The neoprene gasket was missing in my two burner 3000 version... So I visited my local diving shop and got myself a piece of nice and spongy neoprene rubber (which these people use to make diving suits with) A piece large enough to cut 8 of those seals from cost me about 15 euros... I still am missing the flame diverters on top but I find the stove works fine without them... I have been using the stove for about 2 years now and I find (after the tanks are "empty") I have to put the tanks on top of one of the radiators in the house or leave them in the sun since I notice some water collecting inside the fibreglass/rockwool filling. Most ethanol fuel contains a lot of water which builds up over time. Nowadays I use so called molecular sieves to remove the water from the 96 % (or so) ethanol available in local shops (which is rather cheap I find at 1.80 euros per liter) The sieves are ceramic pellets looking like artificial fertilizer pellets and the work by absorbing water molecules into their pores but repelling the much larger ethanol molecules. After the sieves have been sitting in the ethanol/water mix the water has been absorbed by the pellets and I can cant off the almost 100% ethanol. The pellets are able to remove about 20-25% of their dry weight in water which means I can dry about 7 or so liters of 95% ethanol with 2 kg of the sieves... The removed water is great because the fuel burn better and hotter...
No problem with water buildup here in Western Australia first day of spring and 41 degrees Celsius in the shade the Methylated spirits (ethanol) here has an additive to stop you drinking it but it doesn't burn as cleanly as the stuff I bought in England that was a pink colour
If you read the filling instructions you should notice the slight dent in the mesh in the top of the fuel tank (also lovingly called the landmine) This dent is used as a gauge to show you when the tank is full...if fuel is pooling in the dent when the tank is tilled to the side the dent is at the tank is considered full...
Origo makes some brilliant stoves. I've had one like the one in this vid on a sailboat, years ago. Recently I bought the Origo Heat Pal 5100 which operates the same way, but it comes with a diffuser lid that turns it into a very effective space heater as well as a cook stove. I am experimenting with different types of fuel now. It would be interesting to see comments from people who have tried different kinds and brands of alcohol fuels. Thanks for this review!
In Australia we call it Methylated Spirits or Meths for short When I was in the United Kingdom they called it pink paraffin as it was tinted pink The Meths we get in Australia has an additives to stop you drinking it but it leaves soot on then pots if that bothers you can add 5% water and it burns a lot cleaner
@@DjangoLionheart Hey Greg, I know this is a late reply but you can use the methanol for alcohol fireplaces. It tends to be cheaper and does not soot like methylated spirits does. Of course you can add a little water however but this will also decrease the BTU rating of the fuel.
When it comes to those butane propane canisters keep in mind you can easily refill them with propane I live in Texas and we regularly take our large 250 gallon propane tank that we use to heat our home and refill our 20 lb propane tanks for our gas grills We then use our 20 lb propane tanks to refill our 1 lb propane cylinders and our butane propane canisters for camping All the adapters for easily available on Amazon which means there's no reason to spend so much money for propane
Hi Mike how is the weather in Texas it makes the news Down under in Australia yesterday it was 115F here?I refill my small cylinders at home using 8.5kg/20 pound cylinders they cost about $15US in Perth our capital of Western Australia. But when you go bush as we say it remote prices are expensive the distance and lack of population Western Australia is about four times bigger than Texas & we have about two million people most of them in a corner of the southwest.the more remote you go the higher the prices and some places do a fair bit of price gouging a bottle of orange juice that costs $4 in Perth cost $12 in the north
You can also refill them using butane lighter refill with no adaptor. Just stick the nozzle in and hold down. Keep in mind butane without propane won't work in colder climates but probably not an issue for you guys
There’s approx 2kg of gas in a 2kg gas bottle. I can pretty much guarantee that as a chemical engineer. If not, you’re either getting ripped off with a half fill or your gas bottle is faulty.
Hi lots of things can and do go wrong in Australia the old 9KG BBQ bottle a favourite on caravans now have stickers on saying 8.5KG a lot of people complaining about short fills. The gas cylinders have a 80% capacity and they need that for safety in Australia our bottled gas is LPG weight 510 grams to a litre a 8.5KG cylinder should have 16.7 litres here LPG used in cars sells for about 90cents AU a litre so that fill would cost about $15. In the city we pay around $30 but out bush it can cost $50 plus a little upsetting when the same tankers fills both tanks. Lastly the cylinder is filled via the outlet and the excess air is vented out via a bleed screw that has a tube set at the desired liquid gas level. The filler is supposed to fill till liquid gas comes out of the bleed screw then stop filling and vent till just gas comes out to set level. Due to waves in the liquid gas they are supposed to wait but don't often bother so you get a short and very expensive fill up regards Mike
When I open , the fuel tank stays connect to the top metal form factor Couod it be just in opening wrong or couod it be worse like some sort of situation where the Too center of fuel tank made of different metal and melded (connected to the area that contains heat from frame - that circular darker metal
The fuel tank should stay in the base it’s springs help it to seal to the top my thoughts 💭 are it was closed when hot 🥵 and the sealing gasket that prevents evaporation of the meths has melted or a spillage from a pan over flowing has stuck the two parts together
you are correct with the proper filling technique personally I wait till the flame slows down and then put in a new one litre bottle, it a great stove regards Mike
They have been discontinued seems to be a few around new old stock ? from some sellers I think some marine versions came the pot supports for boats I havre seen them for sale on eBay happy hunting Mike
Seriously considering this even with a price tag of more than $300US as I am trying to minimize the propane in my camper and really only need one burner for boiling water for coffee or the occasional pot of stew. Apparently the two burner variety is no longer even being made.
I have never put more than one litre in the tank as that's the size of the bottles I buy, how long it would burn depends on how high you have the stove on and air temperature. As a guide for two people a litre sees us through a weekend of camp cooking and for me solo close to a week cheap cooking for $3.50 a bottle regards mike
It will be a lot easier to clean with the pot stand off, some people cut a hole in some foil and make a drip tray for the top of the stove I just wipe mine down before stuff goes hard regards mike
@@AquaMarine1000 I will keep my eyes open for you is it only a 1500 one you want and not a 3000 stove ? I saw one a 3000 at a yacht wreckers some time ago
I just got a sailboat with this stove in it. Thanks for sharing, much better than reading through a manual.
Its a shame they have stopped making them simple robust and safer than LPG in boats
Ive had mine five to six years but now glad more instructions to be learned
