    Thank you for this! What a gift! I was out there 12 days behind you on a solo hike. Never made it to HI due to covid on day 3 out at crabtree. Boy that helicopter scene hit home...I have vivid memories of being holed up in my tent with a raging fever, incessant cough, aches, etc. for 2 nights wondering if I would need a helicopter. I ended up backtracking, recuperating at Mt. Williamson, then getting back on at Onion Valley and making it to Red's.
    I loved reliving the parts I hiked, and getting an insider view of what I missed (haha including sections I hiked but in rain & clouds so I missed the views--like Glen Pass). It was so fun to enjoy this and plan for returning to the Sierra!!

    This popped up on my TH-cam feed and I am so glad it did! Watching it from Scotland, the birthplace of the great John Muir. I love watching hiking videos, especially the US ones as the terrain looks so different in different states. Nice food and treats brought by your wife too! Very enjoyable and relaxing. Thank you.

    Ah you guys!!! I have loved every single second of this video! You are a pair of total nutters, but I love that, it helps to get through life to have a sense of humour! Twenty five days together, and two hundred and twenty plus miles would test any friendship, but although there may have been moments, you never came across as anything but good buddies. Your photography was incredible, I never tire of seeing videos of the JMT, but with some I lose interest after a while, not yours, it was absolutely brilliant! Well done you two, I will enjoy this video again and again, everything about it was first class! I would love to hike the JMT myself, but live in the UK, and after being wiped off the road on my motorbike am now disabled, but videos like yours show me again just how beautiful the Sierras are, thank you!!

      Jilly....wow thank you so much for the kind words!! I'm glad I could transport you to the Sierras for a brief moment. So sorry to hear about your motorcycle accident, but glad I could bring a smile to you from so far away. The Sierras are amazing and I am fortunate enough to live within a few hours of them. I am lucky to hike with a great group of friends(who I met on one of my first backpacking trips in 2019 on the High Sierra Trail) There are a few other videos on my channel you can take a peek at as well. Hope you have a fantastic holiday.

    The Rainbow fire was in 1992. Since then there have been multiple “Mono Wind” events (100+ mph) through that canyon causing the trees to snap off…leaving behind the tall stumps. Pretty interesting weather phenomenon many hikers overlook this and consider this area of the JMT as least scenic and boring. The forest is making a great recovery.
    Thanks for the great video. Probably passed you going opposite direction near Rae Lakes this summer.

      Over the years I've been looking at the videos posted by thru hikers as they pass through this area and how dry, desolate and exposed it looked. But as I watched one particular video earlier this summer I was struck by how the scenery has finally changed. It's taking on a more lush appearance as the understory has spread throughout, and especially with the proliferation of new trees that are becoming more prominent. It makes me happy to see it, but boy did it take a long time.

    • @guyvennerojr.9805
      @guyvennerojr.9805  ปีที่แล้ว

      My buddy brought along a crank powered radio/light to see what we could get in the back country....This little radio is not powerful enough to get a signal from TJ, probably Visalia or Central California. It wasn't worth the weight so he dropped it off after our first resupply. And as far as listening to music on hikes, you would be surprised at how many hikers use music or podcasts to get them through long stretches of the trail. And I'm no purist either...left my canvas backpack, food wrapped in banana leaves and leather shoes back at the house!!!
