- I'm in Chelsea today and in particular, the Fox and Pheasant pub which is owned by the famous singer, James Blunt. The Fox and Pheasant is a very popular pub in West London and has some excellent reviews online so I'm really looking forward to giving this one a go!

A small menu is a good sign. The more extensive the menu the riskier the food . Gary is always objective.

Good point Jan. When I see a menu of 40 pages I panic. Nobody can master that many dishes in a normal eatery or else it is all frozen, packet, microwaved🤨

I got a phone call today asking if I would be interested in playing for chelsea. I told them I'm 65 , no problem, they said , could I play this Saturday . I thought, why not , " Let's give it a go ! " Another great review 👏

A 'pie' without sides and a base is not a pie in my book - it's just laziness to simply slap a disc of puff pastry on top of some filling and attempting to get away with it by labelling it 'deconstructed'.

I had a terrific meal there just over a year ago. I was seeing off a friend who was moving to Mexico. She was a friend of the pub manager and the service and atmosphere was exemplary; the food was top notch.

(23) Deliciously different pub food. The Camembert looked fantastic; having a grilled shallot to go with it was genius. SO glad you picked the pie; the filling really caught my eye. Who doesn't like ham and cheese. Creamy, well seasoned mash and the lovely cabbage and peas. And a Vanilla Rice Pudding. WOW!!! Thanks for the upload, Gary. On to the next!!!

Think your 9/10 was spot on, everything looked good,but …..very pricey, even for London. I know it was quality and if its good its worth the cost, but £48 a head for a pie lunch …ouch!
That was a good looking pub and those were good looking dishes. I think that I'd be very happy to eat that meal. The pie looked stunning - a proper pie. Thanks for the video Gary, great work. Cheers.

I do love a homemade rice pudding, but it's got to have a spoonful of strawberry jam in it (& a bit of nutmeg!). Every time I hear James Blunt's name I laugh thinking of Bryn singing along to the radio in the car with Gwen in Gavin & Stacey! You certainly had a fit of the giggles at the end of the vid!! I think the reason that celebrity pubs are so good is that generally they're a passion project and something they'd have loved to do whether or not they had the fame and the money.
Very good point, probably something some do out of boredom lol
Probably reduces their tax liability too!
They have also clearly hired very good people and have a clear mission. They aren't usually interested in twists or fashion, but getting to the core of what people want in a pub.

That was a quality looking pie, though I prefer fluffy mashed potatoes to piped smooth stuff.

Rare to see a Dartboard in a Gastro Pub in this day and age. Good to see this one has some time for the beautiful game. Being a former County Level Player I approve of Mr Blunt’s decision to cater for the Tungsten Throwers.

Maybe he is a darts player himself? Doesn't take much room like a pool table, and it will keep you occupied and buy more pints.
The shorter the menu the better the food! Nice to see a proper portion of mash. Maureen in poplar would approve.

Another great review, one thing I did notice, when you say 'have a look at this' and The Camerman zooms in, it worked really well this time, on a couple of the other reviews he doesn't get enough time to zoom in and show us before you've whipped the food away and into your mouth, not a criticism, just something I spotted, so make sure you give him time to zoom in and focus so we get the full food experience 😄
Lovely looking pub, Chelsea prices, so can't really complain I suppose, and the food was spot on and you looked like a happy bunny, so a worthy 9/10.

Very pricey for a pie, however I have never had a problem paying for quality. When it’s rubbish and expensive I will complain. All looked fab, nice review Gary and son 🥰

The top end of pricey for a 'pub lunch', but that was a top end pub lunch.
Probably (if not definitely) the only meal I've seen reviewed that I wouldn't mind paying that sort of price for.
It was a bit pricey but you get what you pay for! Plus as you said, the location. It all looked very good, especially the pie!❤

WOW! All aspects of that meal were delivered with a lot of care and could see the freshness in each course. Nothing heated up here - and served up hot! A must in my eyes. Fully agree with your marking and a little more cream would have been nice with the dessert. Yes a bit more expensive for many of us for lunch, but given the location, I would be more than happy to pay this for a treat. Beautifully decorated inside and out. I had to LOL at the end, You are such a natural and clearly see you have such an amazing relationship with your Son. Thankyou for these wonderful videos. Love to you both. xx
I have to say on this occasion, Sharon this pub delivered. I fully agree with your comments. It was pricey but so many people have not taken into consideration the location. The quality of the food was outstanding as was the service. The curb appeal of the pub just makes you want to go in and at least have a drink. Hi Gary, what a beautiful little pub! A small menu is often a good sign too for quality & consistency. The fried camembert looked lovely, as did the pie & mash. A great pub meal all-round! The perfect place for a lunch out, though a little pricey. I need to look up these rumours/stories of Chelsea FC signing everybody!! 😅😂. Take care & til' next time 💙

One of my former clients served as a Captain in the same regiment as Blunt, upon quizzing him I'm afraid he didn't have too many complimentary words to say about him neither personal nor professional. On a different note the food in his establishment looks pretty decent albeit the price, but it is in one of the most affluent areas of the UK. I'd be more than happy to give it 8/10.

Sounds like your former client who served as Captain should be Captaining not quizzing and if the review is a 9 then it's most certainly not a begrudgingly given 8 if you haven't been and tried it! Looked amazing and I would have tried the mackerel starter and then the pie, nice choice Gary, great review 😊

The Fox and Pheasant is a stunningly beautiful pub. I find that most establishments that have a tight short menu execute the menu extremely well and the Fox and Pheasant dose. The food looked absolutely delicious especially the Ham hock and Cheese Pie. It is on the pricy side but the value is there. Gary I got a good laugh at you cracking yourself up at the end of the video......such a goof ball 🤣 Awesome review really enjoyed it..........Cheers.

It’s been like trip down memory lane for me with some of your recent blogs Gary , as a kid I lived just around the corner from Stamford Bridge in the Lewis trust buildings next to Fulham Broadway train station , this looked like high quality pub grub and it seems like the celebrity pubs are doing a much better job than the celebrity restaurants , the likes of this pub , Neil Morrisey’s , Conor Mcgergors and James Mays to name a few maybe you could put Jeremy Clarksons new pub on your to do list I think it’s called The farmers dog , but a pub in a location like this where there are probably going to be some wealthy residents near by and serving food that good I would imagine Mr Blunt is going to do very well , great review as usual my friend 👍

Evening Gary at my team! was a season ticket holder years ago. Nice looking pub, nice pub grub and hot too. BUT pricey for the type of food as iy was cheapy ingredients. Really glad you enjoyed your meal Gary you put a smile on my face !!!!! Thank you Gary Suex

When looking at prices of pub/restaurant food, I think a fair starting point is "how much would I pay for a mass-produced pie sitting in a plastic chair on a high street in any old chain, like one that I wont name but begins with G and ends in Reggs, for example? Then how much would i add for fresh and expertly sourced ingredients? How much for expertly cooked? How much for a proper venue with proper furniture and cutlery? How much for attentive staff? How much for Chelsea overheads so the business doesnt die? Having that meal from the Fox and Pheasant is a world away from a Pukka Pie from your local chippy

That pie looked fantastic. Also, loved the 70's flashback of what we had back then, in Australia, deep fried Camembert. Usually served with a sweet cranberry sauce. 😊

Great pub grub review Gary. That baked cheese croquette looked awesome along with that ham & cheese pie. Rice pudding crème brûlée was clever instead of it being a cold dessert.

Great to hear of food being served that doesn't require additional seasoning. I understand that everyone has differing tastes, however, my way of thinking, if a dish needs to be covered in condiments to render it edible, it wasn't prepared properly.

How nice to see a pub that’s retained its character, I hate sports pubs with great big blaring TV’s. The Truman’s mirror bought back memories as my dad was a Truman’s manager for many years, I loved going to Brick lane to the brewery, with a stop at Beigel bake yum. Expensive is fine when the quality matches the price, great review as always

I thought the standard and the quality was excellent on this occasion Lisa it was a bit pricey but Chelsea is an expensive part of London ❤️
WOW...that was some pie!...It looked absolutely delicious.. yes it was pricey, but you pay for being in Chelsea...plus it is a beautiful pub ...I would be happy to go here as a 'treat'.

Great show as always! That pub looked fantastic and all of the food looked delicious. I agree with your 9 score. My only criticism is if you went for lunch to adults and a child and you had a couple of glasses of wine you've nearly got to 200 pounds easy!
I agree with you, Ian. It was expensive, especially for a family of four but it is top quality.
That food and review definitely got the taste buds going overtime. That pie (and the rest) was an example the celebrity chef restaurants should take note of. And looks you had a great time 👍

Lovely looking pub. There's something about those old tiles in that particular shade of green and the hanging baskets. The food looks great too but a little too steep for my wallet. It's shocking even for that London!

Had a pint standing on the pavement outside that pub when my team played Chelsea many years ago. There were a couple of tv personalties close by who were Chelsea fans. Location, location i believe Gary so the prices were pitched accordingly. The food did look really good and you obviously enjoyed it so a 9 it was. Keep the reviews coming and thanks for the travelling you do to keep us informed and entertained.
I think Jeremy Clarkson who is also a Chelsea fan has been here recently as well!

You looked much happier than in many other places that you have visited. The starter must have been delicious. You were actually salivating when you looked at the beautiful pie. 😊 It was served in an old-fashioned way with mashed potatoes, cabbage, and peas, as should be the way in an English pub. Perfection. I am not into rice pudding. I would have chosen something else. I guessed it would be a score of 9 out of 10! Steep bill, but, as you said, you were in Chelsea. It must cost a fortune to renovate and manage a pub in Chelsea. James Blunt clearly saved this pub for the local area. It did look lovely! Another place that I would like to visit. Thank you!

Although living in the area I hadn't been for years, but we were both very impressed and will definitely be back.
