Chapstick or tape around your nails and paint away! Then you can remove the tape or wait until it's dry and wipe off the chapstick and your cuticles will be clean!
You can use lotion around your cuticles. When your finished painting your nails just wipe around your nail where the lotion is, and whatever is on the lotion comes right off. Hope this helps.

I love this new nail art !!! Thank you. I know you mentioned gel but I want to make sure (if possible) I can do a layer of gel as a finishing touch then cure it under UV or LED light ?!?
I saw a tutorial where you should put the shards right onto the colored polish when it is just almost dry but still slightly tacky to the touch. This works great! I have found that the wetter the surface you place the shards on, the more easily they curl up. Also, I tried using nail foil glue. Works great for holding the shards on, but the overall look is really diminished. Give the almost dry technique a whirl. Personally I want my manicures to last a week and be no fuss, no muss (which is why I use Seche Ultra V top coat) it requires a light but it isn't gel polish. Good luck. Rose
