Many thanks OT for another exciting compilation! I love Franco Corelli singing pira, he makes it so exciting, his voice is so beautiful and powerful!❤❤❤❤
Its always hard for me to tell on old recordings, I can say Ive heard the tracks for Pavarotti and Corelli directly from the albums, and without all the clipping Pavarotti sounds much closer to corelli.
Out of these, I think the ideal Manrico would be a hybrid of Del Monaco’s and Corelli’s sheer vocal brilliance and Pertile’s and Bergonzi’s musical/interpretive/stylistic prowess.
No Flaviano Labo? His live rendition in 1974 was great - one of the best, in my opinion. Also, no Giacomo? There's a version of a young Giacomo on TH-cam producing a very Corelli-like squillo-filled performance of Di quella pira!
A melhor gravação completa do Il Trovador é com Del Mônaco, Tebaldi , Savarese. Idem Força do Destino e Otello.

Hello. According to my research; 1- In the past, the rotation speed of the records could not be controlled while recording the records. 2- The frequency value of the note "La", which we now accept as 440 Hz, was different in the past. For this reason, records can be misleading. But people who listen to such records a lot are not affected by this situation.

@@sugarbist LV sounded older here then usual, and so if they where shouting Boo it's because he is older, don't know when it was? Perhaps Bis, if he refused to pay maybe they Booed him for that reason.
As the great Lauri Volpi (the best for me) always said, the high C isn't written; if you have it, you sing it, but transposing down the entire cabaletta is not an option.
@@tomvandongen8075 Yes, Volpi transposed the Pira down a half step late in his career. Corelli transposed the Pira down a half tone in his debut at the Met in 1961 when he was 40 years old. I think the Pira is written with Gs and the high note C was later interpolated. The B- Naturals were also acceptable in place of the high C. Many great and good tenors have sung the Pira with B-naturals.
All but Björling screams the note. It's and have no vibrato on that high note. It's not even a contest. I thought you quy's in here knows quality singing? Jussi Björling by a long mile! The point is not to scream highest and most powerfull, that ain't singing.
Some are fine quality studio recordings here and some others live are in both good and not good sound quality, so the playing field is not completely fair, but it's an interesting post if you crave high C's.
@@oktaygozcu4799 Lauri Volpi debuted Calaf at the Met in 1926. I saw Jerome Lo Monaco in Rigoletto circa 1960 at the Brooklyn Academy of Music. Corelli!!!!!
Corelli, Lauri Volpi and perhaps LoMonaco.
1) Corelli
2) Bonisolli
3) Pavarotti
4) Bergonzi
5) Lauri Volpi
MDM innanzitutto.
Those final top notes demand an effortless yet powerfully toned voice. For me, only Corelli seems to deliver it. Del Monaco was quite impressive too.
Del Monaco transposed it down.

Bonisolli emperor of di quella pira
Franco Corelli - the best
And Lauri-Volpi was 60 then.
Always Jussi!
Better than Corelli there is only Corelli. Listen to the same aria recorded in Parma 1.1.1961, which he ends with a crescendo.
I found Bergonzi's performance impressive
Però per cantare all'armi attende che l'orchestra si fermi per non essere coperto, questo è un errore da rilevare.
