I love this song! I first heard it with The Imperials & Russ Taff. I was this person they're singing about. I was a young Christian and was looking for answers about life and my religious beliefs everywhere, but with no success. I was tied down to a religious spirit that existed in our church, and I was tired and wanted to be free from it. I did what this song says, I reached for Jesus Christ on my own with all my heart, and He showed me the truth. Suddenly, I felt free!! I could finally "glide on the wind" free to serve Him like I wanted to, free from years of religious thinking that I was brought up with. A religious spirit can rob a Christian from enjoying a wonderful life in Christ. If you ever have a question or a doubt about your beliefs, just ask Jesus!! He'll show you!! "And you shall know the truth and the truth shall set you free." John 8:32 Thank you, Jesus!!!
Thank you for your testimony of liberation from “religion” to an authentic, liberating personal relationship. I went to a church for years that stifled my spiritual growth and poisoned my thinking and I felt like I was in a desert. I left that church and am now part of a vibrant, liberating, Bible speaking, Jesus worshiping church. I have grown in my walk with Jesus in one year than I have in the past twenty at that old church. God is good. All the time!😊❤️
Russ and his wife Tori wrote this song. Saw him in a solo concert in the early 80's. He came out and told the story behind the song. This song speaks to the incredibly deep thoughts of God that often come from the simplest things. I hope you’ll take a few minutes and just stop… and think about God. 🍀🌹🍀
This song is one of my favorites. I didnt think anyone could do it as well as Russ Taff. The Gaither vocal band did it wonderfully. I love the blessed look on Russ' face as he listenes to his song.
Recreate within us clean hearts OH GOD*... in the very "IMAGE" of CHRIST!!! Thank you GUYS* for what is the most beautiful song ever written by #RussTaft & sung by only those who could really do it equal #DivineJustice!!!
The GVB did a great job on their cover of the Imperials' song. (I'm not sure why no one else has recorded it; maybe because the Imperials did it so well that no one else wanted to attempt it.) However, I don't know why they (Bill maybe?) thought they should change the word "fill" to "find". That's not accurate to the meaning of the line. No one needs to "find the spirit housed within". Everyone has a spirit, and we need to "Fill" it. And we fill it with the HOLY Spirit. Plus, where the song talks about "glide/fly on the wind", where the word "wind" is used in the Bible, it usually represents spirit/Spirit.
Yes it is a beautiful song - wow! But before one jumps on the Evangelical Christian bandwagon remember that an eagle is: 1) a symbol of freedom 2) a symbol of ultimate nature ... regardless of belief so ... this song is about something which is not confined to any religious doctrine, but is "free" from the constraints of ideology.
