I liked the X bit too add some more welding power,I actually pushed the donor part inside the chassis which was good as I was able to weld a nice solid fill and dress back with a combination of Flexovit grinder discs to flap wheels and having a good die grinder is essential to! Good video thanks 🙏🏼
Nice work Craig 👍👏. I need to attempt some welding, which welder do you recommend and which grinder discs do you use to grind the welds back? Thanks mate 🙌
Thanks!! There's a mass of welders to choose from personally I've never had a problem with clarke there middle of the range so not the cheapest but spares are easily available and there well built. For grinding I always use flap discs rather than stone the once I'm using are just no brand off ebay at around £1.20 I got the during lockdown one disc did the job so can't complain. 🙂👍
Tidy job Craig!! I cut the crossmember off a 110 yesterday, wasn’t rotten but damaged. I was working on a bare chassis and it still took some doing, fiddly job to get off when not replacing with the extension type. 👍
@@retro.restorations having a pack of shit 1mm cutting discs didn’t help, I was watching them disappear. Won’t buy any more of them. Cheap ones off eBay were the best.
@@retro.restorations the expensive shit ones I bought were ABRACS… the really good but cheap eBay ones are COBRA, getting some more of them, the COBRA flap discs are just as good. 👍
I would be curious to know how you welded the upper plates of the chassis, because for my part the floor of the pickup bothers me enormously ... if you can enlighten me thank you very much
Grand job that young man. Wiring is the worst bit on that job. Top stuff young man!

Thanks 👍 I wanted it to be strong enough to tow safely the cross adds alot of extra strength and will hopefully last many years. 🙂👍

Cutting discs vary massively the ones I've got now are OK I'll let you know what brand they. 🙂👍

Hi, my welding torch is just small enough to fit in holding it at an angle I had to get at it from both sides of the chassis rail. 🙂👍
Nice work. Really like the cross idea. Can I ask how you get at the top of the chassis rail ? The mig torch is a bit bulky....do you lift the tub?
Thanks!! My mig just fits in enough without lifting the tub I have to do half from one side and then go inside but it works. 🙂👍
Get an MB15 euro torch IF your welder has a euro type interchangeable connection? The MB15 is the slimmest Mig torch you can get.
I'll give them a look thanks. 🙂👍
Did the owner as for a cost effective repair?.
It's my own landy! The original crossmember was beyond repair. 🙂👍
