Jimmy Page is a great guitarists and technical for that era of music but he is not the best person to give an example of when talking about saying that particular person being intimidated by someone's guitar skill as an indicator for 'making it'.
What do you mean? I think Page was impressed by Buckley’s craftsmanship in terms of creating guitar music. Great songs. That is what Page did also. I think you are thinking more of technical wizardry on the guitar. Someone like Steve Vai is like that, but I could not name you any great songs he has written. You see where I (and Page) are coming from?
Page said he was surprised Buckley played what he did in standard tuning. Nothing wrong with altered tunings. It's just more challenging to play certain things in standard tuning.
Heard 'The Last Goodbye" around 4am on rage when I was a teenager, the whole album still gives me chills to this day and I'm now 41. It is a profound and epic masterpiece of emotional release into music.... and it shall always be my favourite.
TipOfTheDtoYa. I basically just commented the same thing 👍 He wasnt incredibly amazing but his ability to write and compose music with real soul & heart.. And that voice is pure from deep within, a rare thing nowadays.
Jeff wasn’t “incredibly amazing?” Listen to this and see if it changes your mind. No one else in the history of the world could pull this off as well as him: *Jeff Buckley - The Way Young Lovers Do - Live at Sin-é:* www.dailymotion.com/video/x2ypwzb
MojoPin1983 will do now👍 I appreciate everything Jeff Buckley, and Grace was the first song i heard, it blew me away and still does, nothing comes close to the construction and brilliance within his songs. Though if im honest i dont know who is incredibly amazing as i listen to and appreciate alot of music, so i cant say "this is my favorite" or "they are truly amazing" i just see it for what it is... If ya know what i mean.
I guess it must have been Jennifer Aniston although Pitt must have become a fan quite late on after Buckley had died. My initial thought was that it must have been Juliette Lewis but they were never married either.
I only learned of him within the last few months. Hallelujah cover was my introduction. Now I've been watching a little bit about his bio and old interviews from the early 90s or mid 90s. Sorry but I wasn't exactly around back then. He is very very unique boys for sure. I heard some track with him and Chris Cornell
It is so amazingly tragic that we'll never hear what Jeff could have done. The music he left is just staggering and I'll guess we should be thankful for that. It was interesting to hear Jimmy Page say that when he heard "Grace" that he listened to it constantly as the songs revealed themselves. I know that when I heard "Grace" I couldn't stop listening to it either. You put it on and had to listen to it all the way through. It's great to see these guys "hopefully" turning people on to Jeff who don't know who he is. Cool video, thanks for posting.
Been listening to Jeff for decades and I still haven't heard everything he did because I keep on going back to the Grace album it's just that wonderful.
In 1997 while I was pregnant with my daughter Madeline Lydia-Grace this was the only album I listened to. She grew up. went to college in Iowa, now living now with her dad. The Missippi river runs through the town. I stood there at the river's edge and thought why you Jeff Buckley not only because of your voice and musical intellect and passion but you were only thirty! You deserved to live that photo of the river I took is on my fridge it's both haunting and beautiful like your music!!!
Man I have always thought the exact same thing that Jimmy Page stated. His guitar work was so unusual and eccentric that I too always assumed he played in alternate tunings. According to Jimmy Page he did not. That really surprises me. Buckley: what just a total original.
He only used alternate tunings for a few songs, such as: Last Goodbye, What Will You Say, Vancouver, Kanga Roo + some songs from Live at Sin-e. He used Drop D for a few songs as well: Grace, Mojo Pin, I Woke Up In A Strange Place, Haven’t You Heard, The Sky Is A Landfill.
Yeah every decent guitarist throws the E to D once in a while. That was pretty cool to hear that come from Page. Makes me feel up to par with Jimmy Page's guitar mentality. HAHA just kidding, You got a pretty awesome channel here dude. I always knew Buckley loved Zep but I never knew they dug him too. Pretty HUGE compliment to Buckleys music. I wonder if they ever jammed with his dad.
Liam Naughton I. A huge fan for years and I’m 65. The first time I heard was like what...heaven sent this angel.🙏🙏🙏🙏 im a huge fan of his dad too . Tim was amazing. Enjoy🎸🎸🎸🎸
His dad Tim Buckley is excellent too! Both have the same style. Both excellent one of a kind voices! Check out his dad song A song for Siren. The you tube video of him singing it on The Monkeys tv show is excellent! You can see where he got his talent from!
Yep. I was in my early fifties when I heard of him. What a special album he created, one of those rare pieces that leaves a lasting impact on how you view the world.
I am once again saddened that i had not discovered him till now. What a loss such a talent. Beautiful songs. May we fill our spirit with such beautiful emotional music.
If the Wolf River Harbor hadn’t of taken him, (“stay with me under these waves tonight, be free for once in your life, tonight” …. shiver runs down my spine), he would have single handedly altered the music scene. His talents were immaculate, he was worth a thousand current musicians. A million. He was a mystery and his music haunts me and it will forever I guess.
And he accomplished all these with one album that consisted of 7 original songs and 3 cover versions. How good you have to be to be the most influential musician of a generation with 7 original songs? Only Jeff
i mean he has more than just 7. you’ve got all of my sweetheart the drunk. and he also played originals like “i woke up in a strange place” and “what will you say” live
@hellovanite You wouldn’t have happened to have taped his Max TV interview with Zane Lowe, or any other television appearances, such as his interview with Dylan Taite, would you?
Came across Jeff Buckley whilst on a hunt for more good music... I first heard Grace, which blew me away, i then read about him... Knowing his story created even more appreciation for this guy, along with sadness for what music could have been with Buckley here today. One of the most underrated artists of all time, and only now is his name more known. RIP - Music without him is not the same.
I‘m always surprised why so many people don‘t know him, he was one of the best singers that ever existed. That’s a fact. But still he is not a household name, which I think is so strange, I don‘t get it
Brad and Jimmy put it in the right words, thats exactly what I felt when I heard the album for the first time.I came into the album because I heard Heather Nova talked about Jeff Buckley and I went on from there. Then I was so shocked when I heard that he died in such a tragic kind of way.Seems to me he came into this world to leave this brilliant and mystical album and then he had to go,for some reasons that god only knows. It is so sad.Rest ln Peace Jeff🎙🎸🕯♾
A true fact that came from a very close friend of mine who was on tour with PLANT AND PAGE in 1996 was that they used to play the album GRACE. before going on stage. That's some compliment
I found & know of Jeff. Buckley through listening to the song hallelujah 0n the beginning of 2021 & became instantly obsessed with him & became really saddened about his death
Nice video mate, a bit choppy, but its nice to see such a big fan. I saw your comment about Layne and Jeff doing a Led Zep cover on another video of Jeff and it made my day. Thanks Stranger.
I learned about Jeff Buckley on an interview with Chris Cornell where he praised his skills. naturally, i had to listen to his work on youtube and was stunned how good he was.. but then, if Cornell liked him, it shouldn't have been much of a surprise.
SuperNavatar, Grace might take several plays before it clicks. It is very unconventional. The more you listen, the more it will grow on you. Just make sure to do so with no distractions. Lie on your bed, put on some headphones and close your eyes. That is the best way to experience this album. It requires one’s full attention to appreciate all of its nuances and textures.
@@rawdjango4661 EuphoriaMorning is great but even Cornell would tell you he was unhappy with the released version. Ive spoken about this with Alain Johannes. He sent me the original masters for euphoria morning and they're so much darker than the released versions. Cornell also wanted to call it Euphoria Mourning, but this didnt pass the execs. From memory the record company, unbelievably, lost the original masters and released a different finished product. But, aside from that, the albums you named, along with Grace, are certainly the best thing to come from the nineties.
Wow! I do have something in common with Brad. I played this constantly back when it came out. Come to think about it I got pretty hooked on his dad's "Happy Sad" album too. I was so sad to hear of his passing. No telling what Jeff would have produced.
The first time Jeff Buckley got my attention was when I heard him sang Allelujah😭 then I learned about his passing, so sad, but he left us with beautiful music that touches my innermost being!!! Praying for you Jeff Buckley, rest in eternal peace🌺
He loved Zeppelin, he loved Jimmy Page. That's another reasons among many to know that Jeff Buckley's career could maybe have been as great as their's.
I miss him, and I like so many others who found their way to his music, felt he was singing my life. I was waiting on his new album, while grocery shopping, and saw on the magazine stand that he had passed. It was a very sad event in my life. R. I. P. Jeff. You have helped me through some tough times, and still do.
Not going to get into a ridiculous debate about Tim vs. Jeff. Both had amazing 4 octave ranges and a desire to explore something different. Virtually every album Tim made is different from the previous one. Not surprisingly Jeff wished to escape the shadow of his father. I have a feeling though that his father would have understood. BTW, I very much liked "Dream Brother" the book that parallels their lives.
I just getting into Tim's music. I bought 3 of his old albums this week. Really love Greetings for L.A., Goodbye Hello, and Happy Sad. All great albums!
I lived at 6711 Yucca in 88 , 2 blocks from Jeff , while attending MIT . We are 210 days apart in age , part greek , California natives, and i live in Tennessee, where he died. Ha . Jeff played with John Humphreys, mit instructor, they tracked his stuff, with Tool drummer, and jeff played guitar, and reluctantly sang a little back up vocals. 🤘
Unfortunately, John Humphreys refuses to share his footage of Jeff and Danny from their days in The Wild Blue Yonder. I’ve tried to convince him to do so, a few times, but he keeps making up excuses about how Jeff wouldn’t have wanted anyone to see it. Personally, I think John has other reasons for not releasing it.
@@MojoPin1983 weird . First off , i don't even remember a John Humphreys, and i knew who most faculty was , from norman brown to keith wyatt to paul gilbert , scott henderson , jeff berlin , etc , etc , . Secondly, why wouldn't he want to share this , either from a standpoint, of sharing rare jeff , OR , how about showing off , YOUR project, YOUR music, for the world to hear ? Sounds like he lost the tapes , is lying , or just a plain weirdo . A guy i know i Montreal, went there same time as Jeff, Federico Penserini. Guitar player. I knew him in 2003 in Montreal. Went over to his place , he played me a cassette of something bootleg from GIT . I moved into 6711 Yucca in August of 88 , i believe Jeff left Hollywood or at least school, in like April of 88 . Paul Gilbert was my next door neighbor, i would trade Paul and every orher musician ive met , for 10 min with Jeff
@@MojoPin1983 I think Jeff would cringe at all of the live stuff being released. He was such a perfectionist he wasn't even happy with the small amount of live material that was put out when he was alive. Though as a fan I'm not complaining, his discography is so small the live stuff really adds a lot to his legacy because the performances would vary so much from show to show. And I personally feel (even with all the imperfections) that for the most part he was better live than in the studio.
We have a show called Rage. Starts at midnight goes till early morning on a saturday. Its 100%music videos and the like. I came home late and drunk as was typical after a friday session. The concert just started and i was fixated from start to finish. Instant fan. For ever miss what could have been and for ever grateful for what was.
"There's the moon asking to stay Long enough for the clouds to fly me away Well it's my time coming, i'm not afraid to die My fading voice sings of love, But she cries to the clicking of time Of time." Grace. RIP Jeff Buckley
True but I think it's more how extensive his harmonic understanding was that he used unusual (for guitar) voicings and intervals much like a jazz player or pianist so the effect is transcendent
Absolutely obvious to anybody who loved his music but dammit what a tragedy what a real loss that So many never got to really know the genius and I don’t use that word lightly of Jeff Buckley when he played live he and his band interacted intuitively and that’s the best way to play in my opinion it was definitely a life that should not have been cut short
0:47 Quite literally since his father. It's an astounding testament about innate talent if you consider they didn't even have an influence on each other beyond their genes
So... people have been saying negative things about jimmy page complimenting Jeff Buckley and that Jimmy page compliment is not something to be impressed with. I slightly disagree. Jimmy page has influenced millions of guitarists from all ages. Out of all those millions of guitarist he sets his eyes on Jeff Buckley, and sees the greatness in him. It’s like impressing your teacher at middle/high school. If your teacher sees you as a very capable student, wouldn’t others also be impressed of your capabilities? Just think about it for a sec.
I’ll feel forever grateful to the boy I had a fling with who worked at Wild Oats in Portland OR who introduced me to Jeff Buckley. I can’t remember his name but I sure remember Jeff Buckley ✨💛✨

@@brianmannion7097 he's a fantastic example.
@@brianmannion7097 Ummm, yeah.... he's damn well one of the very best actually.
Heard 'The Last Goodbye" around 4am on rage when I was a teenager, the whole album still gives me chills to this day and I'm now 41. It is a profound and epic masterpiece of emotional release into music.... and it shall always be my favourite.
And the last song he ever sung was Led Zeplin’s “Whole Lotta Love”.
"My fading voice sings of love...."
When Jimmy Page calls your talent "Wizard" you know it's good stuff.
I love how even Brad Pitts wife wishes she had Buckley
HAhhaah that's so cool she was a fan too
I would have rather had Brad!! Lol..I have no idea who Buckley is.
jennifer aniston was the wife!
@@perfektstr4ng3rThat’s my favorite part about that story. 😂
Man, I wish he was still around. He might have changed the music scene of today by himself.
TipOfTheDtoYa. I basically just commented the same thing 👍
He wasnt incredibly amazing but his ability to write and compose music with real soul & heart.. And that voice is pure from deep within, a rare thing nowadays.
Jeff wasn’t “incredibly amazing?” Listen to this and see if it changes your mind. No one else in the history of the world could pull this off as well as him:
*Jeff Buckley - The Way Young Lovers Do - Live at Sin-é:*

MojoPin1983 will do now👍
I appreciate everything Jeff Buckley, and Grace was the first song i heard, it blew me away and still does, nothing comes close to the construction and brilliance within his songs. Though if im honest i dont know who is incredibly amazing as i listen to and appreciate alot of music, so i cant say "this is my favorite" or "they are truly amazing" i just see it for what it is... If ya know what i mean.
I actually believe that could have totally been the case....
Pop culture really suffered with the death of Cobain and Buckley :/
Brad Pitt said something incredibly incisive .." He's Plant and Paige in one" .. It sums Jeff up completely.
It's Page you simp.
So jennifer aniston put brad on to jeff Buckley... its life changing
I think it was prolly Gweneth Paltrow at this time.
jam§daz He was never married to Paltrow.
I guess it must have been Jennifer Aniston although Pitt must have become a fan quite late on after Buckley had died. My initial thought was that it must have been Juliette Lewis but they were never married either.
I think it was Angelina Jolie. I remember her talking about him.
He says..:Gwen, where have I been?" This is long before Jennifer.
I was very lucky to have seen Jeff Buckley play at Glastonbury and Chicago back in 1995!!
What a great talent and a terrible loss😢😢😢
You're so lucky
@@nihilisticbarbie
I really think so too, there will never be another Jeff Buckley
Thanks😪
Be sure to check out Sketches for Sweetheart the Drunk, Live at Sin-é (Legacy Edition), and Mystery White Boy.
MojoPin1983 Oh don't get me wrong I know all about his work I just can't help myself.
Jeff Buckley is my all time favorite. Lover you should have come over moves me every time I listen to it.
The playing Kashmir at that speed is beyond brilliant!! No wonder Jimmy loved him.
Brad Pitt exactly pinpointed what is it that draws us (or at least me) to Jeff.
Lilac wine and Morning theft are stellar to me. On my top 50 songs ever, for sure.
I'm 60 years of age, have loved music all my life and have never heard of Jeff Buckley until this.
Well, you are in for a treat. His father, *Tim* Buckley, was also an incredible singer-songwriter.
Welcome to the party. Go and enjoy the album now, why not.
I still can’t listen to this album without crying…his music is truly beautiful and his death is still heartbreaking ❤
I am once again saddened that i had not discovered him till now. What a loss such a talent. Beautiful songs. May we fill our spirit with such beautiful emotional music.
N N its better late than never
I didn't know my music until I heard Grace.
Yep, it definitely is a benchmark in recorded music.
Haunting, yes, strangely haunting, and sad, and beautiful. A most accurate way of portraying the cast out soul and it's cry to be let back in.
Sissi, man......so sad because the majority of souls who go through that are invisible. Trapped behind glass like Ozma from the film Return to Oz.
@yan Merritt I’ve always thought, too, that he would have singled-handedly transformed and dominated the music scene, had he lived longer.
When Pitt said, "What do I know?", it is a physical manifestation of the divine expressed in its highest human form.
Saw Jeff in Feb 1996 in Auckland and have been in awe ever since
@hellovanite You wouldn’t have happened to have taped his Max TV interview with Zane Lowe, or any other television appearances, such as his interview with Dylan Taite, would you?
When Brad says "there's an undercurrent to his music". 😯
Look for God's and Monsters
I‘m always surprised why so many people don‘t know him, he was one of the best singers that ever existed. That’s a fact. But still he is not a household name, which I think is so strange, I don‘t get it
That moment when Brad Pitt said theres an "undercurrent" to jeff buckley
John Kalkirtz I just commented the same thing. Yikes 😕
"Had him, hehe, she wishes..."
I heard Grace when it came out. It was 94, I was in love, the girl put on Halleluja, I completely forgot about her,was mesmerized by the music.....

Thanks. I had to cut some parts out, due to copyright, hence the choppiness.
You’re welcome for the video. Cheers.
I learned about Jeff Buckley on an interview with Chris Cornell where he praised his skills. naturally, i had to listen to his work on youtube and was stunned how good he was.. but then, if Cornell liked him, it shouldn't have been much of a surprise.
the best album of the nineties
Pffft get outta here...
ONE of the best. Top 3 for sure. It's not like someone creates a whole genre.
Along superinknown and euphoria morning
@@rawdjango4661 EuphoriaMorning is great but even Cornell would tell you he was unhappy with the released version. Ive spoken about this with Alain Johannes. He sent me the original masters for euphoria morning and they're so much darker than the released versions. Cornell also wanted to call it Euphoria Mourning, but this didnt pass the execs. From memory the record company, unbelievably, lost the original masters and released a different finished product. But, aside from that, the albums you named, along with Grace, are certainly the best thing to come from the nineties.
The sped up Robert Plant voice at the end is hilarious. 4:40
Wow! I do have something in common with Brad. I played this constantly back when it came out. Come to think about it I got pretty hooked on his dad's "Happy Sad" album too. I was so sad to hear of his passing. No telling what Jeff would have produced.
Just got that album, it is good, I also like Hello Goodbye, and Greeting from L.A. That is my favorite. Need to get Star sailor.
That sped up impression of Kashmir was freakin genius 😂
Brad Pitt talking about Jeff that's a dream
Jimmy Page talking Jeff Buckley is even better!
No, it's an utterly pointless waste of time. Jimmy Page talking about Buckley has value...THAT"S a dream. Brad Pitt is nothing more than a hologram.

Our angel on Earth. I’m so grateful we had him.
His dad, Tim Buckley was also amazing and also died young.
Just got three of Tim's albums this week! Wow!
Yes, definitely, at times. Unfortunately, Jeff's dad wasn't much of a father.
@@MojoPin1983 i just posted Grace , my sorry attempt at winging it . I would be happy just playing rhythm guitar for jeff , or kazoo , or cowbell
When you have both Robert Plant and Jimmy Page waxing lyrically about you.....you've gotta be at least fairly good, right?

"There's the moon asking to stay
Long enough for the clouds to fly me away
Well it's my time coming, i'm not afraid to die
My fading voice sings of love,
But she cries to the clicking of time
Of time."
Grace.
RIP Jeff Buckley
He did use open tunings as well as standard. For instance, Last Goodbye is in open G and Vancouver is in open D
True but I think it's more how extensive his harmonic understanding was that he used unusual (for guitar) voicings and intervals much like a jazz player or pianist so the effect is transcendent
@@justingarcia7722 that's true, he does use some quite jazzy chords on some songs, and interesting harmony on most songs
Absolutely obvious to anybody who loved his music but dammit what a tragedy what a real loss that
So many never got to really know the genius and I don’t use that word lightly of Jeff Buckley when he played live he and his band interacted intuitively and that’s the best way to play in my opinion it was definitely a life that should not have been cut short
