    crabs will be more territorial in smaller tanks so that's probably why one of your crabs is not very active

    I like seeing a new type of tank as a fiddler crab owner myself. Mine has mostly sand and a little water, I like how your’s is all water but I would recommend keeping a lot of sand out of the water cause fiddler crabs dig holes in sand and we don’t want them to drown. Just a suggestion

    My crabs did the same thing but I introduced them to a snail and some ghost shrimp and you could totally tell a difference 🦀 is out a little more 🦀

    you should have more shallow water and 5O% land (make the sand deep so they can bury themselves

      Hes not an expert so he doesn't know I have four crabs and I put mud in the tank so they can burro in it and brackish water and some rocks and stuff for it to chill on

    Check out the underwater crab habitats that I have for my crabs.
    I have to make sure the top of the tank is more secure with under water the underwater habitats but I don’t have to worry about cleaning the water line.
    Make sure to give them places to hide and places to for the males to perch and show off.

    I think a sponge filter would have been a better option as they can graze on it. You should also consider adding more land, like mopani or river wood if you have multiple males, it just lessens the competition for land. Nice vid btw

    • @ChewysBro
      @ChewysBro  6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Due to the low water level a sponge filter wouldn’t work well, if I still had this tank I would definitely consider adding some wood!

    • @thecrabhab1115
      @thecrabhab1115 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      A sponge on the intake also gives them a place to graze... or you can throw in some moss balls.
      I would definitely add drift wood.
      Make sure you place it so they have places to hide.
      It may be a little frustrating for them to hide a lot but they it keep them happy.

    Thanks for this video! I'm interested in Fiddler crabs at PetSmart/Petco and omg, they're the cutest little things. However, I do have a question about the filter. I recently had a black moor but he passed and since I have the 10 gallon tank with its pump that uses PF-S filters, etc...would it work the same for filtration? I have decorations but do need the sand which isn't an issue and how about tank changes? How does that work?

    For the fiddler crabs, is it legal to just catch some and keep them? Anyone have any success breeding them? How much room do they need out of the water - it doesn't look like they have a whole lot in that tank. Do you really need the light at all if your temperature is ok. I live in SW Florida and fiddlers live here naturally so I don't see why they would not be able to deal with the light and temperature on my lanai, which is outdoors.

    hi, I was watching your video,
    I F by chance you are just pouring your crabs or fish in ...
    you should allow the bags with the fish or whatever just sit in the water, for maybe 20 min or so and then little by little add to your water.
    Other wise they can go into shock.
    Just letting you know.
    Great video by the way !

    Decent set up overall, but i would say a larger land area is better, really only 1/3 of the tank needs to be water as they eat and live mostley on land and really only use water for birth and moulting.

    What sand did you use in your tank?

    • @ChewysBro
      @ChewysBro  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Petco’s brand sand beaches I had some extra on hand. You can always use pool filter sand though.

    • @thecrabhab1115
      @thecrabhab1115 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Make sure not to allow your sand to be more than 2 inches thick.
      You run the risk of carbon dioxide build up and stirring it may poison the tank inhabitants.
      This is why I went with a finer gravel rather then sand.
      I have some areas 4 to 5 inches thick.
