Most recordings of this song contained only the first verse. The radio would never, ever play the other verses and rarely was it included in recordings except this one by Ella and of course by the recordings of the stage production of "Pal Joey".
They always praise Rodgers and Hammerstein, but Rodgers and Hart were great! Hart died young, and was gay, another great talented erased by history, except for his lovely songs!
Joseph Valenti This song really comes alive when you envision Larry Hart writing it about one of his own affairs ... Ella is magnificent but somehow it seems even better suited for a man's perspective...
Huh? The singer should sound less like...an angel? Dude, the singer/narrator is a human being, who wants love and respect, and had it for awhile, then lost it. And it was not the first time that same story played out in her life. Was she supposed to stop looking for love (yes, and sex) to avoid looking too "hedonistic" to you and other moral authorities? It's one thing to drop judgments on a comments page; it's another thing to work hatred like yours on real live people. I pray you have not done too much actual damage.

I always preferred Hart's lyrics. They were more clever and urbane than Hammerstein's--who was great, but could get a bit sappy on occasion.
no one in her class
I fuckin hate be in Love.
And now you are broke, so you earned alot
I like Rogers and Hart but these lyrics are a bit too hedonistic. This song would be better sung by a less angelic voice.
It's not at all an "angelic" voice : Ella's voice is deeply sexy!
