Yes thank you for this! My professor had a link to another one on TH-cam but got taken down due to violence???? Anyways, I also appreciate you posting the link to the transcript. I am currently writing about a comic strip created by vic Lockman and his portrayal of black South Africans.

I love lectures you need to hear at least twice to grasp. Really makes my day.
Should be mandatory for all of the German rightwingers

Hall’s main thesis seems to be that race is predominantly a linguistic construct, secondarily a visual/material one, and only thirdly a genetic one because of the undeniable fact that there is more variability within a “race” than between them.
Of course there’s a lot more to it, especially as concerns data based reasoning for allocating public funding for social services to genetically specific communities.

You think only Germans need it? You have missed the message - watch it a third time.

It makes me so mad to see people asleep in the audience

Same here. Which raises the question what is their relationship to the subject of discussion

Now I finally have something to link to those insufferable people who argue race determines intelligence. It’s sad that I come across so many people that just outright say it that way but maybe this lecture will click for 1 or 2 of them, lol

How would you describe a floating signifier?

a sign or symbol that is not anchored to any fixed referent (as per semantic representationalism) or intrinsic meaning (as per essentialism)

The definition of the word “gumption” should just feature a picture of this guy in the dictionary.
