      That means a great deal coming from you, thank you so much! I'd love to have touched upon some more of the features in your great program but felt this was enough to get someone started without things becoming confusing for a beginner :)
      Thank you again for taking the time to comment, I feel a bit starstruck after using Siril so long!

    One year on since you made this tutorial Luke I watched it for the 1st time after someone mentioned how good it is. I still like DSS to stack my images but love this. I also found it great to then save as a .Tiff file and finish using Photoshop and Starnet etc. A really easy to understand tutorial 👍

    I'm just starting out in astrophotography, a bit late in life but hey, you're never too old to learn! I have been looking at processing software but I've been having a hard time sorting out which one to try/use/get confused with. I've looked at a lot of tutorials and I'm a little bit sick of the "I know what I mean so everyone must know what I mean" attitude that a lot of people have. Now, I appreciate that they're trying to help but having done a bit of teaching/instruction in the past I'm very conscious of where points are not being made well. This 16 minute tutorial has made my mind up to not splash out on Pixinsight just yet or APP but to give Siril a go. Thank you for a clear and simple explanation of how to start using this tool. It's very much appreciated and for sure, a more in depth one when you have the time will be appreciated even more. I subscribed a few days ago, I like your style. :thumbsup:

      Hey! Thank you so much for your well thought out comment, it's very interesting to hear feedback from you especially given that you've given tuition yourself! :)
      I'm very happy that I was able to help in any way with this video, and I do really think that Siril is a wonderful program so I'm sure you'll get to grips with it in no time! 👍
      Thank you for the subscribe, the support is hugely appreciated, and regarding starting out - you're absolutely right, you're never too old to learn and give new things a shot, I think the fact you are here researching such subjects just shows that you'll have a leg up on many other beginners right from the start! :)
      Thank you for your time,
      Clear skies and good luck!

    Great video mate - having used ASTAP and DSS in the past, I'm dabbling with Siril and can already see the benefits of this software; especially the photometric calibration tool. And it was soooo helpful getting the info on how you "de-green" your images. Always a scurge of OSC. I've usually done most of post in PS but there's not the astro knowledge that this software seems to have. Anyhoo thanks for taking the time to share this tutorial.

    This was a great tutorial. I do have two questions though. First did you use Siril for stacking your images. Second, Siril is suppose to support processing of RAW images now. Do you know if it uses the meta data in the RAW images to remove distortion? Thanks.

    • @lukomatico
      @lukomatico  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Jim! - I did not use siril for stacking, it was an old file I had from DSS :-)
      Re: metadata in raw, I assume you mean an embedded lens distortion correction? I'm not sure it can use that kind of data, as far as I know the only type of metadata it can use is the kind of data stored in .Fits headers for astrometric solutions within the program, like photometric colour calibration etc.
      I'm sorry I couldn't be more help there!

    How beautiful ❤️ May I ask why my deep sky stacker output has this red tint? I looks like your green tint all over the image but mine is all red. I don't know what's wrong. I uploaded all calibration frames: lights, darks, flats, and biases.

    • @lukomatico
      @lukomatico  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you! - The only time I've seen a reddish output from DSS is when stacking frames from a modified DSLR and filter (or less commonly, the wrong debayer setting if using a dedicated astro cam) Does any of that sound like it could apply to your situation?
      Good luck! :-)

    • @Polaris97
      @Polaris97 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@lukomatico ohh my camera is not astro modified. Last month's output was good but later on it gives this red tint all over the image which made it so difficult for post processing. Anyway, thank you for the idea 😊

    • @lukomatico
      @lukomatico  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey mate! - I'm really glad you liked the video! :) regarding the box, is it the select box for one of the processes that's somehow got stuck on the image perhaps? - if so, it may be worth deselecting any boxes before saving, it's not something I've ever encountered unfortunately!

    • @lukomatico
      @lukomatico  ปีที่แล้ว

      No problem my friend! - If you have your astrometric data stored in your .fits file, or if you simply know it via plate-solves etc, then it's a superb feature! - I personally was a bit lazy with Siril though, so often times just opted for background neutralization & colour calibration instead :-D Still works well!

    Thanks. Just started using Siri last night. Great alternative to DSS. Is it possible to combine narrow band images with color images in the tool? Assign narrow band to RGB channels if you will.

    • @lukomatico
      @lukomatico  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey John, thanks for commenting! - to answer your question - Yes! :)
      in Siril go to the image processing dropdown box, and right at the bottom is "rgb compositing"
      this will allow you to take your stretched individual mono channels and recombine them to a colour image, like a SHO narrowband image for example :)

      I'd guess at undersampling perhaps? Have you shot with a lens and dslr for example?

      @@lukomatico yes, I shot with my dslr and a mini refractor.
      Any way what do you mean by undersampling, and if I can, How can I have my stars like yours in this video.
      Im sorry for this questions but im a confused beginner

    • @lukomatico
      @lukomatico  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey mate! - what undersampling means is that there's too few pixels looking at each angular portion of the sky, leading to a coarse/blocky appearance on stars etc.
      The usual way to solve the problem of undersampling is either to use a longer focal length telescope, and/or use a smaller pixel camera, another possible solution is to perform 'drizzle' while stacking the data :-)
      I'm sorry if this is confusing my friend!
      All the very best,

      Hey there mate! you should just be able to open the master stacked file that DSS creates, and it will work within siril straight away usually!

      A tif should work fine I think mate, is it a 16 bit tiff or a 32 bit? sometimes 32 bit tiffs behave oddly in Siril I've found!

    Why does Siril load my image as black and white?

    • @lukomatico
      @lukomatico  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Darrien,
      That seems like an odd one! - it's worth noting that Siril automatically comes on with your image in the R channel I believe when loading RGB images, and you have to click the RGB tab as you see me do a few times throughout the video to actually see the colour at that point.
      One other thing may be that your stacking software may not be set to debayer your images which would leave you with black and white images rather than colour - worth checking it's set to debayer them!
      I hope that helps,
      Luke
