- Aired (August 21, 2021): Kamakailan, nabahala ang mga residente ng Jose Panganiban sa Camarines Norte dahil sa pagdami ng 'crown of thorns' o dap-ag, isang uri ng starfish na kumakain ng coral reefs o bahura. Ano nga ba ang dahilan ng kanilang pagdami at paano masosolusyonan ang problemang ito sa ating mga karagatan?

I am a freediver gawain din namin yan ang pangunguha ng Crown of Thorns or COT dito sa cebu para narin makatulong sa mga corals na lalong dumami at gumanda. Pag di kasi naagapan ang COT ay uubusin ang mga corals at dun din sila dumadami. I am proud na volunteer para dito. Great job Atom at rest sa volunteer

I do have so say this was beautifully shot, edited, and documented. Iba talaga pag GMA ang gumawa ng documentary.......The likes of Howie, Kara, Jessica, Atom... and others, malayo ang talino nila compare sa personel ng ibang Networks.....Thank you at may mga matatalinong tao na pareho nyo.

How great it is na mayroon pa rin talagang handang maglaan ng oras para mag-volunteer na tumulong. Pero hindi pwedeng ganon lang eh, kailangan din talaga ng budget for this from the government. We hope na makarating ito sa mga nasa posisyon.

True! Sana man lang ay maipa-tupad din sa atin, tulad sa ibang bansa (tulad sa Japan), na pinakukuha ang mga crown of thorns sa mga mangingisda / maninisid para maiwasang masira ang mga coral reefs, at binabayaran sila ng LGU nila para kunin iyon. Dagdag kita rin iyon para sa mga kababayan natin.

It's official. Atom took the throne from Kara David. His doing heart felt documentaries just like what Kara did when she was still doing them.
Kudos to the volunteers. Our government should do an action regarding this matter. It is alarming knowing that they could caught hundreds crown of thorns. It can also happen in other places in our country if we didn't make any actions to control it. Hope that there's some sectors that will help them sustain the volunteers' needs like their equipment.
Somehow, I like this platform of Atom because it gives an attention and awareness to the LGU’s also the individual along the shore.

back 2008 when I we're still somewhere in Northern Cebu iniiwasan lamg namin yan dahil nga sobrang sakit nyan kahit slight na tinik lang. Di ko alam ganyan pala kadestructive sa mga corals yan. Hopefully people will be aware with this specially yung mga nasa rural areas.

As an Angler, ang Cots ang pinaka kinakatakutan ko sa dagat besides the sea snake or walo walo. Dalawang beses palang ako nakakita ng cots sa buong buhay ko at yung pangalawa ay last Saturday lang. Nakakapanghinayang nga kasi hindi ko nakuha ang dalawang cots kasi ang layo ng shore at ang dala ko lang ay fishing rod. Kakamayin ko sana pero takot ako, akala ko kasi nakamamatay to pag nakatinik. Gusto ko rin talaga etong mawala ang mga cots kasi hindi lang tuyom or sea orchin at sea snake ang babantayan ko pag nag fifishing ako, dumagdag patong cots sa dapat iwasan. At isa rin to sa rason bakit palago akong zero sa fishing 😅😅

This is why Fisheries Extension is needed kasi community aren't fully aware of this things they need someone to explain things to them. I commend them for using the community based approach kasi the people in that particular community are the front liners talaga. I remember yung case study ni sir Alcala sa Sumilon Island nung nag umpisa sila ng fisheries management doon without the participation of the community nagfail sila multiple times. Pero nung nagshift sila ng approach which is community based wherein they involved the community sa fisheries management sa island nila, it became successful at tumaas ang stocks ng isda sakanilang Island.

More collaboration with the LGU and the locals on they can find solutions to address the problems of our coral reef systems. Galing talaga!

We have them in Australia in particular the Great Barrier Reef, Lizard Island and Cairns. Crown of Thorns are destroying our beautiful coral reefs. I hope the Philippine Government assist you guys in managing the problem before it's too late.
