I really think Sheyer should play Evans and Harris more in a regular rotation. Duke has 10 if not 11 legit weapons so when one is misfiring reload with another to see if he is on. It helps develop the bench so that when you HAVE to play them they have game experiences.
I think Evan’s would’ve gotten steamrolled in that game. I take a lot of hate because I’m not as up on Evans as others but I think he doesn’t have a body for a game like last night(1), and I’ve never seen him as a creator. He can shoot lights out in streaks but at what point do you take your biggest (poundage) guys out and hope that Evans feels like a streak before he gets run into and pushed around? If I were Jon I probably wouldn’t have gambled that way last night. But!!!! Here’s the thing, if Evans does not get in against Louisville and Pitt (you get what I mean) then either there’s a problem behind the scenes with Evans or Jon is screwing up. My opinion. I know others like the kid more than I do so I’m kinda biased
@matthewharris7640 Evans may have been a liability on defense but you still have to score points to win....can't keep having 0 for 8 from your supposedly "best shooter "
Mark my words....this team will need Evans, Harris and Big Pat to reach their full championship potential.....we are not winning nothing with a 7 or 8 man rotation IMHO
What I don't understand is the 2010 National championship team Scheyer played on had a 9-10 rotation.....but 3 straight years he seems unwilling to play more than 8.
Highly overrated player. You're 7’2 but can't score the ball in the post! He better off standing in the corner. At least I've seen him make a 3 before.
Bottom line is Foster is shaky. I like the kid but he Ben killing us, he doesn’t show up in big games or big moments. He -13 last night, no assist in the last two games, he can’t lead the team at this moment. Let Sion and Kon run point, and let’s open up the bench, I don’t want those kids to transfer, Evans and Harris
I would go huge starting 5! Proctor at PG, Kon at SG, Flagg at SF, Brown at PF, and Maluach at C. I have seen Brown and Maluach shoot threes in a game and practice. Also, give Evans minutes over Ellis.
It would have been tied and gone into OT not won the game. It was a great game to watch on both sides. I knew it would be close. Almost like watching a Final Four game!
Oh God. That no true point guard argument. When was that disaster of a season(s) that we heard that every game? Somewhere from 05-14 I think. I still wince every time I hear that phrase due to how often the announcers rubbed it in game after game. Please let them fix that at least! Your points are dead on for last nights game though.
Tough first half for Flagg but he turned it on in the 2nd half. Hopefully he learns that he can’t spin in the paint on iso plays where the other defenders can just watch and wait for the spin. He needs to make decisive straight line drives in those situations. Kon had a really rough shooting game but he is smart enough as a player to not rely solely on the 3 and he mixes in some good drives and work inside. That last play was a bad turnover but coach could have drawn up a better play where Tyreese and Flagg weren’t just standing and watching and Maluach didn’t just drag his defender right under the basket after setting the down screen for Kon. If the play is for a drive with kick out options you have to clear the lane for him and the outside guys have to slide to open spots as kon is driving. Have Maluach set that DS for kon and then head to the opposite corner to set a screen for Sion. It’ll keep the big man out of the paint and makes them have to guard some sort of off ball action. The way that play was run the only guy who had to defend anyone was Adams (their best defender) on kon’s drive. The wing defenders didn’t even have to move and Budinga was sitting there at the rim waiting. I’ve been a big Scheyer supporter, but maybe he’s a better recruiter than in game strategist.
Well Coop has been better than most he has played against. I don’t think he has played against Bill Self before. You have to give props to Bill for drilling a game plan into his players and getting it done. They had a week to prepare for this and they were ready. I don’t like that but Bill’s experience showed. The need for upperclassmen also showed if you ask me. Anyway…. I really don’t think Cooper is a problem until he doesn’t come back from this smarter with more uses for his arms and legs than freaking spinning!!!
@ 100% agree. I’ve been trying to stay positive about Scheyer because I loved him so much as a player and he’s done a great job recruiting but he hasn’t done a great job of developing or retaining talent. Of the guys that have stayed, Flip, Mitchell, Roach, Tyreese and Foster who really improved year to year?
They need Pat to play some minutes at the 5. Maluach 20, Maliq 10, Pat 10. That allows Maliq to play 15-20 at the 4, Cooper moves to the 3 for 25 and plays the other 10 at the 4. Sion should start at the 1, proctor at the 2. That leaves 20-25 minutes at the guard spots to share between Foster, Kon and Harris. And 10-12 for Evans at the 3. Gillis is the break glass in case of emergency guy. He can play the 2-4 if someone gets hurt or in foul trouble.
It’s all the same trip. If he does this crap after they get home and practice, then yeah… I’m starting to feel like you there. I think he will adjust though before tournaments.
