Sarah, I think I have seen all your gd reactions and you definitely are understanding this music. You get them every time. Dancing in your seat, perfect.
Just a little reality check, those two little kids dancing on the stage are over 50 years old now. Hope they're doing great. This footage is an outtake from "The Grateful Dead Movie", from October 1974 at Winterland in San Francisco. Can't say it enough, Thank You Phil, RIP.

Thank you for the video Sarah! You look just like I feel when listening to The Dead. Their music is full of every emotion and I'm always reminded of how precious this moment is and how loving this world can be. Take care!
This makes me so happy! I have loved the grateful dead for most of my life and I'll be 50 this year. Check out Scarlett begonias/ Fire on the mountain for Cornell 5-8-1977. It's magical and in my opinion the Grateful Dead is the best American band. They cover all genres of American music
@@lowryshank94 First couple of times for China -> Rider I didn't know they were playing a song. I thought they were describing my patterns. I soon recognized the first notes, ready to dance, filled with joy.
The Grateful Dead played feel good music. But going to see the Grateful Dead was an experience you just had to experience yourself. A concert like no other. The whole place was a sea of dancing tie dyes. And the friendliest people you would ever meet. Never had such a good time.
This is taken from a five-night run in October of 1974 that immediately preceded a hiatus of the band that, with the exception of four one-off gigs in '75, lasted for a year and a half ---during which the band recorded an album from which a track called "The Music Never Stopped" would have you up out of your chair (and "Crazy Fingers" is lighter but great, too)
What a great reaction to one of the Dead’s best song segues! Fantastic live performance pick as well. Grateful Dead in the 70s was their peak imo, and there’s not much on video during that period. So it’s very special to be watching them in their heyday. So many other great songs from Winterland 1974. Scarlet Begonias, Weather Report Suite, Morning Dew, Stella Blue, just to name a few favorites. Christopher Hazard TH-cam channel is dedicated to upgrading old Grateful Dead videos to HD/4K. Hes got some amazing videos from 1976-1978 that are top tier! Thanks for the great reaction✌️
The Dead’s concerts were always family affairs - whole families on the stage dancing. The whole ethos around the Dead was for everyone to join in. Their concerts lasted for hours.
Robert Hunter’s lyrics in China Cat one reminds me of stream-of- consciousness poetry of the beatniks. Not surprising, given that he was a product of the ‘Beat Generation’.
it's fun to watch video of Jerry Garcia Band (his solo project when he was in Grateful Dead). I think you will enjoy the period from the late eighties through the early nineties! Thanks for your reactions
There are countless videos of the Dead on TH-cam. A good place to start is the channel "Wall of Sound", but there are many. The video you watched is from the Grateful Dead movie, which was recorded in 1974 and released in theaters in 1977. I'd recommend watching it to get a sense of the family that loved them so much, and still do. th-cam.com/video/JOciFuV2APg/w-d-xo.html
Gurl looking like you really were digging it. This version wasn't full of fireworks and strokes of genius, but plplenty of "goodness, slow and sweet". See you soon.
go listen to Scarlet Begonias> Fire in the Mountain. then Estimated Prophet>Eyes of the World. and finally. Playin in the band>Uncle Jons Band. In a strange way, its their "greatest hits list", specifically, the instrumental sections between the songs. There are hundreds of versions. Its what its alla bout in my opinion.
China Cat had a slightly different musical take when it first began. When you have the chance seek out early versions of this song. The later versions were great. But the earlier versions .. oh my goodness.
Phil Lesh who is playing rhythm guitar unfortunately passed away two weeks ago. I believe he was the last surviving member of the original Grateful Dead. RIP
Yes Phil is on the bass guitar.... Funny thing though I've recently realized that some time Phil plays the lead on the bass ...Phil had earned a spot in the San Francisco symphony when he was 18 as a concert violinist
@@JohnLedger-g4iIn his late teens Phil Lesh earned second chair trumpet with the Oakland Symphony Orchestra before playing bass with The Warlocks, which became the Grateful Dead. Two founding members of the Dead are still alive and playing-Bob Weir and Bill Kreutzmann- as well as Mickey Hart, who joined the band about a year and a half later.
Now while '74 was a great year for the Dead, what you need to listen to is later on when they had the power of a second drummer. The Dead was the first band to have two drummers, before the Allman Bros did it. Actually 78 and after when the drummers would have a drum solo in the second set. And they had a contraption of drums and electronic instruments that they dubbed the Beast. And they would have all the drums to bang. It could shake a stadium. It was the best.
There is Nothing like a Grateful Dead Concert!

Make America great or make america GRATEFUL again ????
Hell yeah
We will make America grateful again in time. We need to believe it.

Sister, if you’re being moved and swayed by the music, then you get what the essence of what the Grateful Dead was about…✌️☮️💕
One of the American legacy bands... the deads music spectrum is wide and deep. Jerry was a top 10 guitarist and banjo player imo.
This jam is my jam it gets me going in the morning and walking down the street feeling bad. Jerry you are missed and Phill you are the man as well
Great question, "What is going on here?" The same thing that happened at every Grateful Dead show. People dancing their asses off. LOL.
