I Bought The BEST SS Chevrolet EVER From Copart!

- The SS (Super Sport) name has a long and storied heritage with Chevrolet. From all the way back in the 60's, the SS name signified the best performance Chevrolet had to offer. Including the Camaro, Nova, Impala, and Monte Carlo to name a few. This means that giving a Chevrolet sedan the moniker "SS," is a pretty big deal.
The Chevrolet SS sedan embodies all the usual Super Sport qualities. A very healthy Chevrolet 6.2L LS3 engine, beautiful bucket seats, and Brembo brakes to tie the package together. The special part about the SS sedan though, is the true LS3/6L80e drivetrain. In typical fashion, I bought one of the worst condition ones that the salvage auction had to offer. That doesn't mean that this won't be a standout performer on the Salvage Story leader board though!

The best part about a Holden, is its Chevrolet engine. Change my mind…😁
Not a “ Cheverlot Engine” . It’s a GM engine and it’s in a lot of GM model Including the Holden Division.
Worst part is that autotragic. 😂
best part is it looks good, and you can thank aussies for that!
If Holden was left to build engines themsleves i am sure would of done something better. change my mind.
Holden v8 was one of best sounding V8's ever made and easy to make horsepower also.
Holden would of answered to Ford's Barra 6cylinder if was allowed to as Holden hated Ford Australia being better.
GM and America ruined Australia cars.
GM decided why spend billions on Australian designed motors when GM engines were already designed for USA.
LS engines are garbage..
@@nedkelly9688 i will admit holden was killed by GM but GM bougth out holden due to it about to go under in the first place so in reality they saved holden for at least a couple more years until 2017
REBUILD A ANOTHER SS. get this to 5000 likes
Come on guys!!!!
Do it👍
7500 and I’ll throw a blower on it too..
@@LeeCand then you'll wreck it doing donuts in the parking lot and have to rebuild again!
This isn’t going well at all. ☹️
FIX IT FIX IT FIX IT THEY'RE SO RARE AND SUCH A SLEEPER
Go to Australia bro there's tons
They are a dime a dozen here in aus. Iv owned 2 and they are shit.
I’m not sure what sleeper means anymore
@@scottwal7003that's where you would have o get the parts from. In the US they are rare unfortunately
@@lukemaloney1170if it was shit why did you buy 2?
Shame to see a VF parted out, so rare over here.
I love the SS, loved it when it came out. At the time I was driving an E39 540 sport/6sp that I loved better! Nice work and yes, let's see a rebuild of one of these cars!
That’s a Holden, mate! Australian designed… My mate’s Dad was the chief designer of the modern Monaro.
100%
Malibu designed 🙄🙄🙄🙄😂
100% Mate! But there is a Chevrolet emblem on the steering wheel 😂
Exactly!
@@ramblingtiger9320 Bogans do that to their Commys all the time.
With Holden no longer going in Australia , New Zealand these SS are climbing up in value , that colour is quite rare over ere as well. SMS such a same to pull this apart , would of made a great rebuild . And having Holden badges on it in usa makes it quite special .I think this should of been saved .
Big brother of the G8 GXP, the GXP came with a 6.2, the GT came with a 6.0
Ig you can find early model 6.0 Chevy SS’s 👍
I didn’t know the 6.2 was put in the G8. Thanks 👍🏻
Wasn't some of the GXP supercharged
@@justinwebster7761not sure if it was supercharged however the GXP was offered with a manual, where the GT was not GM thought about doing it than later they decided to only reserve that option for the GXP.
@keithczerniawski ok I wasn't sure if only a few of them had an option to have one but thanks for the info 👍
I have an SS with a manual transmission and I love it! I can't believe they didn't sell a million of them. I'd love to see you rebuild one.
They did sell a million here in aus where they are made.
@@lukemaloney1170 But not in the US. The SSs were not advertised. My guess is that it was too big a hassle to import them and Chevrolet was trying to limit the demand. The car in the video is badged as a Holden. I'm pretty sure these cars were not imported as Holdens. Some owners rebadged them as Holdens for some reason.
@@ronriley952 No none were imported as Holden, just start off as Holden then sent to Walkinshaw performance or HSV Holden Special Vehicles and changed to everything needed to be a American car.
Sorry firewall is changed at Holden to LHD also
But Americans love and know it is a Holden and change it back to one as respect.
Be like Australia rebadging a Camaro or siverado to Holden.. just fake.
Also American still believe Holdens are American.. brag about the Pontiacs that are Holden are actual American and our utes copy the El Camino lol hilarious they are so clueless.
See youtube videos at car shows and a lot still think are made in USA.
@@nedkelly9688it’s a Chevy brother it’s American, sorry😎 if Chevy didn’t exist you wouldn’t have the holden.
@@builtoverbought8911General Motors not Chevy.
GMH is the Holden.
Ohh .. and Rebuild an SS.. 🤠
This is one of my dream cars. Literally a 4 door corvette that flies under the radar. Perfect for racing mustangs and chargers lmaooo. I was looking at one a few months ago but they’re getting so expensive I just grabbed an e55 amg for 4 door v8 goodness
Rebuild a Chevy SS!
Rebuild one!! I have a 2015 SS and a 2015 Caprice PPV and it’s hands down the best cars I’ve ever owned. Please please spread the word about how amazing these things are and plenty parts cross share.
Show me your caprice 🌹
I would love to see a rebuild of an SS. They are so dope and relatively unknown outside the car scene. Shout out to Chevy for dropping the ball on this beauty
Irrespective of the damage it breaks my heart to see any Holden SS broken like this. Truly one of the classics here in Aus and worth so much now they are getting even rarer. 😞
A SS is definitely worth rebuilding. I had a G8 for years, Holdens are awesome rides... Sleepers.👍
I love the fact that someone put Holden badges back on it. In Australia, people put chevy badges on commodores. The SS was available in a ute, a station wagon, and a limo (Chevy Caprice) in Australia.
I always feel the amount you subtract for labor is way low. Thanks guys for sharing! Always enjoy these teardown videos!
I really enjoy these videos. Keep up the great work!
My mother has a Blue VF2-SSV Redline Commodore that she's kept since 2018. We've had a couple of mechanical scares due to service shop blunders, but it's still here and running with its LS3 intact. Nice to see one in barebones, despite the damage. Helps knowing what she's got.
The first time I saw one of these was when they were new, I walked right past it, thinking it was just another boring box from the formerly great GM car company. When I had gotten about 10 feet behind it, and was still walking, I heard it start up…. I heard the rumble of the stock v8 exhaust, and realized it was coming from that car…. Being a LS nut, I recognized the sound right away! From then on, I was hooked! I love that it’s a real sleeper. If you don’t know much about cars, you would never think it’s a car that came from the factory with more than 400 hp! I will own one, eventually.
BTW:
Pontiac G8, Chevy SS, Cadillac CTS-V
Are all the same Holden platform (I think they were called the “Zeta”platform, but I’m not a Holden expert.)
To me, the best Holden was the Maloo UTE. I can’t help it, I’m a sucker for an El Camino!
BTW, sometimes people make fun of the guys who put Holden badges on their SS’s…. The simple fact is; They were Holden Commodores before they were re-badged as Chevrolet SS’s.
Don't forget the Caprice PPV.
Lol is because the Aussie who designed the Holdens also designed the Cadillac CTS-V and why the CTS-V wagon has some similarities with the Holden Sports wagon.
Holden Australian designers still to this day work out of Australia designing GM cars worldwide.
Was actually Michael Simcoe who designed the 1998 Holden Coupe that turned in to the 2000 Holden Monaro and 2005 Pontiac GTO coupe.
Also the Zeta platform chassis is under the Chevy Camaro think 2015
The SS seats are very desirable. Caprice PPVs would sell their left nut for those bc they bolt right in with no modification. Same with center consoles
Yes would love to see a Chevy SS rebuilt!!!
10:15 It's a Holden Commodore, Mate. That is what it shares a body with. G8 and SS are both Commodore based. Pontiac GTO was based on the Monaro which was a two door Commodore.
I was actually looking forward to a rebuild on this car and even if it’s a G8 GT or even more better a G8 GXP definitely rebuild please I would watch for sure. Like you said it’s just extremely rare which could cause a problem finding parts depending on damage but the Holden there was a good amount of those made just not here.
Holden liked using the same bodies with some changes, here in Australia the little brother to the VF (The chevy ss) is the ve which they used for the g8s.
Rebuild a Ss love the channel can't wait to see it
Differences in the Camaro SS's with the 6.2L; The automatics came with the L99's. Manuals came with the LS3.
I'm gonna need to see that rebuilt SS
Because its a Holden Commodore from here in Australia it shares the body and trans tunnel from the lower spec Commodores that may not have the E-handbrakes, hence the cable hangers in the back.
The video is well made, the cars are sweet- but the wisdom that you guys are sharing about the industry is dope!
Was hoping it was gonna be a rebuild series 😥😥😥
next Time Rebuild it PLEASE. I am a Big Fan of the SS, I do own two, a 2005 Commodore and a 2014 Ute. Still have them in Switzerland.
lol has them in Switzerland.. bet that gets some looks.
I own 2003 Holden SS ute own a 2011 Holden SV6 ute as daily and own a 2011 SS Holden ute with Maloo kit also.
Since this is my favorite Chevy car, I would’ve loved to see you rebuild it. But I can understand why you chose to part it out. I’m sad, but I’m still a big fan of y’all’s work. Keep the great content coming. RIP Chevy SS 😢
Because the guy that has a TH-cam channel out named Tony we used to be on TV took one of these and had a engine in the front and a engine in the back that's pretty cool
No. That was an impala.
13:35 As an Australian that worked at Holden while the VY, VZ and VE were being made this video hurts! 😕
Definitely hard to watch.
Pat 🇦🇺
Don't know why you didn't get more of these state side. They are prolific here and considered a family car. The same body is used for the V6 or V8 and the Ute is particularly nice. They handle well and parts supply (made in Sputh Australia) is great.
They were barely marketed apart from NASCAR, which was/is in decline. Plus the name was really confusing, and people thought it was a sports version of another model
These salvage stories are my favorite! I'm salvaging my first car now
A Holden model, nice. I like how these can sound. Music to my ears.
First time I ever saw that color on a Chevy SS 😮. The glass on the shell of the car is worth something. I can even find the rear window for my 06 GTO anywhere 😅
My sons friend has an SS. Super nice car when he bought it. Not so much now….but it was decent fast for what it was…
Does he want to sell that car.
@@MIKEH.777 I’ll have to ask my son to ask him…..where are you located?
Always love your guys videos , perfect for lunch break. It was a crime how bad the advertising was for the SS. Nobodies ever heard of them 😂. I honestly think it was just GM getting rid of leftover pontiac stuff with a bang.
Those SS seats would be great in a restomod. Simple yet elegant with nothing more than the super sport logo.
A very beautiful car. I had a '17 . I would still have it except when I decided to add forced induction I decided it would be less costly to buy a '19 CTS-V. The best decision I have ever made.
Might want to look at the instructions on the leak down tester.
Fernando is completely Right. As the Camaro was based off the Original Holden based "Z" platform. Shared with the Pontiac G8 as well. And when developing the Gen5 Camaro SS both Australian and Detroit based engineering. Next time you are under a Gen5 note the Splined hub bearings in front. Shared with the AWD version Holdens. Fernando knows what's up👍
You are a true man of the craft my good sir
Holden really got the VF right ; they are a lovely car and still a few on the road here. Its a pity they closed up shop, and, a shame you parted this, but, looking at the damage ; and trying to get parts there (or even here in AU now) and getting them shipped to the US would not make it worthwhile
I'm looking for a 2016 holden ss with a clean title, not a rebuilt title . Cool video and info! THANKS!
Yes!! Do it!! I have one with over 100k mikes and still love it!!
waiting for a mustang, had dodges, chevys and all of that, now its time for a good old ford mustang
Soo .. y'all are forgetting about the Caprice PPV .. A LOT of these parts will fit them, and with a bunch coming out of service and auctioned to the public, many of the parts could go there too .. I may even take the rear diff... (Maybe)
Nope us Aussies are not because are our cars. we can name what fits and what does not better then any yank
We have lot's of parts even the Holden ute's and station wagons parts fit depending where needed.
Caprice is a luxury car in Australia why has all that foot room in the back you thought was good for criminals.
We just use the sedans as cop cars or a Toyota ute or a van for criminals.
Caprice used to drive our politicians around in comfort lol.
LOVE THAT CAR
Sleeper !!! Like the Pontiac
My mom got a 2017 SS Sedan 6-speed new. Thing was so badass with its exhaust from the factory
Bro is is your mom griselda Blanco what a badsss. She still got the car u get to drive it much ?
you should buy a set of wobbly socets. They are worth thier weight in gold
My favorite days is when you guys or LSC uploads a new video :)
Please rebuild another SS. It was such a shame seeing this one cut up as these cars are now pieces of History here in Australia as Holden was shut down. This car, The VF Commodore, was the last Commodore they got to build. Please find one to save. These cars need to be preserved. Same with the Pontiac GTO. Thats the last Monaro Holden Produced
The Chevy Caprice is why those brake cables are there.
Them sweat pants…😂😂 that’s what that $6 bucks a hour wage gets you
I saw a purple oil filter, Royal Purple... That's what I use, someone took care of that engine.
Do a rebuild SS !
Definitely wanna see one rebuilt.
The word you were looking for was "embellish".
That's awesome rare find @Scraplife Garage a America 2019 Chevy SS which nothing more than Holden but chassis definitely Pontiac G8 stop' production in 2009 .
U can buy a v6 g8 with timing chain issue for cheap and out that drive train and seats from the ss into. Basically a build your own gxp
Oh god clueless are not even the same car kiddo.how about building a original Holden HSV Holden special Vehicles LSA powered version.
Your GXP was pile of puss.
I love my 14 ss just missing mag ride and rear brembos
We have to see the NSX!!❤
I don't get why you don't just rebuild it
should rebuild the r9 maloo if you get the chance. Hotwheels looking pickup truck with ls init
The trans tunnel is shared with the 14-17 caprice ppv with is lever driven. You could buy a cheap caprice and build a badass car with the ss parts.
You should rebuild it into the ute version you can get ute shells from AUS
I really wish Holden was available here in the U.S. Chevy would have still been my favorite.
Yes they are the G8 GTO just with a face lift, all parts are interchangeable.
Shares the Caprice ppv chassis
Does not Caprice is much longer and shares chassis with the Holden sports wagon.. a station wagon and the Holden ute.
Caprice even has more leg room in the back floor and why USA used it as a cop car for prisoners.
Australia used it as a limosine luxury car with wine holders in the back.
Shared with the chevy caprice 2011 to 2017 has same interior closer to g8 exterior.
For curiosity's sake, I'd love to see a hi-res photo of the Big Board
I wanted one of these since they first came out. I just recently bought a Caprice PPV, not as nice but just as fun.
Looks like someone started parting out Dalts pants
Now is time to import from Australia to convert to left-hand drive. As on the east coast of Australia, these cars are written off here permanently, never to be reregistered again here, with very little damage as parts are getting hard to get. So our cars become parts cars and are often exported without the engine or separated with the right hand drive engine.
Commodores all had put cable handbrake that’s why that mount is under the car
Just seen a red one for sale around 58000 i was wondering why and your breakdown explains clearly why 😭
Rebuild one like a HSV GTSR W1 from Australia.
LS9!!!!!!
They go for $350k - $500k Australian,
And the 4-6 ute variants are over $1million plus.
Where you located I have few parts you can use off my old SS of course their gonna need painted. I have rear bumper, trunk, tail lights, air bags, radiator support if needed Quarter Panels Too
😅 one rebuilt keep up the good job I like this channel
With HSV Clubsport body kit from Australia.
If you buy the magnaride, remember you have to replace in pairs
That commodore I mean Chevrolet ss is sick
I want to see you rebuild an SS, there's your request .
What you call in American the g8 is the exact same frame and the ss they were all built on the same system. And if you look closely the 2 door is the same too as we (holden in australia) built it for chev to use in transformers and built all them here to ship over to America. All built on the g8 frame
You really should have rebuilt it this is a beautiful car
I’d like to see that or a Pontiac G8
All auto 5 gen Camaro SS cars were L99. The 6 speed manual cars were all LS3.
23:49 If you'd have pulled the carpet and the sunroof assembly she may have hit #1...😉
Shame to see it get wrecked great Australian built car should have been rebuilt looked like a fairly straight forward repair
I want to see a classic car rebuild
R.I.P. Holden
I want to see an SS with a LSA or LS-9! Talk about ultimate street sleeper! Maybe a smaller pulley, bigger cam, bigger injectors, and some tuning. Not going too crazy…. ‘Just’ around 900hp😂. Perfect street car.
Buddy we did over here check out the vf hsv gts and senator hsv with lsa
Lol Australia had it and utes and station wagons with the LSA.. So funny you yanks have no idea.
Don’t have any regrets buying my 2015 Chevy SS truly a underrated car might even say I prefer it over a hellcat long live Holden 🦁
You mean RIP Holden as America killed it lol.
Could the front and rear glass be salvaged, the sunroof and sunroof motor & switch too?? Door rubbers and interior carpet
Here they are a VF - Executive (base modle V6).
Calais - V6 - V8 mid range
Statsman Caprice - V6 - V8 sort of top of the range.
I say sort of because the "top of the range" in holden seem to fall apart quite fast. But most cars are the same these days... Plastic crap.
SS - V8
Clubsport R8, which i guess is your G8.
They never made a 2 door.. real shame.
