All I'm gonna say is: Helluva has the same.thing as Hazbin tonally, its why Brandon and Vivzie's tones mesh so well. They are a bit irreverant on the surface but theyre filled with heart. Even since Episode 2 the show makes it clear its about character development and found family, its great.
I will say, this series vastly improves in writing and art from the pilot, but like you said with Hazbin Hotel, it's the kind of thing that won't win anyone over who isn't already into it. 22:20 I just noticed that they even put such a small little detail of Mayberry’s eyes following the arrow as it moves. Edit: he called it out immediately after I commented, lol.
A couple of little background details from someone who's watched all the episodes (too?) many times. When they are about to go to Earth, when Blitzø eats the dog biscuit, look at the billboard in the background for a nice little visual gag. In the murder family house, you can see hints of their true nature before the big reveal looking in the background -- The floor lamp is a human spine. Bonus points, characters have leitmotif musical themes that are fun. ❤
how many of the characters have their own themes? the only ones i can think of off the top of my head are (spacing this out for s1ep5 spoiler): blitzø, stolas, striker and fizzarolli
Skyen don’t look below there will be spoilers but I have to talk about this the writing in this show is so insane because I never realized that they foreshadowed moxie being part of a mob family on EPISODE ONE before rewatching the show with me mom. THE FORESHADOWING AND CALLBACKS ARE SO INSANE IVE NEVER NOTICED THEM
I'm really excited for you to see the Hazbin mentorship influence creep in, because Helluva starts very episodic, and makes a pretty sharp turn towards character driven work. But my main thing about this show is that, like many fan-animated works online, it gets much better as it goes on because the team kind of figures out what the show is part-way into its production. And I'm really excited for you to watch episode 2.
6:14 I've seen some other commenters thinking it's _The Grim Adventures of Billy & Mandy_ which wouldn't surprise me given that Martha's Husband in this episode a guy in a Mascot Suit in the next episode ("Loo Loo Land") are both voiced by him (a connection Vivienne made having volunteered on his pitch for _Dead Meat_ before it fell through), as well as a couple bit parts in the Hazbin Hotel pilot as I believe I mentioned in that video. _TGAoB&M_ and _PPG_ are definitely what I think of with the facial styles of the kids, though.
As a note stolas is the only one that gets bleeped and only while he is talking intentionally. Which personally i think means HE is personally bleeping his fowl bird talk.
Speaking for myself, I enjoy your reactions, I imagine if anyone didn't they wouldn't be here. The length isn't an issue imo. I wouldn't have known to appreciate the shot of the eyeball if you hadn't gushed over it. I do hope you read the background billboard during editing. Like Hazbin, Helluva has a lot of detail and jok3s in the backgrounds at times, some are even plot relevant. Such as the family being murder Cannibals is hinted out before the true reveal. The lamp in the corner has a stiched skin shade, Spine pole and pelvic base. Behind the Dad at dinner is a mounted kids head. It seems the wife lures in men for them to murder. They do put a lot into these shows.

I always knew Hazbin was supposed to be the more story focused show, Helluva Boss was just the appetizer for that. Helluva is more if Brandon Rogers animated his skits, but somewhere along the way, it shifted from that original concept to a more drama angsty show about characters struggling with their lives and their relationships. 03:00 Kinda like that except that they do learn from episode to episode, not gonna go into detail as per your request, but the characters do change and learn from episode to episode.
20:07 Yup, after the pilot they got a new voice for Millie. Likely to give her a more distinct southern voice, as you noticed in the pilot that she was southern only in the last bit of it. As someone who watched the pilot day 1 and then nearly a year later came to this new voice, it took a bit to get adjusted. Hopefully you'll adjust with little issue.
I ended up liking helluva boss more than Hazbin. The scope and scale are smaller but the characters struggles feel more real and relatable. And its funny!
I was really excited for this! I binged through the first season a while ago, and I was so impressed by the animation and directon of this little show- even more than the first season of hazbin which I thought was already pretty fantastic. this show (so far as I've watched) also didn't have the same problem of a condensed plot as hazbin because of its smaller focus. makes for some standout episodic episodes.
Its honestly gets so much better as the shows goes on Like u can see the animators, writers and Viv herself just get better and more confident in what they are doing each new episode.
5:55 - you might be thinking of Kids Next Door, that the general vibe every else says they get from it, and I have to agree as someone who WATCHED KND growing up

@@xiongrey19 Expect it isn't? It doesn't reveal anything specific what so ever. Just that a sparkle dog type character will show up.
@@xiongrey19correct me if I mess something up but isnt this exactly the kind of spoiler he wants to see? The ones that tease without revealing too much?
I'm so glad you enjoyed this episode after the weak pilot! 8) It'll be fun to hear you analyze some of the more "revealing" episodes later on, there is some surprising depths to these weirdos and how they feel about each other. Hell, we get into it the next episode even...
can't wait to see your reaction to ep 7 animation
Exactly is so fucking good
Oh, he's in for a real treat with that one. Best episode easily.
AND THE MUSIC!!!
Aw shucks, well now I am re-watching the series in advance of your analysis, and appreciating them a lot more in retrospect. These are high points in my day, thank you for the video!
32:09
Let's say, it is much more interesting than just that. You will like it.
03:00 Kinda like that except that they do learn from episode to episode, not gonna go into detail as per your request, but the characters do change and learn from episode to episode.
Oh boy I can't wait until he gets to THAT part from THAT episode
Betting right now that the later episodes are gonna go up to two hours, at least.
This show is a distinctive and disturbing delight. 😂 Mid season is going to be good for you lol
Hey dude if people wanna watch the show the can go do that. I really appreciate that you are actually reacting and not just going 'damn that's crazy'
It’s raining tacos! My childhood
Its honestly gets so much better as the shows goes on
Like u can see the animators, writers and Viv herself just get better and more confident in what they are doing each new episode.
Parry grip is amazing!!! Like space unicorn and neon pegasus are amazing to this day :D
With how often you go back to check out details I wonder if you noticed things before the family’s evil reveal. Like the spine as a lamp, etc
38:08 i never noticed the eye bounces off the camera
I have a perry gripp song as my ring tone to this day! Space Unicorn 😂
Im so excited to see you react as things keep going because this show really only gets better as it goes with some of the coolest animation I've seen.
I agree with the other comment, this is just the beginning>:D
Watching your reviews makes me appreciate this series all the more with how well you recognize technical aspects of animation and storytelling
5:55 - you might be thinking of Kids Next Door, that the general vibe every else says they get from it, and I have to agree as someone who WATCHED KND growing up
This is the first canonical episode of the series, the Helluva Boss pilot is not canon, so this is where the story begins
I love your review at the end
This is apparently how I'm deciding to watch Helluva Boss I guess, giving the views directly to Skyen
I cannot WAIT for episode 6...
I loved your commentary on this. It's always fun seeing you analyze the particularly interesting animation shots.
She enforced dunce hats and homework... she was a SNAP just waiting to happen. Hahahaha she went to Hell for it.
