese and Mexican Spanish (the dialect I'm most familiar with) and suddenly understanding why I've always read that Portuguese speakers can understand Spanish much better than Spanish speakers can understand Portuguese
Language is so fascinating, the more you learn the more you start to experience these moments of “aha!” In everyday life! Also helps you communicate with foreign language speakers in general
As a native Spanish speaker from a country next to Brazil I can safely say i understand (Brazilian) Portuguese only a little and mostly when it's written. She was right, it's a bit more musical than Spanish but it is similar enough, so is Italian and Valencian. I don't know about Portuguese from Portugal though
@Gaby Fernandez apart from accent and some words, it's all the same. In fact, there is a agreement between all Portuguese speaking countries to make the gramatics equal in every country.
There's no such thing as a Mexican Spanish dialect, there's only one language Spanish, it's pretty much the same everywhere with little differences, the only thing that changes is slang the same way American and British English do

I speak English, Spanish and French-Portuguese definitely is a very similar to a mix of Spanish/French. I understood 90% except the accent made it more difficult 🙂
That's cool, I'm from Brazil and I understand like 98% of Spanish from Argentina and even Spain (if its spoken a bit slowly), however, I can't speak much.
I think since they already had Korean as asian language before, they should use some Slavic languages, as they are the furthest away from English as well. Czech, Slovakian, or Polish, majority of our words are not even similar to words from other languages at all.
